Chances are yes you can keep them both updated with the same music. As long as both are on the same format (Mac or PC) and the music in the library is the same, you should be able to just update them. However if it tells you the iPod is used by a different library hit the option that allows you to ignore that message and you should be able to go from there.

I also met this issue a few days ago and I finally find out how to transfer music from iPod to computer:
1. Plug your iPod in and wait for the computer to recognize it.
2. Open up 'My Computer' and under 'Devices With Removable Storage', double click and open apple iPod.
3. Click on 'Tools' at the top of the window and drag down to 'Folder Options'.
4. Under the 'View' tab, find the subfolder called 'Hidden files and folders'.
5. Select the option 'Show hidden files and folders'.
6. Click 'OK'.

Better yet, connect the iPod to your computer and restore it to factory settings, and then set it up as a new iPod. Give it to your grandson and then download and install iTunes on a computer that he has access to. When you install iTunes you can set him up with his own Apple ID, and you can set it up without using a credit card...

I'm afraid you can'te amalgamate two iCloud accounts; the nearest you can get is to export the datea from one and import it into the other.
Your iPad is probably telling you that it doesn't have enough storage. Buying iCloud storage won't have any effect on your iPad. You can't increase an iPad's storage, you would have to delete something.

I, currently have the first generation iPod and my brother was wanting to buy the iPod with video. I was wondering if have two iPods on one computer is possible. I have before tried to do this and ran into many problems with the older iPods software.

Yes, it is certainly possible. I use 3 on my PC without any problems. You will need the latest versions of iTunes and iPod software updater.
Install iTunes followed by the iPod software updater, then run the updater, connect the new iPod and choose to restore. If successful make sure you choose a name for the new iPod different from the old. Then take a look at this: Using Multiple iPods with one computer

This is to avoid piracy. What could happen is, people could buy music, and give it away for free online. Usually it is then you buy a complete album off iTunes that it will only be available on one device. It is tied to that account, and the device must be registered to that account to listen to it.

I started to do that then it said that this will become their apple I.D or similar and then I thought that will disconnect them from the same iTunes? Just to summarise what's in the link above which is a little out of date:
Method one is to have individual Mac or Windows user accounts which by definition would give you completely separate iTunes Music folders and libraries.
Method two is to set your preferences so that any or all of iPods get updated with only certain playlists within one library:
Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Mac
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for each iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used by the other iPod. Why did you start a new account?
Copy everything from your backup copy of your computer to your new hard drive.
Ipod will sync to one itunes library at a time. Syncing to another will erase the current content from the ipod.

The music sync is one way - computer to ipod. The only exception is ituens purchases. The ipod is not a backup device.
Copy everything from the old computer or your backup copy of your old computer, to the new one.

Try to tag the self help audio in iTunes as an Audiobook instead. Then sync it as an audiobook.
Audiobooks in the iPod player can remember last position so you don't have to start over.
