Sometimes it goes away if I fiddle with the volume slider.
Skype should not be making any sound at all if everyone in the call has muted their mics.
We also have several problems with group calls.
Sometimes people get no sound and the call has to be restarted.
Sound quality is bad for some but parking the call and resuming usually fixes it.
Sometimes joining a group call does not work at all the call has to be restarted.

Since it plays fine in Windows Media Player, rip the CD in WMP and add the resulting MP3s to your iTunes library.

Static even with sound suppression on

So today I just finished building myself a new PC. I turned on Noise Suppression and Acoustic Echo Cancellation on in the recording section of the sound window in the enhancement tab but Skype doesn't seem to be effected by it. My friends are complaining about the loud and I mean extremely loud fuzzing from the mic.
On ACL892 from realtek and on Windows 8.1. (I also tried the modern app.)
I'm also on the latest drivers.
Also I used this same mic on my old computer without loud fuzzing.
if I listen to the mic with the settings on using the listen to mic setting, I can not hear the fuzzing so for some reason, I think skype isn't getting the settings I used for the mic.

Tried http://community.skype.com/t5/Windows-desktop-client/Skype-7-0-ignores-system-quot-Noise-suppression... and it did not work, it made it so I couldn't use the mic enhancements at all plus it removes all my motherboard specific features. Gonna try the old skype for now, still looking for a way to actually resolve this issue. as I NEED to use skype to talk to people as I do not own or phone and the people I talk to don't use facebook.

When I plug my earpiece in you can still hear it. Its not the earpiece cause I've tried a few.

First thing to consider is whether you have the plug all the way in. When new, it can be a little bit of a tight fit and fairly easy to not have it fully engaged.

This category is for iPod shuffle. Is that the type of iPod you have, because your description of the problem does not sound like it's about a shuffle? If it's not a shuffle, what is the iPod model...?
There is music there and I can play it connected to laptop.
Are you doing the playing using the iPod, or are you playing the music using iTunes on the laptop?

Callers only hear static, however mic works fine with skype or with headset

Hi guys,
My partner started experiencing a problem with users calling her and they would only hear static. She would hear them fine however. As the warranty recently ran out, the Apple store genius's did nothing more then just restoring it. Having played around with it a bit myself I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction of finding a fix. The mic itself works fine when recording a memo for example or making a Skype call. Also using a headset it runs fine. So any suggestions appreciated.
I know a common suggestion is put the headset in and pull it out a few times, but that didn't work, and she hasn't actually ever used a headset before anyway, so unlikely of been the cause.

I had this intermittent issue where callers could either not hear me or hear static. I did a complete reload of the software and reset the network settings on the phone but the problem always came back. I finally got to the point where the problem occurred all the time so I decided to open it up. I removed the battery and the speaker/mic assembly to check for debris but I found nothing. I also could not find any liquid damage on the board. I reassembled the device and now the phone works great. The only thing I believe it could've been was that the screws may have loosened and the board was not grounded. I've seen this happen to laptops just from typical transport or movement. Just something to consider if you see this problem however if your phone is still under warranty, have Apple service it.

EA6500 -- can hear static/beeps during downloads/updates

Have been on live chat with rep for an hour and decided to run this by anyone who has heard of problem. We just installed our EA6500 Smart Wi-Fi router and it works great! All admin set up, wired pc connected, wireless notebooks connected, wifi printer connected, and 2 game consoles connected. All work fine!
BUT, the router is located here on my desk by the wired pc, cpu, & speakers and we can hear when a software download, software update, or even a router speed test is conducted! If anyone else is old enough to remember what a record sounded like when played at too fast a speed, that is what we are hearing: static and fast high pitched sounds.
Tried moving our speaker further away from the router but there is only so far it can be moved.
Anyone else experienced this or have a better solution?

This is a strange scenario. By the way, where is the sound coming from? Is it from the router itself, the computer or the speaker?
I believe this case needs further isolation. Have you tried downloading using other computers and check if the same problem exists? Try also checking possible interference on the place where the router is located. Like phones and devices running on 2.4GHz or frequency.

Can only hear static

Hi, I'm currently using Audition 1,5. I've used it for recording with my microphone and it has always worked correctly.
I've recently bought the Tascam US-122L to plug in my guitar in the computer.
Well, that works fine, I can hear my guitar correctly and it works great with Guitar Rig.
BUT, when I try to record with Audition, i can only hear static or small "pops"
It might be my Tascam, but I highly doubt it.
There is probbably a setting I didn't enter right..
Can anybody tell me what to do in order to be able to record myself through Audition 1.5?
I've attached a picture of what the static looks like in Audition.

Ok, your Tascam should have ASIO drivers. Since you've been getting results from Guitar Rig, I'll assume you have that installed...
To access the Audition Windows Sound driver for Audition 2.0:
1. In Audition 2.0, choose Edit > Audio Hardware Setup.
2. Select the tab at the top for the area of Audition you want to configure (Edit View, Multitrack View and Surround Encoder). The default driver appears in the Audio Driver drop down list as Audition Windows Sound.
Note: If an ASIO driver supplied by the sound card manufacturer is installed, it will also appear in this menu. (Your Tascam should be in the list)
Your windows should look something similar to the attachment, just select the Tascam as your device. Once you have it set up in the audio settings, you'll have to go into the Multitrack view and asign the input to each track you want to record to. There's a spot on each track to set the input (second image with the red arrow pointing to the input option, note it says none on the image, yours should say tascam in 1 or something similar).

After upgrading to Mavericks (from 10.7.8), I get a popping sound on my speakers even with mute. Suggestions?

I've never had an issue with my sound on my MBP 15" 2011 model until I upgraded to Mavericks. Shortly after I upgraded, I started getting a 'popping' sound coming from the speakers even with the volume muted.
I'm trying to figure out what could be causing it by eliminating running programs but no luck yet. So far I've tried:
disabling graphic switching
disabling the Flash plug in for Chrome
Checking Voice over settings in accessibility (off)
Killing coreaudiod
So far, only killing coreaudiod has worked for any length of time.
I'm not playing a sound, I have nothing in the background that's generating sound (with the exception of MS Office 2013 running in Parallels generating meeting notification alerts - that seems to cause part of it) but something is obviously triggering it.
Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?

Might be corrupted audio preferences ..
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following;
/Library/Preferences/Audio
Click Go then move both .plist files from the Audio folder to the Trash.
com.apple.audioDeviceSettings.pllist
com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist
Restart your Mac. See if that made a difference ...

Static nat with port redirection 8.3 access-list using un-nat port?

I am having difficulty following the logic of the port-translation and hoping someone can shed some light on it. Here is the configuration on a 5505 with 8.3

So I would have thought the outside access-list should reference the 'mapped' port but even with 3398 open I cannot remote desktop to the host. If I open 3389 then I can connect successfully. What gives?

I would be more than glad to explain you what is going on!
The thing is since 8.3 NAT is reviewed before the acl so, the ASA receives the packet on the outside interface, checks for a existing connection, if there is none it will un-nat the packet and then check the ACL.
After the packet in un-natted what we have is the private ip addresses and the real ports. so that is why on this versions you got to point the ACL to the private ip addresses and ports.

Bug in rendering static list with Hierarchical Expanding template?

on http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=23910 I prepared test case for my problem. It is static list with template Hierarchical Expanding and following structure:

Entry 1.2 has condition set to never. And the problem is, as you can see, that entry 2 seems to be under entry 1.1. But really it isn't. Reason of this strange look is that in some cases, when condition for last entry in sublist is evaluted as false, there isn't generated tag </ul> closing that sublist, in this case are not closed even two sublists - under entries 1 and 1.1.
In my real application it is more complicated, I have static list with about 80 entries (report menu) and every user sees some reports based on his position in organization structure and other conditions. And as you can imagine, this bug produces really confusing results, almost unique for every user.
Did anybody meet this problem too? We are on ApEx 4.1.0, it is present in 4.1.1 too (as seen on apex.oracle.com)... And I think it wasn't problem in 4.0 (at least nobody noticed for few months and I believe somebody would notice that reports for one department are under reports for another one). Used theme is standard theme 2 - Builder Blue.

I tried deriving the full path for the image file by viewing the source when I embedded it in an HTML region on the same page and it gives me something similar to the following URL:

As a result, I tried embedding this into the code:

but this time, instead of merely not rendering, when Acrobat opens, an error message appeared reported that the file was corrupted or invalid. When trying different formats, I seem to get a generic: "500 Internal Server Error".

Spinning Beach Ball of Death. Even with all programs closed, I'm still using 5 GB of RAM, according to Activity Monitor. Help!

Ever since installation of OSX Lion, I've been having freeze-up problems on my early 2011 MacBook Pro. Increased the RAM from 4GB to 8GB. Amazingly, when I have Mail and Chrome open, almost all of the RAM is consumed. Even with all programs closed, I only have about 3 GB of free space. Any ideas as to what the problem is?

Mail under Lion (your profile says 10.5) is always busy and doesn't like large email database I hear.
Chrome and Safari don't clear their history and cache, lack quota on how many days and disk use, so clear those out. This is where I do use CCleaner on Mac as well as Wndows.
I keep reading from 10.6 on that even closing (quit) does not release memory and threads galour that there are memory leaks that you have to repair permissions, even restart, and poor memory management for many people's systems (often laptops).
Free RAM is wasted RAM though. Even 3GB seems excessive. This is not OS 9 or 1999.
but I found that 4-core 4GB RAM was fine except for handling large photo libraries.

My MacBook Pro's battery is completely dead and even with the power chord attached it doesn't turn on. Any solution ?

I read somewhere that even with the drained out battery the mac should work with power chord attached. In my MacBook Pro 8.1 (late 2011) the green battery indicater on the side of the laptop just blinks depicting that the battery is dead. But the mac is not turning on even when the power chord is attached. I don't mind working with the power chord all the time but at least the MacBook should turn on. When I press the power button I hear nothing, I see nothing , there is no change. It's just a dead laptop. I am worried. Is there something else wrong with my MacBook Pro

Ok...I'd be tempted to try another charger if you have access to one. If not, I'd book a Genius appointment at your nearest Apple Store & get them to take a look for you.

IOS 8.1.3: an error has occurred with your microphone/speaker

I have this problem with my girlfriend.
Recently, we just upgraded from IOS7 to IOS8.1.3.
We are frequent facetime users as we use it via Wifi and 3G connections.
After the update, there are many annoying facetime issues occurred while we were trying to call each other.
Below are the examples:
1. An error has occurred with your microphone/speaker (T104):
Explanation:
After a few tries to call via facetime, we are always stucked at "Connecting...". So we gave up. We changed to use other apps, such as Line to call. However, I noticed that the speaker volume button will not work anymore. Volume up/down do not have any functions. Even calling with other apps, will have this error. So the only solution is to restart the phone. We need to restart almost everyday now.
2. No Network Connection:
Explanation: I am using the same Wifi connection everyday at home. Sometimes this error pops up. No other solution but must restart the phone to use facetime. No problem using the same Wifi in other apps.
