Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.

You can get a shutdown like that if the computer gets too hot. Make sure the air intakes on the bottom and the exhaust vent on the top are clean and are not blocked by something in your workspace like papers or the back of the computer being too close to part of the furniture. You need a good six inches (15cm) of clearance between the exhaust slot and other objects or surfaces.
Anti-virus/internet security software, especially the "pay for" kinds, can increase operating temps. So can third-party backup software furnished with many "name-brand" external hard drives.
Fan motors and/or temperature sensors can fail. If you have the original grey disks that shipped with your iMac, find the on that has Apple Hardware Test (AHT) and run it. If you have a failed heat sensor or fan motor, it will detect it with an error code containing "SNS" if it's a bad sensor or "MOT" if its a bad fan motor.

HT203176 my computer hangs frequently - rolling beach ball - apparently some endless loops - I have repaired the permissions countless times but the problem continues - the faulty permissions include java virtual machine and language libraries

I get the rolling beach ball frequently when using a browser -I have repaired the permissions a number of times - each time I do this - the same issues show up- language libraries, java virtual machine etc - after a restart the btowser works for awhile and then hangs again - i trashed both Chrome and Firefox and am now using Safari and Opera - neither of which work very fast and I still get a frozen screen - rolling beach ball - have to force quit.On the activity monitor it shows that the browser I am using has several hangs.
Aside from reinstalling everything - is there a fix for this?

Those Permissions errrors will keep appearing. They are not errors; ignore them. Your problem has nothing to do with Permissions repair. Many possible causes, one of which may be A-V. Do you have any A-V installed?
What does Disk Utility show for SMART Status for the drive? Verify the Disk.
Open Activity Monitor>CPU tab. Anything hogging the CPU when the slowdowns occur? Switch to the Memory tab. What does it show for free and inactive? Also, Page ins, Page outs and Swap used?'
How many applications open concurrently when this happens?
How much drive free space? You should maintain at least around 20-30GB.

But i really wonder how you did that. did you always switch between design view and preview view, then change the key position for 2px then switch back, to align the four letters? because i imagine that can get really frustrating, if you have a logo consisting of 58 parts instead of 4!:)

I have an ipod touch 1st gen 32 GB. It stops playing music randomly. The battery has been replaced and I've tried restoring iOS 3.1.3 as a clean install but the problem persists. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

The battery died so I had it replaced. Now it stops playing music (It was doing this before with the old battery when plugged into power cable)... it won't even make it through a whole track. I have tried turning off and on, turned off autolock and restored several times to 3.1.3 with no apps, just music but the problem persists.

Thank you for the speedy reply! I suspected it to be a hardware fault but found a lot of people online had experienced the same problem. What should I do? Obviously it is well out of warranty and the battery is literally brand new. Seems a sad waste if it cannot be repaired. I've yet to find a definitive answer or what to do, be it contact Apple etc....

RAM Problems after update and Restart. 3 beeps with led. Memories and Slots work alone, but together the problem continues.

I make some updates and restart my Macbook Pro, and the screen became Grey with 3 beeps with Led.
I read it could be the RAM memory. So I opened it and tried to reconected them.. but the problem continues.. So I asume it was one of the memories or one of the Slots... But when I tried them separetly all the Slots and memories worked... But togheter the problems continues.
Any suggestion?
The Mac worked perfect! There where just some updates...and before the restart, a pop up appeared saying that the updates could not be done because of an error... after that... the restart, the grey screen, and the 3 beeps with 3 leds.

Have you tried putting back the original memory and seeing if that works?
Also if you could tell us the mode of the MBP, how much memory was in it and what you are upgrading to it would help.

Do a search with Spotlight for ".plist" (without the quotes). In that list (should be very long) there should be a file named com.apple.itunes.plist. Delete that file by dragging it from the Spotlight list to the Trash. Don't worry if you drag the wrong file and delete it, as these are preference files that recreate themselves when you launch an application.

1) Apps are not part of the backup, only data stored by 3rd party apps. But you can redownload the apps for free again if you use the same account you did when you bought them the first time. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519

3) Backup your itunes+ library (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1382 and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751), which will copy your Mobile Applications folder, and save your iphone backup folder as well
In other words, maintaining a backup of your computer is essential.
