I installed the system update to 10.7.3. After re-booting, my mail file was missing from the dock. Looked in applications and the mail application is missing. Any thoughts?

Thanks Paul; but, taking your suggestion didn't solve the problem. As mail is part of the OS, the updates don't have the capacity to reinstall applications; so, I had to reinstall the OS. I now have my mail back (although it didn't appear on the dock--I had to go to applications and activate it and then put it back in the dock. Thanks again for trying.

If the OS X 10.2 on the hard drive is/was bootable, try this -
Restart or boot, then immediately press the X key, keep it held down until you know the machine has started to boot using OS X. This is a hardware instruction to the Mac to boot using the first usable instance of OS X it finds.
Once booted to OS X, you should be able to move OS 9's System file into OS 9's System Folder.
Note - in general, unless you know for sure what you are doing and that the results are desired, do not relocate or rename files in OS 9's System Folder or in OS X's System or Library folders.

Do you mean that it is carrier locked?
You would have to contact the carrier to which it is locked and see if they offer unlocking and if you qualify.
Or does "won't work" mean something else?

Last night I wiped the phone and did a complete restore. Lo and behold the wifi was working again after the restore finished. GREAT. 30 minutes later went to look at the phone and no wifi again, great!
So if my wifi chip coincidentally fried itself during the update, I supposed it coincidentally unfried itself during the restore, only to fry itself again later. Clever chips these.

If you are wondering why you are not getting any responses, it is because you have vented a complaint without any details that make any sense or give anyone something to work on.
If you want help, I suggest actually detailing what has happened, with versions of software etc. Anything that would let us assist.
As a start I am guessing that you have not really got the hang of "How it all works". Firstly download the Pages09_UserGuide.pdf from under the Help menu. Read that and view the Video Tutorials in the same place. A good addition would be the iWork 09 Missing manual book and something to help you learn how to use your Mac.

The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.

I have a ThinkPad X40. I tried to reformat it using the recovery partition, but that failed... great system huh? Anyway, i installed Windows XP using a different CD and i tried to install the ThinkVantage System Update and got an Error 1722.
There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A progam run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action StartSuService.EXE, location: ...\startsuservice.exe "
It had placed an executable entry in my start menu, so i tried to run it and got "A problem occured while loading the system update......" which seems to have been experienced by a lot of people. Looks like i'm at a dead end here as well... So far the Laptop has been fine with everything apart from lenovo software...
Any help would be greatly appreciated,

I've installed a system update as requested, 10.6.7 but mail is not working now.

I've installed a system update yesterday as requested, all software works fine, except Mail - I get the following message You have mail version 4.5 (1084/1082), it cant be used on Max OSX Version 10.6.7 (Build 10J869). I've done a complete reinstall of my imac too, but this has not cleared the problem.

Please do this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and quit the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Upon satisfactory completion boot from your Snow Leopard DVD and resinstall Snow Leopard. Upon completion you may wish to update it to Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

It appears as a window with the following text, "System extension cannot be used. The system extension “/Library/Frameworks/PrivateTunnel.framework/Versions/Current/Extensions/tap.ke xt” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product's vendor for an update."
I close it by clicking "Ok", and it doesn't seem to affect the system performance in any way, but it's annoying knowing that it's there. The problem is quite old, and has persisted through several OSX updates.

Good timing! Oh well, at least you shouldn't have to update again for a while. It will be nice kickstarting your Mac with the very latest System Update knowing any hiccups from 10.8.2 would have been ironed out if they were going to affect your workflow at all.

Can't install Thinkpad System update 3.14

Hi everybody
I own a T60 with the latest Windows SP3. I tried to install the latest version of the Thinkpad system update and when it nearly finished, i had this error:
-There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A problem run as part of the setup did no finish as expected, Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action StartSuService.EXE, location: C:\Program Files\Lenovo\...\startupservice.exe
After that, i can start anyway the system update but it never install sucessfully my update.
Does anybody know any tricks to get over this problem?

I tried reinstall 4 to 5 times and redownload it 3 times so it was not that.
Anyway i found the problem. It was the services who had been( for unknown reason) desactivate:
So in services.msc i putted "System Update" to Automatic, then Start the services and it work.
Sorry for trouble and thank for the help !!

It's always change between these two versions: 12.8.10.1005 and 11.2.0.1006

Which version of windows are you using? I assume win7.
For version 12.8, on a w530, Win8 or win8.1 is required. Per readme.txt, version 12.8, on a w530 running win 7 IS NOT SUPPORTED.
Version 11.2 , runs on a W530, with xp/vista/win7.
Since you are win7, w530 version 11.2 is the correct version to use. You can tell Sytem Update to HIDE the version 12.8 offering. If you state your machine type (w530) and model number, Lenovo can check the Package bundle on the server and see if a bug exists in the Package.

Read the readme.txt link above. Follow the instructions stating how to determine which version is installed on your system. Please state the version you have installed on your machine.
