I installed iLife 11 on my iMac wth 10.6.8, but it appears nowhere. How do I find out where it is installed?

When I search on Spotlight for the installed iLife 11, it appears in Applications only as an install disk.

You should have iMovie, iDVD, iWeb, iPhoto, and GarageBand in your Applications folder. iLife is a software suite and not a single application.

  • How do I find out if iPhoto is installed on my new computer?

After visiting the Apple website section which discusses migrating from a PC to a Mac. Working out how to copy photo's from a PC to a Mac (easy) I have one question. Why am I told to use iPhoto to view pictures if it doesn't come installed with my Macbook Pro?
I'm guessing I'd have to get iLife 08 to get iPhoto. I don't believe it's worth it. What would you recommend instead?
In general can you guys ame a good Freeware Mac sofware website?
    Regards,
    Bobspizza

Basically, but there are a few ways to narrow it down and save some time. PLUS, you do not want to be installing the system again (that could lose you data if you select the wrong one).
When the disk appears on the desktop, look in the panel for a brown file (you may have to scroll down a bit). This is a "package". It is marked "Bundled Software".
Double click on that and you will get some options. All you need to select are the parts of iLife that are not already on your system (and before you do this, please do check again -- the application should be in the Applications folder and you should see others in there like iMovie, iSync and iTunes).
Also, have a look in the Pictures folder to see if you have an iPhoto library file there.
Once you have selected those that you want to install, click the button at the bottom, and you should be asked for the Admin. password.

  • [SOLVED] How do I find out what packages are installed in a distro?

Okay. I was running Arch before, but GNOME had a bunch of problems that I couldn't fix myself, so I reformatted and went to Peppermint OS (it's a cloud-based system), and I absolutely love it. Now, the thing is, it's even slower than my Arch system was running GNOME, and it's supposed to be super-lightweight and speedy; but aside from that, I found it's a great distro (I think most of the slowdown is because it's based on Ubuntu and Mint). So, my question: how do I find out which packages are in Peppermint OS so I can emulate the basic environment, except with Arch underneath? Thanks, guys!

Okay, I guess an hour of Googling wasn't enough, but I just found a site that tells me how to do it! I'll mark this solved, but for anyone else who wants to know, the info is right here: http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/find-out-i … -in-linux/ It uses dpkg, which I think is only used on Debian-based systems (correct me if I'm wrong) so it may not work for all distros, but it's a start.

I am trying to install a registered copy of Photoshop Lightroom that I never installed on my Apple iMac with software version 10.10.
I get the message “Adobe Lightroom 1.  Cannot be installed on this disk because a newer version of this software already exists on this disk”
If it is here – I cannot find it anywhere, and I don’t believe that I ever installed it.
I have ordered the upgrade to Lightroom 5.0 and figured that I should install Lightroom 1.0 first.
How can I solve this problem

Actually when LR 5 starts for the first time after it is installed it will have a dialog to Buy, Try or Enter a serial number. You select Enter a serial number and enter the LR 5 serial number first and then because it is an upgrade serial number it will ask for the serial number of a Previous version. You then enter the LR 1 serial number.

  • How can I find out the age of my imac

How can I find out the age of my computer to see if it will be able to download latest operating system

Open System Profiler in Utilities folder. Look for the Model ID on the right. Then see the following:
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

  • How can I find out if I have a Superdrive in my iMac?

How can I find out if I have a Superdrive for burning DVDs. And if I don't can anyone recommend a good external DVD burner?

This forum is not intended for iMac posts...
    However,
    Look in AppleSystemProfiler.
The optical drive is listed in different places depending on your OS, in Panther it will be under ATA BUS
If you have an iMac G4, you can buy & install the same internal drives that are used in desktop G4's.
In the UK, the NEC ND-4550A is one inexpensive option. It is better to go with an internal drive, and significantly cheaper than external.
You can read owner reviews @ xlr8yourmac's Drive Compatibility database. Choose "DVD+R/RW + DVD-R/RW Drives" as Drive Type

  • How do I find out wich jre an already installed iWS6SP2 installation uses?

Our systems (sun netras with Solaris8) have several java runtimes installed.
    JDK 1.3.1 resides in /usr/j2se
    JDK 1.2.2 resides in /usr/java1.2
    /usr/java is a link to /usr/java1.2
When I installed iWS 6.0SP1 I had the install skip the java runtime installation, and instead specified /usr/j2se as the location of the runtime to use.
    Checking <serverroot>/https-admserv/start-jvm it contains
    NSES_JDK=/usr/j2se; export NSES_JDK
In <serverroot>/<instanceroot>/config for each of my server instances exists a jvm12.conf file. This file contains a commented out line:
    #jvm.option=-Xbootclasspath:/usr/j2se/lib/tools.jar:/usr/j2se/jre/lib/rt.jar
What is the purpose of this line?
Also several of the server instances have classpaths defined in their jvm12.conf that refer to /usr/java1.2, not /usr/j2se.
    My questions:
    - How do I find out what jre is effectively used by my webserver?
    - How does this effect the stability of my webservers. I have problems with hangs, and am unable to shutdown the server using the admin interface.

    Hi,
1.How do I find out what jre is effectively used by my webserver?
You can find out which version of "jre" has been used
    by checking /<server root>/https-admserv/start-jvm
    file.
    http://knowledgebase.iplanet.com/ikb/kb/articles/7356.html
I would recommend you to test with JDK version 1.2.2_010.
2."I have problems with hangs, and am unable to shutdown the server using the admin interface."
Please let me know your error log and access log at the time of server hangs.

How can i find out who is using my internet connection on other devices, i have tried internet preferences, but it dont tell me who is connected to internet.

That has nothing to do with OS X or your iMac, if you think someone has been using your Internet connection then you need to turn on the security on your WI-FI router. Please look in the owners manual of your router for instructions.

  • How to find out if JRE is installed on a Win32 system?

    Hi,
does anyone know a good and reliable way to find out if JRE is installed on a Windows system? I want to start a JAR file but don't want to appear the "select program to start with"-chooser box when there's no JRE. Most unexperienced users give up at this point and delete my application. I'd rather let a popup-message appear that says something like "You need Java - download it here for free ...<link>".
Maybe a script file? Or a small C++ program that only checks if Java is installed and then starts the application (or gives out the popup). And how to check for an existing JRE?
I know about Webstart but have no server at hand...
    Thanks!!!

    Try JSmooth ( http://jsmooth.sourceforge.net/ ). It's a Java executable wrapper.
    From the website:
When the user clicks on the .exe, the windows application search the most suitable JVM installed on the computer to launch the java application. If no JVM is found, a dialog box is displayed to the users and they may be redirected to a web site (to www.java.com for example).
Even if you don't use it as it is you can learn from it, because JSmooth is Open Source.
