I installed Spyware Doctor with antivirus and Firefox will not open but goes into Not Responding mode

After installing PC Tools spyware doctor with antivirus Firefox will not launch. I get a black screen with a not reponding message at the the top. I have tried an earlier version of Firefox (5) and this launch OK until I closed it and then it too refused to launch.

Hit the '''Alt''' key to show the Menu bar, then open View > Toolbars and select Menu bar and Navigation bar, so they have a check-mark.

  • I installed Chrome and uninstalled it, and Firefox will only open in Safemode after this.

    I installed Chrome, then I uninstalled chrome, and now Firefox only opens in safe mode. I have XP, and Firefox just updated itself to 3.6.8 despite the safe mode. I still use it functionally, but it's annoying. Yes, I am sure it is in safe mode, because the little box that says it is in safe mode pops up offering to disable things. It does not affect how Firefox runs at all (well, oddly, FF seems more stable, but it might have been the upgrade, too).
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == I installed Chrome.

    i deleted the rdf and now the first window only (and any tabs in it) are maximised. i found this in the rdf
    <RDF:Description RDF:about="chrome://browser/content/browser.xul#main-window"
    screenX="4"
    screenY="4"
    width="1008"
    height="461"
    sizemode="Normal" />
    i tried changing normal to maximised; no effect. either i need also to change the numbers (to match a maximised window) or ff ignores this. i want to be able to open different sites in different windows, and not have to maximise them manually. ff never used to be broken, why break this? what possible security flaw was fixed by screwing up ff to never open maximised unless u hack it or delete certain config files?

  • I am going bloody mad as three times now I have reloaded my iphone 4 with 30 gigs of music and when I even try and add a new album, it goes into massive sync mode and then looses the lot! I retore to earlier that day and practically nothing.

    I have now 3 times added nearly 30 gigs of music onto this **** Iphone 4, then when it decides by itself to sync it goes into a massive re-sync then looses the lot. I restore it and in iTunes It shows that the music is on my phone, but nothing works and then it reverts to about 60megs of music and the **** lot has gone again. I am really getting upset that I can spend 12 hours adding the music back on only for it all to disappear in 12 seconds and wont come back again. I have manage music and videos ticked and all the music is ticked in my library, I have tried un-ticking and re-ticking but it simply does not work. please can anyone help as I am at the point of binning Apple for Samsung as its happening to lots of people I know with nothing coming from Apple on why?
    Thanks
    Steve

    You have fallen for the great Verizon Wireless Lie, most customers don't use over 2Gb and its a better plan, and unlimited is unsustainable yada yada yada.
    However your choices were getting new devices for cheap so if you paid full price for your device at $700 each, you would have kept unlimited and paid no $30 upgrade fee. Per line.
    Now add up the additional cost of that data usage and it is way over the cost of what paying full price would have cost you.
    and being in a contract with an early termination fee it all adds up.
    Verizon claims unlimited data is unsustainable, but you can see its sustainable only when you get charged mucho bucks in $10-$15 overages per GB.
    Good Luck

  • I can't update firefox , it downloads , but won't work cos it thinks firefox is already open, but it's not any clues please ?

    I get the prompt to update , It actually downloads but when i try to install it rejects saying firefox is open in another instance close this and try again . ( I have checked my windows task manager and it definitely not running )

    You no longer need the 4 digit code in iTunes 11.
    iTunes (10.0.1 or later)
    Open iTunes on your Mac or PC.
    iTunes 11 or newer: Turn on Home Sharing in iTunes by going to File > Home Sharing> Turn on Home Sharing.
    iTunes 10.7 or older: Turn on Home Sharing in iTunes by going to Advanced > Turn on Home Sharing.
    Connect iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to a Wi-Fi network that is connected to the local network that your Mac or PC is also connected to.
    Open the Remote app (software version 2.0 or later) on your mobile device.
    Turn on Home Sharing in the Remote Settings screen. Make sure to sign into the same Home Sharing account you used to sign in to from iTunes on your computer.
    Once Home sharing is enabled for both your computer and your mobile device, Remote app will be be able to view and control audio and video playback in your iTunes library.

    says also only one firefox can be opened at a time. Currently cannot get firefox open at all.

  • Problems with Safari and Firefox (HTTP?)

    Problems with Safari and Firefox (HTTP?)
    On a laptop G4, 10.5.8 and Safari 5.02 I experience the following:
    On the account of my oldest daughter everything works fine, i.e. wireless internet works and no problems with mail or safari.
    On the same laptop, on the account of my other daughter, the wireless is OK, she can mail etc. But safari nor firefox works. It says: can’t find server (whatever site) and in the activity window it looks if safari tries to open files (in the safari preferences-folder) in stead of http. Same applies to Firefox, so maybe it has more to do with HTTP in general?
    What goes wrong? What to do? I tried the following on the host terminal (tips from Apple)
    defaults write com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled -boolean false
    and
    defaults delete com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled
    but that did not help,
    Nanne

    I'm still wondering why it happens now at this moment in time...
    PC does seem to be a bit odd & inconsistent, the few times I've tested with it, at least so far as we content filtering goes; and if I remember rightly, you're not the first to report previously ok settings suddenly preventing some or all internet until pc is switched off altogether.
    It may work when re-enabled

  • Java Plug-in / JSObject support with IE and Firefox

    Hi there,
    Basicaly, the idea behind is to write objects in Java to replace or extend functionnalities of a web page (like XMLHttpRequest object). Those objects should support event handler writen in Javascript.
    My first idea was to create JavaBeans and instantiate them through OBJECT tags in HTML (not as ActiveX objects). I don't find a way to instatiate a Javabean which was not also an applet.
    Does someone knows how to ?
    Anyway, the OBJECT tag may not work with Netscape. So, I went to use the APPLET tag with the Sun Java Plug-in.
    I've made some tests with IE and Firefox and there is at least two differences between them (both use the Sun Java Plug-in) :
    1/ Firefox / JSObject
    When you pass a Javascript object to a Java method, it seems that you
    cannot use methods like 'getMember', 'call', etc on this object.
    (invocation of the method works but returns null)
    But, if you access the same object form inside Java starting by
    JSObject.getWindows(...) and so on, it works fine.
    IE works in all cases.
    Example, with the Java applet and HTML below :
    . Java applet :
    | package JavaJS;
    |
    | import netscape.javascript.*;
    |
    | public class FirefoxApplet
    |        extends java.applet.Applet {
    |   netscape.javascript.JSObject win = null;
    |
    |   public void init() {
    |     win = netscape.javascript.JSObject.getWindow(this);
    |   }
    |
    |   public Object getJSObjectMember( netscape.javascript.JSObject jso, String member ) {
    |     return jso.getMember(member);
    |   }
    |
    |   public netscape.javascript.JSObject getJSObjectFromPath( String jsoPath ) {
    |     String [] jsoNames = jsoPath.split("\\.");
    |     netscape.javascript.JSObject jso = win;
    |
    |     for( int i = 0; ( i < jsoNames.length ); i++ )
    |       jso = (netscape.javascript.JSObject)jso.getMember(jsoNames);
    |
    | return jso;
    | }
    |
    | public Object getJSObjectPathMember( String jsoPath, String member ) {
    | return getJSObjectMember(getJSObjectFromPath(jsoPath),member);
    | }
    | }

    2/ Internet Explorer / JSObject
    As we have seen in the previous example, passing Javascript object to
    an applet method works. Here, the problem comes when a Javascript object
    is pass to a method that's not an applet's method.
    If within the applet, you instantiate a new Java object and then
    call from Javascript a method on this object with a Javascript object as
    parameter then an Exception is raised when invoking that method.
    Firefox works fine here.
    Example, with the Java applet and HTML page below :
    . Java applet :
    | package JavaJS;
    |
    | public class IEApplet extends java.applet.Applet {
    |
    |   public void init() {
    |   }
    |
    |   public Object echo( Object object ) {
    |     return object;
    |   }
    |
    |   public Object newEcho() {
    |     return new Echo();
    |   }
    | }
    . Java Echo class
    | package JavaJS;
    |
    | public class Echo {
    |
    |   public Echo() {
    |   }
    |
    |   public Object echo(Object object) {
    |     return object;
    |   }
    | }
    . HTML page :
    | <HTML>
    |   <HEAD>
    |     <TITLE>IEApplet</TITLE>
    |     <META http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">

    in a Java object with an applet method and then use this Java object as
    parameter.
    Anyway, my questions are : regarding points 1/ and 2/ are these bugs with the Sun Java Plug-in ? or someone could explain these behaviors ?
    Thanks for your reading.

    Look in your Applications folder.  If your system behaved as expected, you should have an iMovie 9.0 folder in your Applications folder.  Apple moved the old version there as even they suspected the new versions was a train wreck.

    Intuit's Quicken won't work with Lion.  Installed and am using Quicken Essentials but it's not as convenient.

    this has been an issue with Quicken for a long time! Quicken was initially a Mac only application and then they got greedy! i beta-tested Quicken for Intuit for years and when they announced they were not going to support it any more the screaming was loud but not heard!
    Quicken Essentials is a crime! i wasn't even asked to beta-test it; probably because they would have gotten an earful!!! it is not essential; it is stupid.... AND, of course, their online version was a disaster. i use Quickbooks Online for business and it works like a charm; i mean it even downloads ignominious PayPal transactions now!
    i am also stupid for not really checking out if it would work with Lion - ALL of my financials are on it. I am going to have to do what @cwiens suggested above and either pull out an old Macbook I have or my well stored original Cube in its original box! thank the fates for the double backup i've always done with Quicken - Time Machine & its own key drive!
    btw, this is an old Microsoft trick - not having older versions of apps work on OS updates so they force you to buy the new versions.
