I have updated my numbers app on my desktop, but now I can't open files I have saved to my desktop. It tells me that it can't be opened and there is a newer version of numbers. I already have that. What to do?
Does anyone have an answer? I can't get apple support. I have files that I need that I can't open because I get an error that there is a new version of numbers, but I have already downloaded it.

? have updated my mac pro to os mavericks but now my mouse doesn't function like before. Any suggestions pls?
My magic track pad works fine, the magic mouse cursor stayed in the central part of the screen and would only move up and down on a slight diagonal. I went into system preferences/mouse/more gestures and disabled all swipes. Problem solved.

Windows XP on Dell Dimension 4600. Updated Firefox to 4.0.1 successfully but Roboform didn't transfer. Help told me I needed to update Roboform. I did and paid for a new version(7.?)which was $9.95. Roboform wants more details but I can't tell what they want. I'm baffled and frustrated since all my passwords are hidden somewhere. Wish I'd never upgraded FF.
Nothing is working and I can't find the Roboform toolbar. Your lack of direct support is really irritating- a live chat at least would be helpful.

What happened to page headers and footers in the new version of Numbers?
Just downloaded the update to Numbers. Where did the Show Layout with page headers and footers go?
They are somewhere on the cutting room floor at the Apple app factory.
Send Feedback to Apple via the Numbers menu.

I have App Store 1.0. MacUpdate Desktop tells me there is a new version 1.0.1. How do I update App Store. Mac Update only takes me directly to App Store. Not much help in that, as I don't find how to update the App Store itself.

<Edited by Host>Thank you for your advice.
Actually, I am aware that the upgrade is implemented in 10.6.7. However, up until now I haven't been able to upgrade to Mac OS X 10.6.7, as I have software that is not yet compatible. So I wondered how to do it within 10.6.6? May be it is not possible? Anyway, this gave me a push to track the software I use for compatibility, and I found that an update for 10.6.7 now is ready for download, so then I will probably solve two issues at the same time. Takes a little work though. Thank you again for your advice. -
Why do I have to go to app store to open new version of Numbers on my computer?
Why can I only open the new version of numbers through the app store?
Hi Arnie.carol,
If I am understanding you correctly, it sounds like you may be trying to open the new version of Numbers, which is installed on your computer, but when you attempt to open it you only see the old version opening. If this is the case, it can be explained by the information in the following article about updating iWork:
About the new iWork for Mac: Features and compatibility - Apple Support
http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT6049
In the meanwhile, you can continue to use these features by accessing the previous versions of the iWork applications which remain installed on your Mac. The previous versions can be found in Applications > iWork ’09.
You can double check this by utilizing a right-click on the Numbers icon in your dock, and choosing “Show in Finder,” which should take you to the application:
OS X Mavericks: Shortcuts for the Dock
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13718
See an item in the Finder
Command (⌘)-click the item’s icon, or Control-click the icon, then choose Options > Show in Finder.
From there, you can check the version number to see if it matches the updated version number in the App Store. Next, if you wish to always open the new version of Numbers by clicking on the icon in the Dock, open the application from the App Store as you have been doing, then right-click on the active Numbers application (the one that will have a light below it), and choose to add the application to the Dock by choosing “Keep in Dock”:
Add an open app to the Dock
Control-click the app’s icon, then choose Options > Keep in Dock.
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

when I click on a saved document or spreadsheet, I get this message 'You need a newer version of Numbers to open this document'. When I go Software update, there is no update for pages or numbers. can't purchase or update?
Trying re-purchasing. won't let me. says to check for updates?
any suggestionsIt sounds to me as though you are attempting to open a Pages 09 document with the Pages 08 application. If you do have Pages 09 on your computer, it may be that for some reason an existing Pages 08 application is invoked accidentally.

I ran the latest Numbers update and now I cannot open several of the Numbers files I created and saved previously. When I try, a box appears that says I need to update to a newer version of Numbers. I ALREADY updated to the newest version!!!! Any suggestions?
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
When you upgraded Numbers to the most recent version, the Mac App Store kept the old version in case you need it in the future. Your problem is that you are opening the old version by mistake instead of the new one.
To fix this, open a Finder window, select Applications in the sidebar and drag the new Numbers version (the one with the new icon) to the Dock. By doing this, you can access to the new Numbers version easily, so you will not open the old version by mistake anymore. Also, I recommend you to open the documents after opening Numbers. The same applies for all other iWork applications.
If you want, you can remove the old Numbers version, but some users have complained about the lack of features of the new Numbers version. Apple will add more features in the future. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6049?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US -
When I try to open a spreadsheet on my Mac that I worked on with my iPhone, I get "You need a newer version of Numbers to open this spreadsheet." When I go to the App store, it says I already have it. I have v. 2.3 and can't seem to download newer version.
If you are running Mavericks, and the Mac App store says you are up to date, then you have Numbers 3.2 as well as Numbers 2.3. You are getting the "Need a newer version message because your Mac is trying to open the document using Numbers 2.3.
Launch Numbers 3, then open the document from within that app, or right click/control-click the document and choose Open with Numbers 3.x.

Recently I updated to Maverick -- I also updated Numbers, Pages and Keynote. NOW, I cannot open my pages documents. I get a message that I need a newer version of Pages. I have the newest version (5.2). How do I get around this to view my documents?
You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed almost 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

I've got an important file I need to access. I had no trouble on 9/20 and today I am told I need to download the latest version of Numbers, which I'd already done. I'm not having trouble with any other files. Help
Please see this user tip:
Need newer version of Numbers to open file -
Tried to open a file I created in Numbers a while ago, which I modified on 11/4/13, and got a message that I needed a newer version of Numbers. When I went to the Mac App Store it shows that the new version is already installed and there doesn't seem to be a way to reinstall it. When I checked "About Numbers" on my MacBook it shows "Numbers '09 version 2.3". Any suggestions as to how I can get the new version installed?
Are you launching Pages from an icon in your Dock? Installing the update does not change the Dock icons & it does not remove the older versions. Go to your Applications folder & launch the new Pages from there.

I cannot re-open files that have been saved in Numbers version09 - it states "You need a newer version of numbers to open this document". This is the latest version & also the one I have created/saved???
Jules,
You may delete Numbers 08 if you wish, but some folks like keeping it around. Close all your Numbers docs and Quit the Numbers app, and the other Numbers app if necessary. Then click the Numbers icon on your doc. Then select Numbers > About Numbers, and in the window that pops up, see which version it is. If the Dock icon started Numbers 08, you can cure that by dragging that icon off the Dock and letting it go in a puff of virtual smoke.
Now, to put the Numbers 09 icon on the Dock, double-click one of those known Numbers 09 documents so that Numbers 09 starts up. Verify by checkig Numbers > about Numbers.
Now click and hold the Numbers Dock icon and select the Option for Keep in Dock.
