I have two Thunderbolt Displays connected to my MacBook Pro, can I also use the built in MacScreen as a 3rd screen?

Thunderbolt Displays are daisy chained

It depends on what MacBook Pro and video card you have. What I have seen is this:
MacBook Pro with Retina display can drive four screens simultaneously
New MacBooks can manage many, many monitors

I have the G Drive 1 TB (GEN4 1TB) external drive purchased in 2010. I need to connect to my new MacBook Pro. I'm using the external drive for media storage of my video editing projects. Will a 800fw to thunderbolt adapter cable work? I understand that using a USB port connection is not fast enough for video editing. I read somewhere the G Drives don't connect well to MacBook Pro.

I doubt this can be relocated or moved so you might want to just repost in the macbook pro area.

Can you afford a new Thunderbolt case and cable? any case with FW800 is going to be slow 72MB/sec and less, and any new 1TB drive is capable of 75MB/s minimum up to 125MB/sec.
Thunderbolt storage can of course when setup properly reach 100's of MB higher using multiple drives.
Use what you have for a system backup or for secondary backup storage.
you might be able to take the drive - most cases allow you to open and swap drives - and use this:

I have upgraded ML but when the MBP tries to restart with the upgrade the MBP does not restart so I susapect the ML upgrade is not complete ? When you refer to 10.8.5 supplemental is this a separate upgrade ? When I connect the Thunderbolt to the MBP the Thunderbolt charges my MBP & I can play music from iTunes via the Thunderbolt. It is only the display that is not working on the Thunderbolt

  • I have two problems with my 2012 13" MacBook Pro. 1. Gray screen shows at startup  2. Randomly disconnects from network. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have two problems with my 2012 13” MacBook Pro.
    Gray screen shows at startup
    Randomly disconnects from network.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

First, open Terminal in your Utilities folder and paste this into the prompt line:
    sudo update_dyld_shared_cache
Press RETURN. You will be prompted to enter your admin password which will not be echoed to the screen. Press RETURN again.
Next, boot the computer into Safe Mode.
    Next, do the following:
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

I have been editing a document on my MacBook Pro and iPad, which has the newer versions of Pages. Now, I cannot open on My MacBook. It says I need a newer version of OS. However, I'm not showing a newer version being availabe!!! Can anyone help???

That is Pages for iPad v2.0, which Pages '09 v4.3 can't read.
You need to either stick with the older version of Pages on the iPad or get Pages 5 for the Mac which is only available if you are running OSX 10.9 Mavericks.
Unfortunately that is not the end of your woes because Apple has made iCloud convert the files to Pages 5 now, and Pages 5 has over 90 features deleted on top of doing a shocking job of converting older Pages files.

  • How do I set up two separate iTunes accounts on one MacBook Pro in order to manage the wife's iPhone and my iPhone? Can this be done?

How do I set up two separate iTunes accounts on one MacBook Pro in order to manage the wife's iPhone and my iPhone (with separate info on each of course) ? Can this be done? A little step by step would be greatly appreciated; just short step by step though, I can follow fairly well.
    Kindest Regards,
    Phil T.

You would each need to use your own user account on the Mac, you can do this at system preferences > users & groups.

You need to restart the iMac and hold down the Command and R keys immediately.
You will then have the utilities drop down and you choose Terminal
    When Terminal opens, type exactly:
    resetpassword
    and press Return.
When the Reset Password window opens, select the user for which you want to change the password.
Enter the new password twice, and then click Save.
    Accept the next dialog window,
    And then Apply
When finished click the apple at the left side of the menu bar, and the Restart.

    Hello Jane Benstock,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities
It sounds like the next best step to take would be to reset the iPod Shuffle.
Check out this article named Resetting iPod shuffle found here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1655.

  • If I daisy chain two Thunderbolt Displays to a 2011 iMac 27" can I connect a Wacom Cintiq HD to the other Thunderbolt port?

In one Thunderbolt port are the two Thunderbolt displays, in another Thunderbolt port is the Cintiq HD. Would this work on an iMac 27".

Looks like 2 external displays are the max, even for the 2-port (TB) iMac.  So if the Cintiq shows up in ASP and is considered by the computer as a display, then NO, you won't be able to use the Wacom Cintiq in 'addition' to (2) TB displays.

  • The thunderbolt display does not charge macbook pro,

there is a magnetic adapter for the power cord...do I need to find a new cord for the display or is there a problem with the mac book pro?

The Thunderbolt Display has two cables to connect to the MacBook Pro.
The first is the Thunderbolt cable, identified by the lightening bolt on the connection.  This carries data to the display for either passing through to other devices connected to the display (in this way, the display unit also acts as a hub for other devices (USB, Thunderbolt or maybe FireWire), or to the display unit to put on the screen.  This cable does NOT charge the MacBook
The second is the power cable.  The current version of the display (as of April 2013) contains the power cable to connect to the older type of MagSafe connections on the MacBook, and an adaptor to connect to the newer MacBook's (MacBook Air and MacBook Pro Retina).  You have to (of course) use the the adaptor or not depending on how old the MacBook is.  It is an akward thing, but you have to use the adaptor for the newer Macs and not for the older Macs (sounds backwards, but that is the way it is).
The older versions of the display (mid 2012) do not come with the adaptor and you have to buy one if you have a newer Mac.  Or you can continue to use the power brick that came with the Mac.
Soon, (hopefully - but not soon enough IMHO) Apple will release a new version of the display which will (in addition to being thinner, lighter, use less power, etc.) will contain a power cord that will fit right into the newer Macs and you will need an adaptor if you have an older Mac.
Sounds kind of confusing, but if the power cable from the Thunderbolt does not fit your Mac, you have to use an adaptor.

  • I have connected my MacBook Pro to my television using the correct cables, but now I cannot hear sound, only through my MacBook. How do I get the sound through my television?

My MacBook Pro is up to date on updates and it's a Westinghouse television with a rocket fish hdmi connecting cord.

What MacBook Pro have you got? Not all MacBooks Pro can transfer audio through Mini DisplayPort, Thunderbolt or HDMI > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4241
If you have connected the TV to your Mac through Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt and your computer doesn't support audio over that port, you have to connect external speakers

  • Thunderbolt Display connected to a MacBook with retina will the display be retina as well?

Ditching my windows desktop and laptop.  Want to use a MacBook Pro w / retina for portability and a Thunderbolt Display.  Question, will the display be a retina view?

Thanks for the quick reply.  It made me dive deeper into resolutions and pixels.  Little did I know that distance from the screen had so much to do with the concept of retina imagining or that none of the retina displays are 100%.  Now I'm going for battery life since the with and without retina are so close in percentages.

  • I currently have 2 external displays connected to my macbook.  how do i tell imovie which display i want to designate as the secondary display?

    any help would be appreciated

Well, you cannot use the 3G USB modem plugged directly into the Express. However, you can configure your MacBook Pro to do 'Internet sharing' (SysPrefs>Sharing) over the Ethernet port, and then connect your Express into the Ethernet port. Alternatively, you could always get your MacBook to 'create a wireless network'.
new house, waiting for DSL to be installed, 2-3 month wait.
You could always look for open WiFi networks to *cough*borrow*cough* .
