I have uninstalled iTunes from an XP laptop and I now get the iTunesHelper Error2 screen (Apple Application Support was not found).

Hi All,
I have uninstalled iTunes from an IBM ThinkPad X40 running XP and I now get the iTunesHelper Error2 screen (Apple Application Support was not found). I do not want to re-install iTunes as I am now a mac user. However I want to get rid of the message from the XP machine as it is irritating and I want to use it standalone for something else.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Southcote

  • Help!! ive tried to download itunes to my new laptop and it keeps coming up with error 2 - apple aplication support was not found ?? has anyone come across this that can help me??

    Help pleasE?

Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you? If so, does iTunes launch properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

I am trying to install itunes on my pc again but keep getting an error that says'apple application support was not found. try reinstalling itunes.' error 2.
We have had itunes on this pc for 2 years and recently it wouldn't open and another error message kept popping up saying it couldn't open because MSVCR80.dll was missing. When I look at my control panel the only program that shows is "I Tunes".  No other supporting programs are showing up in the control panel nor the Common Files nor in the Program Files (x86).
That's an extreme case of this.
We'll try doing standalone installations of all the supporting programs.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
Start with the section Install missing components which should address your particular error. Otherwise the steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you've already tried a complete uninstall and reinstall try opening iTunes in safe mode (hold down CTRL+SHIFT) as you start iTunes, then going to Edit > Preferences > Store and turning off Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases. You may find iTunes will now start normally.
