and in system report >> hardware >> Graphics/Display >> it shows both grafics card listed.

Some Mac's when the RAM is increased the Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics will bump itself up to the higher video RAM it takes, this seems to be what occured.
It also means the dedicated graphics card will be used less, but only so slightly less.
You obviously still should have both, you can test this by turning off Graphics Switching in Energy Saver, that will use the decicated AMD card all the time.
You can also run Cinebench and compare the scores here

  • I have the new macbook pro from late 2011. when i try plugging my cannon gl2 into the mac via firewire 800 it does not show up in iMovie as an option to import from. i even have gone into my settings on the camera and changed it to vcr.

I have the new MacBook Pro from late 2011. "the one before the new ritina display" i have a cannon gl2 video camera which is mini dv. when i plug it into my mac via firwire 800 it does not show up in the iMovie. i have set the settings on the camera to vcr mode and changed it to av->dv out. when i click on the import from camera on imovie it doesnt even show my camera in it. it just gives me the option to import video from my facetime camera. the camera is turned on the wires are connected i know for fact that its a firewire and not a usb. i know what they each look like. i bought the firewire cable and it was marked down cause it was an opened and used item. would it be possible that it could be deffected and if that is not the reason what other options do i have?

I would say that odds are high that you have a bad cable. Maybe that is why they returned it.
I would suggest trying a different firewire cable.
You can find Firewire cables inexpensively at monoprice.com. You need a 4 pin to 9 pin firewire cable.
    Here is a link.

    Other things to check:
Is your camera plugged in to wall power (not to batteries only). Must be hooked to an AC power source to import.

  • Want to upgrade my macbook pro 15" late 2011 ram to 16 gb

Hello, I'm looking to upgrade my MBP (late 2011, 15") memory ram from 4 gb to 16 gb and i'll like to know which are the best brands recommended. I've seen the specs in my laptop and it should be 1333 mhz ddr3 for the ram.
    Thank you!

    Maximum Memory
16 GB (Actual) 8 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots
    2 - 204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
Brand is not relevant. The vendor is. I recommend:

  • Hardware upgrade of Macbook Pro 13" Late 2011.

    Hello there.
I am thinking to upgrade my MBP 13" late 2011 (2.4 GHz Intel Core i5)
This is what I am planning to do:
    Replace the RAM with: 2 x Corsair DDR3 SO-DIMM 1066MHz 4GB MAC (http://www.komplett.dk/k/ki.aspx?sku=638190)
Replace the stock 500 GB Toshiba HDD (5400) with: Neutron Series™ GTX 120GB SATA 3 6Gb/s SSD
    (http://www.corsair.com/en/ssd/neutron-series-gtx-ssd/neutron-series-gtx-120gb-sa ta-3-6gbps-ssd.html)
Also considering to replace the optical drive / CD reader with the same SSD (at later point).
    What I hope to gain:
-Much faster performing MBP in terms of opening Applications, Sleep/Awake, write/rerad speeds etc.
    -Better battery life
    -Less noise
-And in general see the spinning beach ball less : )
Is this upgrade worth it or is there a better choice of RAM and SSD? What is your opinion and advice?
P.S I am going to do the upgrade beginning of 2013.
    Thanks in advance.

The correct RAM for a late 2011 13" MBP is '2 - 204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM'.  What you show  is slower  RAM that would for a 2010 MBP.  If you run applications that require the additional RAM, certainly there will be a performance increase.  You might even consider 16GB of RAM but only if you have applications that can utilize it.  RAM that is not used is useless.
The installation of a SSD will enhance the MBP's performance, especially in reduced boot times as well as the other virtues you have mentioned.  I personally think that SSDs are still too expensive and the capacities that are available are still inadequate for my needs.  This is not to suggest that you should not get one, but I am not in a position to give you any meaningful advice on this issue.  Perhaps anther forum participant will see this and share his/her knowledge with you.
    Ciao.

  • I have a 2009 macbook pro 13" and want to make videos what is the best one for this mac A1278

what is a good video editor for my 2009 macbook pro 13"?

I don't see any DDR3L on the page for the RAM that would fit your model -> http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3_133 3MHz_SDRAM.
But the answer is that it doesn't really matter - just make certain to get 1333MHz.

  • MacBook Pro 17" (Late 2011) Graphics Card

    Hello Community,
I've researched this community, and found some relevant posts to the following question. However, the answers I found weren't completely satisfying. So, I'm posting my own on the subject to help me and others.
    I have the following:
    • MacBook Pro 17" (Late 2011, MacBookPro8,3) 2.5 ghz Quad Core i7/512 SSD/8 GB RAM
    • Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 6770M with 1 GB VRAM and Intel HD 3000 Graphics
I know desktop models can be upgraded, but I can not afford the one I need at the moment. I am aware that many Apple laptop graphics cards can not be upgraded. Can this particular AMD Radeon graphics card be replaced and upgraded?
If it can be replaced and upgraded, any suggestions on the best graphics card available? AMD has some nice upgrades.
The card is nice, fast, and I'm not unhappy with it, but I run graphics and multimedia applications, and could benefit from the newer cards available.
    I appreciate your input community.
    Thanks,
    Greg

About the only time you can upgrade a video card in a notebook is if that model notebook came with a better video card then what you ordered. At a later date if that better video card become available on the used market you could by one and replace the original as it was made to fit in the same model.
But it is almost impossible to buy one from the original manufacturer. Especial during the current production run of that model.
In your case the model you bought has the best video card available in the new line of MBPs. So there is no better card that would fit in your system. Whether the new models that will be coming out later this year will use a better video card and whether it would physical fit in your model is unknow.
But all of what I wrote above doesn't really matter as with all Macbook Pros the video card and CPU is Soldered to the logic board and can not be replaced. If either fails the complete logic board needs to be replaced.
The only things that can be easily replaced by the user in a Apple Macbook Pro is the RAM, hard drive and DVD drive.
All other parts Apple does not sell to the general public.
So your only option is if the newer models have a better video card is to sell your present system and buy the new model.

  • MacBook Pro i5 2.5 GHz/8GB RAM  With Retina

    Hi eveyone,
As many of you already did, today I've upgraded my MacBook Pro i5 2.5 GHz/8GB RAM from Mountain Lion (10.8.5) to Mavericks (10.9).
Unfortunately, I'm experiencing serious and unpleasant issues since I installed the upgrade.
Specifically, my monitor flickers almost every time I scroll an application window (e.g., Safari, Chrom or internet, either using an USB mouse or the trackpad.
Moreover, when I pass the mouse over the Dock, this starts vibrating from time to time.
After several reboots and given that one of the new features of Mavericks is the new management of external monitors, I've tried to re-install from scratch the OS X upgradewithout connecting my laptop to the external LCD but still nothing has changed.
I'm really annoyed by having both monitors flickering. Another particular thing is that if I try to click on the Finder menu appearing on the external monitor, this makes flicker the primary monitor approximately at the same coordinates (i.e., at the Finder menu of the laptop monitor).
It seems like something is going wrong with the video card drivers but this is just my conjecture.
Are you guys experiencing the same or is there anything you might want to suggest to solve these issues?
    Thank you in advance

  • Is it possible to upgrade a macbook pro 15 late 2008 memory upgrade to 8 go

    Hi from Belgium,
Is it possible to upgrade a macbook pro 15 late 2008 memory from 4 to 8 go. And if yes would i have to replace both memory modules.
I'm also experiencing problems with the battery. Could you tell me if the new replacement batteries are based on the new techonology (long lasting) or if the replacement battery will be the same as the original one.
Thanks and have a good day.
    Francis

    Hi CMCSK and thanks.
Maybe it's because of the SMC reset I've done.
My computer wasn't responding to the power button when pressed and used to shut down unexpectedly so I did the SMC reset as per the procedure hereafter.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?viewlocale=en_US
So according to you, the battery seems to work properly and doesn't need to be replaced.
Don't know if it's important but the figures I gave where the one with magsafe connected.
In fact for the time beeing I only use my computer with magsafe plugged.
I just unplugged the magpower and here are the new figures after 10 minutes.
    Charge Information:
      Charge Remaining (mAh):          3103
      Fully Charged:          No
      Charging:          No
      Full Charge Capacity (mAh):          3491
      Health Information:
      Cycle Count:          245
      Condition:          Normal
      Battery Installed:          Yes
      Amperage (mA):          -1431
      Voltage (mV):          11816
Are these figures still ok ? Thanks for your help and have a good day.

Use a alias, but you might have to use a zip code that matches the location used.
Also if you click the right button there is a way to bypass the registration, like register later or something, Apple has it hidden. Also to bypass the internet connection to send the registration off.
Never place your name on a Mac or PC, it's spread throughout the entire machine, in emails, on the network in plain sight etc.

Because your MBP does not require it.
