I imported cds using iTunes, but...
I imported all of my cds using iTunes, but when I try to get track names I get an error message saying that iTunes cannot get track names because the songs were not imported using iTunes. It then tells me that I need to import using iTunes. I have too many cds in there to do it all over again. What I have done wrong?

Not sure you can do anything about this. I get vaiable import speeds - a lot depends on the actual disc. The Read Write spec is 24X but I rarely see speeds close to this.

I've been importing all my old CDs into itunes but one of them which came up as unknown has imported as single tracks named track 1, track 2 etc. It wasn't an obscure CD (Paul Carrack - the journey so far) but not one that's available in the itunes store. I've manually changed the track names but they all appear as single tracks in the "Albums" section. Is there a way to put them all into an album to show up as an album with the other albums. Other "unknown" CDs I imported have imported with the correct track names but just don't have the album artwork so I don't understand why this one is behaving totally different?
If you select the tracks all together in iTunes/ Songs then go to File/Get info you will be asked "Are you sure you want to edit information for multiple items?" Go ahead and you can make them into an album, putting in the artist name, etc.

When I import cds to itunes, the albums do not contain all songs. If there is a duet, each duet is listed as a separate album.
As an example," Genius Loves Company" or "Tuskegee" each are listed as many albums---each album has a separate song.
I spoke to Apple Help and they were of some help, but did not answer the question.Unfortunately you've discovered too late how important it is to maintain an up-to-date backup of your iTunes library (and all other data of value). You could, before wiping the drive, have considered making use of a commercial data recovery service that could (albeit at considerable cost) have extracted your library from the hard disk, even if virus infected.
In the absence of that option, you will need to restore the content of your library from its original sources:
Depending on your location, you may be able to re-download any iTunes Store purchases that are still available on the Store
Likewise, most digital purchases from Amazon (including auto-rip copies of purchased CDs) should be available from the Amazon Cloud and via the Amazon Music application - the same may be true of other commercial sources for digital downloads

The specific situation that you describe regarding the music imported from your friend's external HDD suggests that either the source is badly organized and/or originates from a source other than iTunes (other media players may use alternative tags for information like artist, title, album, etc. that are not wholly consistent with how iTunes handle these). Without details of the issues you're seeing it is difficult to suggest a remedy other than going through the media album-by-album, track-by-track, and correcting the inconsistencies.
In the absence of a backup or access to the original library data there is no option other than painstakingly recreating your library as described above. As you do so, you'll now realize how important creating and maintaining backups are - in my case I have at all times three separate duplicates of my library, in two different locations, where none is ever more than a week old compared to the content of my master library. -

Thank you all for your replies. Here is what i ended up doing. I cannot afford any 3rd party software so i went to itunes and manually entered all my playlists. As I had indicated my purchased music was on my new computer just not the playlists and I could not sync my ipod. After I rebuilt all my playlists I tried to restore my ipod to factory defaults/new. All of the steps called for in apple support and elsewhere were not available to me. I connected my ipod, went to my computer, right clicked my ipod, and formatted. That wiped my ipod so when I connected to itunes it then gave me a restore option. I did the restore and all is good in the empire again. I can now buy new music and sync my ipod so I am a happy camper.

I downloaded the program and ran it, got to the point where it says I have errors that need to be fixed... but it appears I have to pay for the rest of the program to actually repair these errors. Is this incorrect?
If I do have to pay, then I'd like to look for an alternative... the program is $40; of course, that's cheaper than buying a new iPod, but I want to avoid that too. -
I recently downloaded a movie with an avi extension, I changed it to .m4v and then tried to import it into iTunes but never goes through the importing process and it never shows up.
That WON'T convert it.
If I do the same with an MP3 and change the extension to JPG, it DOESN'T make it a picture. It makes it unusable.
Change it back to AVI and download "Handbrake". http://handbrake.fr/
Use HandBrake to "convert" it to M4V. -

* 512MB of memory (I say 1.5GB for PPC at least, 2-3GB minimum for IntelMacs)

* 9GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)

Trouble is Apple no longer sells it, check eBay & such for the Retail version, not the Gray Discs...

FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
1. Turn off iPad
2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
5. Release Home button.
ON COMPUTER
6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
7. Select "Restore iPad"...
Note:
1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
3. Repeat the process if necessary. -

the question is: does it play unter iTunes on your computer? If yes, then you have to convert the video in an iPad compatible format. You can do that within iTunes. Under iTunes click on the left side on "Movies" and find your video. Select it. Then find in the menu bar "Advanced" and the menu point "Create iPad or Apple TV version". Your computer will do the rest. When finished you should have two versions of the video, the original version and the new iPad version. Feel free to delete the original version, if you don't have any other need for it. The iPad version will play fine on your iPad.
If your original video doesn't play under iTunes, you have to convert it to a Quicktime format first. In this case, please give us more details on the format your original video is stored in. -
