I installed iTunes 11.1.5 and it's not "seeing" my iphone 5s that's running IOS 7.1. I don't know what to do. Am I the only one having this issue? I would like to add some music to my phone, and make a back up copy of my phone to my computer, but I can't do anything.
Have you tried a couple of USB cables? And are you using the original cable that came with your phone?

I'm baffled. The current iTunes (11.0.4) runs on OS X 10.6.8. If I were you, I would download the current iTunes:
iTunes 11.0.4
... and see if that solves your issue.
... but note your MacBook Air late 2010 can run Mountain Lion, so that would undoubtedly solve the problem for you, whether or not simply loading iTunes does. -

I have the iPhone 4 running on iOS 6.1.3, my iPhoto sees the phone as a digital camera. iTunes how ever does not see my iPhone so that I can sync them together, I've had my phone for about 2 months and have my tech friends look into this and tried everything but reformatting my MacBook Pro. Does anyone know how I can get my iPhone to set up as a new phone on my laptop or to at least get iTunes to see my phone? Please help.

You can continue to use the current AppleID for iTunes, but your husband can create a new AppleID to use to create a new iCloud account that will be his own and not overlap with yours. If you do not have another email address to use for an AppleID, just get a free Gmail account and use that.
You can have as many AppleIDs as you want (or at least, as many as you have email addresses for). You can use a separate AppleID for the store, another for iCloud, and even another for iMessage if you wish.
You will want to keep the current one as the shared one for the store as all your previous purchases are permanently tied to it, and thus you need that AppleID to update or redownload your current purchased content. -

You might consider itunes match for moving CDs you've copied into your itunes library if you dont have a way to use home sharing.
iTunes match is an optional service offered by apple that costs about $25 a year. It scans your music library and if it finds music that is already in apple's itunes catalog it'll automatically "unlock"/"store" these in the cloud for you. I am installing itunes to a laptop and have not sync device to this lap. It is saying that it must first restore device. The problem is I have over 2000 pictures and don't want to lose them. Now my phone is in restore mode and I don't know what to do. I don't want to proceed and loose these very important photos of family. What do I do to get it out of restore mode? My phone will not allow me to do anything to it at this point. I have the itunes downloaded on the laptop now. When I push the button for the phone it just shows Itunes and plug. I can't even call or open phone up.

Using a computer, other than the one you have regularily been Syncing and Backing up to, was the begining of your issue. -
