I imported a photo to iphoto (ver9.6) but the edit mode will not open.

I imported a photo to iPhoto (ver 9.6) but when I click on Edit, nothing happens; I am not able to open the Edit Mode.
How do I fix this?

Perhaps the original of the photo is missing. You can check this by selecting the photo and using the command "File > Reveal in Finder > Original File". Is this command available and can iPhoto show the original?

When I email photos from iphoto (9.2.2) the recepients are unable to open the files, and command I tells me they are locked-
How and where do I unlock them?

You can't unlock files on their machines.
iPhoto sends HTML emails and not every email application (or user) knows how to work with these.
Send Plain text emails via Mail instead. That's pretty foolproof.

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

The photo must be open to be able to, "delete".

  • How can I import all photos from iPhoto and delete all the ones currently on my iPad?

I uploaded all of my iPad's photos to iPhoto('08) thinking it would be easier to delete and organize them. Now that I've done that in iPhoto I need help finding out how to delete all the photos from the iPad and have the iPhoto photos imported from iPhoto back to the iPad.

This workflow may do what you want:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new library.
2 - connect the iPad to your Mac with the new library open.
3 - import all of the photos from the iPad into the new library.
4 - select the option to delete all of the photos from the iPad.
5 - disconnect the iPad and delete the new library.
6 - launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and select your original library.
7 - assemble the photos destined for the iPad so you can easily identify them by album or event which you alread have done.
8 - launch iTunes and connect the iPad to your Mac.
9 - go to the photos section for you iPad and synce those particular albums or Events with the iPad.
That will get those specific iPad photos back into the iPad.

  • Iphoto 7.1.5 edit screen will not open photos

suddenly - meaning i was editing just fine as always & the next time i tried to open a photo to edit, the screen was blank - tried within different events - nada - tried closing iphoto 2ce - nada - shut down my computer (imac: os 10.6.8) - nada - checked all possible commands in all drop downs (that i was sure i didn't do) - nada - so NOW WHAT!?  thanks for any help

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
    Post back with the result.

  • I cannot understand any of the instructions to email my photos from iPhoto - I don't know why it will not work.  I believe I have tried all the answers I have seen on this site (which are confusing to me).  HELP!

I have been trying to email someone some photos (only 10) from iPhoto.  That darn pop-up window keeps popping up, telling me to check my email server, etc. I have NO idea what to do.  I have tried doing what other posters have suggested - to no avail.  Is there someone who can tell me what to do using non-tech language?  This is SO frustrating...

    Hi ..
It's just a matter of giving iPhoto your email reader.
    Quit iPhoto if it's open.
    Open the Mac Mail app.
From the Mail menu bar click Mail > Preferences then select the General tab.
Select your mail accoun tfrom the:   Default email reader   pop  up menu.
    Relaunch iPhoto.
Select a photo then go to the iPhoto menu bar click Share > Email

  • I want to upgrade to iPhoto/iMovie '11 but the latest release is not compatible with OSX 10.6.8

Can I buy an older version anywhere? Or am I being coerced into buying Lion? I tried looking through the app store but it seems increasingly likely that I'm going to have to buy an old iLife disc of someone, or upgrade. Unfortunately I'm using a late 2007 Macbook (not even Macbook pro) which handles leopard but not sure if it will handle Lion.
    Currently I'm running...
    OSX 10.6.8
    iPhoto '08 7.1.5
    iMovie '08 7.1.4

Thanks! I found iLife 11 on amazon, but can I download it? I don't mind paying for it, just don't want to wait. Thanks.

  • I have 2 Apple ID's but the app store will not let me update iPhoto with either

I have a MacBook pro 2011. For some reason i have ended up with 2 Apple ID's i must have forgotten something or i changed my account name from when i first set up the machine. Some apps allow me to upgrade with one but not the other. I have upgraded to Yosemite via a clean install at the Apple store. I have loaded back on my back up but iPhoto isn't there and it has asked me to upgrade via the App store. Unfortunately neither Apple ID's will let me upgrade.
    The Message on screen is:
Upgrade unavailable with this Apple ID
This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled
Do i head back to the Apple store and talk with them or is there something i can do at home?
Thanks in advance of any help

I think you're confusing RAM memory with hard drive memory storage...the two aren't the same.
Although you're being told you need 2GB of RAM to run Mountain Lion....I would consider 4GB the minimum.  You should be able to upgrade the RAM in your iMac to 4GB for well under $100.

  • I have a iMac that will not open programs like Iphoto. I would update the software but software update will not open and the app store will not open so I can't update the software

I hav an Imac and all of a sudden I cannot ope most apple programs like Iphoto. when I try to update the software I cannot open software update nor the app store.

Since this problem occurred, have you shut down (powered off) and restarted your iMac?

  • Can Lightroom 3 or 4 be updated still? I just purchased a Nikon d800 but the Raw files will not import using a MAC

As above shows, I might be in the wrong place to ask here? But can any one give me leads to this issue or can anyone share if they had the same issue.

    1. You'll know because there's be a Camera Raw update in your Software Update.
    2. iPhoto 11 is the current version. It will support it.
If iPhoto - or any app - isn't meeting you needs, of course get another application.

  • HT1349 iPhoto v. 9.2.3 suddenly will not open, clicked on icon =ng, tried to open in finder=ng, ?? Help !!...rebooted several times with no luck...any help

Can anyone tell me what the problem may be whereby I cannot open iphoto today neither by clicking the icon in the dock nor by kopening through finder ?? I tried restarting without luck, then tried to shut down and start without luck ?? Would appreciate any help out there ...
(all other apps seem to be opening as usual)

What version of iPhoto do you actually have?
    iPhoto Menu -> About iPhoto
If you have iPhoto 08 then the v9.1.5 update will have done nothing. Ditto with iPhoto v8.0.2
You have the most up-to-date version of iPhoto 08 there is.
I cannot open any events in iphoto when I double click on them. I can see the other pictures in each event but that's all.
Check the double click speed on your Mouse.
What happens when you try to open an Event?

  • I-Photo files will not open

I have a Mac OSX 10.4.11 system. Some of my iphoto files in the iphoto folder in the finder window have morphed into documents that will not open rather then the usual .jpg files. I have the thumbnails in the library but, when clicked, they open to the grey rounded corner square with the exclamation point in the center. These grey windows affect about 40 of 1000+ pictures. When getting "info" on these document type files it does not say what type of file it is, only that it gives the answer "none" as to which application can open the document/file.
I have tried rebuilding the database by opening iphoto holding down the option and command (apple) keys to no avail. This does not seem to be the usual disconnect between thumbnail and file because when going iphoto/user/library/originals the files themselves will not open.
I will appreciate any info on this ---    Thank you,  Jeremy

    Hello Mr. Terence ---
It was a disconnect/location problem between the thumbnail and the files. I figured out this morning that the pics that were grey! bombing were all located in one folder in a larger 2006 folder. The file had pictures from both 2005 and 2006 in it so I tried moving the grey! bombing folder to the 2005 folder from the 2006 folder and Voila!! the pics were now showing up in I-Photo.
I don't know/remember if I re-labeled the problem file folder or whether or not myself or the computer did the sorting into the "year" type files. Probably my mistake because one wouldn't think that the computer itself would forget where it put/located something.
In any case, problem solved! I did have to remove the .jpg from the files that I had tried last night and that had subsequently opened in "Preview" to get them to work after re-locating the problem file. Thank you again ---
