I installed Adobe Digital Edition on my Mac and when I try to open an ePub showing in the library, Adobe Digital Edition shuts down.

I tried re-installing the software but it continues to shut down when I open the ePub. Is there something else I can try?

I have a mac osx version 10.9.2. I used to have the student version of creative cloud cs6 earlier this year. I cancelled my subscription several months ago and bought cs5 two weeks ago. I never had any problems with the cloud. When I try to open the Adobe software, it asks from the Redemption Code when on an Adobe web site. The instructions that came in the download say that this is a 24 digit code of numbers and letters. The only thing I got from Amazon was an Order Key, which is also 24 digits, but only numbers and the software didn't like that code… I walked through the steps on the Adobe web site to get my redemption code, but the final step before giving me my redemption code is to enter my redemption code… I have to enter the code for them to give me the code…??? Am I missing something??? Do I get this "Redemption Code" from Amazon, or from Adobe?

You would get the redemption code, or perhaps even the serial number, from whomever you purchased the software from, apparently Amazon, so talk to them. This wouldn’t be the first time they’ve sold something that didn’t have all the numbers needed to license it.
A redemption code is something that is usually on the inner disc packaging if you purchase the media in a box, and there is a barcode on the outside of the packaging that must be scanned at the checkout register to activate the hidden inner code so you can redeem it at home on that website. This is what happens if you buy PSE from a brick-and-mortar store like Best Buy. I don’t’ know what happens if you purchase the downloaded version as I have never done that.
A redemption code is 24-digits of letters and numbers that you enter into a website to get a serial number, once and only once. The serial number of only 24-digits, no letters, is what you enter into the software during the install or when you run it and it asks if you want to register or run in a trial mode—whatever the exact phrasing is.
In any case it sounds like you don’t have either a redemption code or serial number—although perhaps something is listed on the purchase confirmation or your account online at Amazon or even in an e-mail from Amazon.

It is possible that the download did not finish completely or that the download file has been corrupted.
I would recommend downloading the application again and reinitiating installation.

FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
1. Turn off iPad
2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
5. Release Home button.
ON COMPUTER
6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
7. Select "Restore iPad"...
Note:
1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
3. Repeat the process if necessary.

I'm having a similar problem...but mine results from an OS upgrade from 10.6.4 to 10.8.5.
Where did you access a clean copy of Java SE 6? The link at adobe for archicval plug-ins is a dead download (and it doesn't appear to contain Java SE 6.).

Could you see whether Firefox will start in its Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
Here's how:
With Firefox closed, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox.
A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset).

I have the same problem as Pam101. I am on OS X 10.9 and Safari 7 (actually on 2 iMacs). The one iMac is fine but the other with the same versions and settings Adobe Reader will not work. What happens is the Adobe Reader icon appears on the dock, bounces once and that's it. If you haven't already done so, then try closing the Message app via the taskbar and see if it works when you re-open the app : from the iPad's home screen double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Message app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.
