This is very confusing. I am a new iPod user. Also, some of my music files have scrambelled. HELP!

Well, I managed to fix the problem thru sheer brute force so I figured I would at least pass along what I did in case someone else has this issue. Evidently, doing an in-place upgrade does not work so as a last resort I used "Restore", cleared the Ipod, reloaded everything back on and the playback positions are now working again in music and video. Something screwy must have happened during the upgrade and just needed to start over. Still trying to reload everything (they REALLY need a mass backup feature for photos/music/videos) but looks like it will work.

If you recently updated your iPhone to iOS7, you will need to update iTunes on your computer to iTunes 11.1 or newer for it to correctly recognize the iPhone. You may find the following link helpful:

On the iPhone tap Settings > iCloud
Switch Contacts off then back on then reset the device.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

For your addressbook, export the files to vCard on the PowerMac, then bring them over to your Mac Pro. For your iPhoto, copy the Users -> yourname -> Pictures folder to your Desktop on the Mac Pro, and open iPhoto on the Mac Pro holding the command and option keys. Select the library file from that Pictures folder and open it. It should import all the pictures into iPhoto as part of the rebuild process. Usually, the exclamation mark tells you that the song was not where the program expected to find it. It may also mean that there was an error with the file itself.
   If you click on the exclamation mark, it may give you a reason. You can also double click the file to make it play. If the file is not found, it will tell you. Just follow the prompts to look for the song again. It will ask you if you want to look for the other missing songs in the same folder. You can do it, but unfortunately, the last few updates have made the program blind to the songs that are there and you sometimes have to do the same process for each song.
   If neither of these help, I would suggest starting from scratch and reinstalling iTunes. I have had to do that before. Do your best to back up the library and such first.
   Sometimes a computer will rename a hard disk (Windows) and all the songs on that disk will be gone to iTunes because it will think it's looking in the right place. It can't recognize that the hard disk or partition has been renamed.
I know that this is a podcast, but the principle is the same. A dialogue box should pop up to tell you just what the problem is.

Just what it says - install os 10.6.5 before proceeding further. You can either do so through Software Update or use the Combo update from Apple's download site.
You should repair permissions and restart your computer prior to updating and upgrading.

Your 1st gen shuffle... It's the white one with USB plug, that looks like a USB flash drive...?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. When you right (control) click on the disk and click eject "disk name", do you pull it immeadiatly or wait a few seconds for it to unmount? Try waiting and see if you get the same message. If you do, when the disk is connected go to applications/utilities/disk utility, after opening DU, select the volume in question from the left side bar and try a permissions repair, you may also run verify disk and see if it comes up with any errors (they will be in red)

Neither my local computer consultant nor I have been ableto change any of the settings in Time Machine to correct this problem. Working with the choices in the TimeMachine, there does not appear that there is any way to change the frequency ofthe backups either, so, after a year has elapsed, the time capsule is full, andmy only choice appears to be to erase all the current data on the Time Capsuleand start over, something that I do not want to at all let alone repeat on anannual basis. My questions are:
What can be done to have my Time Capsule delete old filesas it is supposed to do, so it has memory available to allow my computers toback up?
Is this a software problem that can be fixed online or isdoes this require a mechanical fix of defective hardware?

How much data is being backed-up from each Mac? (see what's shown for Estimated size of full backup under the exclusions box in Time Machine Prefs > Options).
Is there any other data on your Time Capsule, besides the backups?
Most likely, there just isn't room. Time Machine may be trying to do a very large (or full) backup of one or both Macs, and can't. Since it won't ever delete the most recent backup, there has to be enough room for one full backup plus whatever it's trying to back up now, plus 20% (for workspace).
