Question

I love the phone !! - but I think I am making something quite simple into something complex - please help :-)
I 'just' want the Nokia5800 to sync with my Google Calendar, Google Contacts and Google Mail.

After reading around I understand that the best way to Sync with Google Calendar is using the free application 'GooSync'.
It works perfectly but does not automatically sync, I have to follow this process each time.
'Middle White Key > Settings > Connectivity > Data Transfer > Sync > Options > Change active profile > GooSync.com' 
The only option ticked at this page is  'Calendar' which has the sync date of '18/04/2009', the rest say 'Sync. not done'
I then sync by selecting 'Options > Syncronise' then select my Internet connection and finally I am rewarded with the message 'Sync Complete'
This is getting tiresome - there must be a way to get my GooSync.com profile to Sync automatically - isn't there ? 
I see the following setting details when I select 'Options > Edit sync profile'  :

Any ideas how to regularlly automate this process ?

To sync my contacts I click the contacts button on the home screen and then...
Options > Synchronisation > Start ... I then select the Sync profile 'Contacts Sync' and after selecting my Internet Connection I am rewarded with 'Sync Complete'. - not a difficult procedure but I hoped this would be automated ??!!
When (following the procedure above for 'Calendar') I view the sync profile for 'Contacts Sync' only the 'Contacts' option is ticked the rest say 'Sync. not done'. When I select 'Options > Edit sync profile' I get :

When I click on the 'Messaging Icon' I get the following icons:
[Envelope with blue pencil] New message - only for texts
[Envelope with green arrow] Inbox - only texts received here
[White circle with blue/green arrows and @ sign] c@snuker - this is the sync e-mail inbox I set up but it doesn't work
[Envelope with @ sign] [email protected] (gmail) - this mail box has all 300 of my gmail emails in it
[Envelope with blue arrow] Send - only for texts
[Envelope with piece of paper] Drafts - only for texts 
[Blue arrow in tray] Outbox - currently has 4 'deffered' emails that I have written that will not send
Now I think that I am using it all wrong. The 'sync' mail box c@snuker is doing nothing (and I think this is why my Outbox is not shifting the 4 defferred emails and I am not sure how the [email protected] (gmail) mail box working.

When I click on this I get to another page with 2 lines, one saying "[Google Mail] 0 e-mails" and the next saying "Inbox 252 e-mails" 
Clicking on [Google Mail] I see the Drafts/SentMail/Spam/Starred/Trash folders of my Gmail with various numbers of e-mails listed.
Clicking on [Inbox] I see the e-mails I have previouslly downloaded to my phone.
If I click 'Options > Retrieve e-mail > New' after selecting the internet connection it collects the e-mails since the last retrieval. On my phone this takes a few seconds (only 300 e-mails in my new Gmail account) however my wife has exactly the same settings and it takes ages (but 3000 e-mails in her Gmail account). Given that 3000 e-mails in a Gmail account is not a lot there must be something wrong here.
I feel that this process is not the right one and my e-mail are not being sync'ed using any profile but simply retrieved. Is this the right way to do this as it seems a bit cluncky ?
Obviouslly I would prefer to have my e-mail pushed automatically to me rather than me looking for it - how do I do this ?

This Inbox is doing nothing but with the 'Sync' icon being so obvious and the fact that I can see it as an option in my Email Sycn Settings I think I am missing a trick here and this should be the e-mail box I should use.
When I click on this icon I am taken to a page with:
Inbox 0 msgs
Outbox 0 msgs
Sent 0 msgs
Options > Syncronisation settings .... just takes me to the Sync Profile listing
In the Email Settings of the 'Contacts Sync' profile I have ...
Database in phone : [email protected] 
Sync e-mail database : Inbox  
But when I click Options > Syncronise > Start .... the phone just disconnects 
HELP :-)

Hi there,
I've just joined google for my email and like you wanted to sync my contacts and calendar.
I had a couple of problems but have ironed them out below.
First....Google have a 'google sync' program that is advertised as syncing both your contacts and calendar. This has not worked for me. I can sync my calendar no problem at all, but it hasn't worked for my contacts. On looking across the google firums I am by no means alone and indeed google employees who post there have acknowledged the problem too,
So how to get round it and sync your calendar and contacts?

Follow the instructions and tell the Mail for Exchange program NOT to sync your contacts.  Like I said, although it's supposed to I couldn't get it to work despite a reformat of the device twice! A google employee on the forums even went out and bought the 5800 and tried to get it to work as he has noted that people are having problems. Hopefully it'll be addressed in the future.

All the details for contacts sync are laid out for the pages of setup you have for a S60 3rd edition device. If, like me you have a S60 5th edition device, the details are all there but are requested in a different order. Have a good scan of the pages and you WILL find all the info you need.
Both methods work great for me and I'm delighted.
