I imported IE bookmarks and Firefox only saved a tiny fraction of them.

I have read the other explanations but am not clear on how to save bookmarks as an html file - there seem to be steps missing in the explanations or I'm just not getting it. Would like to stop using IE but need the bookmarks. Thanks in advance for any help!

In IE: <br />
File > Import/Export - Export to HTML file
''then in Firefox:'' <br />
Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks -> Import & Backup - Import HTML... = From HTML file

Hi. Just switched from PC to MAC (lion 6.7) and I am trying to import my bookmarks but Firefox for MAC will not recognize the Bookmark back up file. How do I move my bookmarks to my MAC from my PC?

Make sure that the backup file with the bookmarks has the correct file extension: .html for a HTML backup and .json for a JSON backup.<br />
You can check that via the right-click context menu of that file and open the Properties.<br />
If you are not sure about the file type then you can open the file in Firefox via "File > Open File"<br />
A JSON backup will show as one long text line without line breaks and a HTML backup as a web page with clickable links.<br />
    A JSON backup starts with: <nowiki>{"title":"","id":1,"dateAdded":</nowiki><br />
An HTML backup starts with: <nowiki><!DOCTYPE NETSCAPE-Bookmark-file-1></nowiki>

  • How do I import Delicious bookmarks into Firefox with tags?

How do I import Delicious bookmarks into Firefox Bookmarks Organizer so the tags port over? I tried importing but the tags are not coming over.

I recommend Xmarks. For the long-winded reasons why there's nothing better, read below.
    [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/xmarks-sync/ https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/xmarks-sync/]
    # Once installed, run the setup wizard and sign up for a free Xmarks account.
    # Once signed up, sync your bookmarks.
    # Head over to [http://my.xmarks.com/ my.xmarks.com/] and click the '''Tools''' menu option on the page, then choose '''Import Bookmarks From Del.icio.us...'''
    # Enter your del.icio.us login information so Xmarks can import your bookmarks.
    # You should see a list of your del.icio.us bookmarks. Click the '''CHECK ALL''' button, then the '''IMPORT CHECKED ITEMS''' button.
    # When Xmarks next syncs your bookmarks, you will have all of your del.icio.us bookmarks complete with tags, in a folder named "Imported from Delicious ''date of import''".
    # If you're the untrusting sort, change your del.icio.us account password.
There are two official Delicious extensions at the moment. "[https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/delicious-bookmarks/ Delicious Bookmarks]" which not compatible with Firefox 4.0.x, and "[https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/delicious-extension/ Delicious Extension]" which is marked as compatible but doesn't actually work.
    @u48998 |
Slurp didn't work for me. I got all the prompts like I was supposed to, but clicking the '''Export''' button on the delicious page changed its text to '''Please Wait...''' and it just got stuck like that with no way to continue.
Apart from that, I was rather uneasy about installing an unreviewed extension from an author I've never heard of.
    @the-edmeister |
You have that backwards. It's Firefox that does not either import or export tags from or to bookmarks.html. The only way to preserve tags when exporting is to create a json backup; these types of files wipe out all existing bookmarks when imported.

  • I had all my files, including bookmarks, backed up to my NAS when my hard drive failed. How do I import these bookmarks to Firefox on my new notebook? Is there a single HTML file I should be looking for on my NAS?

I had all my files, including bookmarks, backed up to my NAS when my hard drive failed. How do I import these bookmarks to Firefox on my new notebook? I can easily find the folder "Favorites" on my NAS, but can't get Firefox to "see" this folder, or my bookmarks.

If you open Firefox then Firefox will always use the default profile folder as found via profiles.ini on your system drive.
You either need to import the file in your current default profile or copy the file to your current profile folder while Firefox is closed.
Firefox 3 stores the bookmarks and the browser history in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/places.sqlite places.sqlite] and no longer creates an HTML backup by default.
There are also (five) JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder within the Firefox profile folder.
You can either copy the file places.sqlite to your [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] or import the most recent JSON backup from the bookmarkbackups folder of that old profile.
    See:
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Backing_up_and_restoring_bookmarks_-_Firefox
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
"Application Data" in XP/Win2K and "AppData" in Vista/Windows 7 are hidden folders.
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Show_hidden_files_and_folders
Go to: Control Panel > Folder Options > "View" tab > under "Hidden files and folders", select "Show hidden files and folders".
You may want to un-check the box "Hide extensions for known file types" to see the file extensions of all files.

  • SSL connection works through terminal and Firefox only

I have issue with SSL connection.
It works through terminal and Firefox only. Everything else requiring SSL is down including App Store. I can't fix the problem by updating software, nor reinstalling as softwareupdate and hdiutil mount patch you via SSL at the end.
No apparent reason.... It all worked fine last night.
Does anyone know what is it and how to fix it?
    Thanks.

    MurphyCooper,
this might be worth a shot: boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Has this made any difference?

  • Chrome and Firefox only display phone version of Muse website and not the desktop content

My website workeffects.com  was working properly a couple of weeks ago -  desktop, tablet and phone.  For some reason, now the desktop version only appears when it's viewed in Safari --- Chrome and Firefox only display the phone version of the site.
Please help.  I have clients that need to see the desktop version.
I have Creative Cloud and everything is up to date on the software.
    Wendi

The desktop version of my site (workeffects.com) loads properly for Safari and Internet Explorer, but when the site is viewed in Firefox or Chrome it only shows the Phone version of the site.  Please make a recommendation on how to fix this issue.

  • I can't import Seamonkey bookmarks because the only option shown on the "Import" screen in Firefox is for Internet Explorer.

On my XP computer the "import" option screen shows both IE and Netscape/Mozilla as choices; on this Windows 7 machine the only option is IE. Re-start doesn't help, and the installation of Firefox went smoothly.

You can export the bookmarks in SeaMonkey to an HTML file and import that file in Firefox.<br />
Which SeaMonkey version are you referring to?
    * Export the favorites in SeaMonkey to an HTML file (bookmarks.html):
Bookmarks > Manage Bookmarks > Tools > Export
    * Import the HTML file in Firefox:
Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import HTML: From File

  • My Firefox will not open at all. I can't even get in to my user Profile to change that and see if it helps. All of my bookmarks and passwords are saved there!

I did a Windows update this am. As soon as that was completed, my Firefox froze and wouldn't respond at all. I had to close it out. After I tried to reopen it, and it won't open at all. I try to uninstall it to reinstall and it says "Firefox must be closed to complete this task". I checked in my task manager and Firefox isn't running any more. I have shut down the computer a few times. I even did a restore to a previous day, and it still doesn't work. I am so stressed out. All of my passwords and bookmarks are saved there! Please help

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!

  • I installed Firefox setup 4.0 RC 1 , in this process I lost all my bookmarks and the passwords saved on various pages . What should I do to recover it.

I just want to recover my bookmarks ... please help.

I will repeat a post I have just made:
See [[lost bookmarks]] and as a cautionary tale with a happy ending the [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/787020#answer-141048 thread] ''"I deleted by mistake bookmarks by uninstalling the previous version of Firefox beta 4.011b... Is there anyway to recover them? "''
Sorry to hear of your problems and hope reading the other posts helps you with what may well be a very similar problem.

  • Can someone help me find a way to import my bookmarks into Firefox 4.0?

I've recently suffered a computer crash. I had everything saved on an external hard drive, and now I'm trying to import the places.sqlite that supposedly holds the bookmarks into Firefox. Firefox refuses to recognize this file. I have seen this question posted many times, but no good answer to it. This is an easy drag and drop task for IE. Why can the same not be said for Firefox?

Unfortunately, yes I did read that article. I tried importing the places.sqlite file from the Library. The places.sqlite file wouldn't even show up so I could select it when I went to import it. I also tried dragging and dropping it into the right place, but the bookmarks wouldn't show when I restarted Firefox. I've wasted hours on this, and I'm pretty frustrated. I don't know what the problem is. I've seen other posts about this same problem, but I haven't seen anyone say why the places.sqlite file refuses to import.

  • How can I import/restore bookmarks to firefox from another computer/browser with bookmark icons included?

When you import bookmarks from Firefox or another browser into Firefox in a separate computer the bookmarks get imported fine, however their icons get disappeared. You have to click on every single bookmark in order to load its corresponding icon!
Note: The Google Chrome does not have this issue. The bookmark and their icons get imported to Chrome without further clicking on the imported bookmarks.

You would have to copy the places.sqlite file or possibly import an HTML backup (bookmarks.html) to get the favicons.
A JSON backup doesn't include the favicons, so in that case you need to visit each bookmarked site.

  • How to import /export bookmarks in Firefox for Mac

I wanted to export my bookmarks in Firefox for Mac, in htm or pdf format. Cant find any command for that. Nor any import from htm or pdf. Nor can I list all my bookmarks aplhabetically ; I have lots of bookmarks in different folders and I want to see all these bookmarks listed with no folders.

In Firefox for OS X, you can export your Bookmarks to HTML via the Bookmarks dialouge window.
Open your Bookmarks dialouge via the Menu bar: Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks.
When the new window has opened, this is what you can do to export your Bookmarks: https://support.mozilla.org/media/uploads/images/2012-09-16-05-44-02-10bc19.png (or view the image attachment).

  • I was using Delicious to keep my bookmarks accross different computers. Delicious doesn't seem to be accessible from Firefox 4. How can I import my bookmarks into Firefox bookmarks? Or do you have another solution to access them?

how do i access my delicious bookmarks with Firefox 4.0?

To revert to the previous secure version which is 3.6.19, please do the following:<br><br>
#Go to [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html Download Firefox v3.6.19] and download it to the desktop.<br><br>
#Then go to Add/Remove Programs, scroll down to "Mozilla Firefox" and remove it, choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc., (''don't checkmark the box'').<br><br>
#Then reboot and delete the folder called "Mozilla Firefox" at this location: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox<br><br>
#Finally run the installation file you downloaded to the desktop earlier.<br>
Your bookmarks, customizations etc., are maintained in a different location and will become available to you again once you complete the installation.<br><br>
Having said that, it's always wise to have a backup handy just in case. So please do the following.<br><br>
#Click the orange Firefox button and choose "''Bookmarks''", then "''Show All bookmarks''" to open the Bookmarks Manager.<br><br>
#Click the link to ''Import and Backup'' at the top.<br><br>
#Click "'''Export HTML'''" and save the file somewhere.<br><br>
After you complete the installation, please go to the [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/ Plugins Check] page and update where necessary.
