I just bought a new Macbook Pro and transferred my iTunes archive of music to it. How do I transfer the playlists from my other computer(s)? iTunes on the new machine wants to start from scratch.
How do I transfer playlists from my other Apple computer(s) to my new Macbook Pro? I think I have successfully moved the music (archive) but the new machine wants to start from scratch on the playlists.

Essentially you need to copy over the itunes folder
username/Music/itunes
Over to your macbookpro I suggest using an ethernet cable as it is way quicker. Put it in the same spot on the new Macbook Pro
username/music/
This should bring over the playlists etc. Then just put the music back in from the archive

Hello. I just bought a refurbished macbook pro and it did not come with any disks. Do I have to make my own bootable backup disk?

I just got a new macbook pro and transferred everything from my old macbook. My photos show up as thumbnails in iphoto, but if I click on them, a "?" pops up for all of them!
Copy the Library over manually.
To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else. -
I just bought a 2009 macbook pro with an os upgrade to lion. my question is how do i change the previous owners name (like when i bluetooth) to my name???
Your MBP should have been given to you with the original installation disks and OS. The Lion OS is licensed to the person who sold it to you. You will have create your own account and purchase Lion if you wish to use it. Those are the stipulations in the licensing agreements.

My daughter just purchased a macbook pro and it was wiped clean. It says we need to purchase Lion. How do we do that? We can't find it in the app store
It has a question mark inside the quick time logo everytime I click on it
If you mean you are trying to play a file and the QT icon with a quesion mark appears in the display area, then this means the play has reached a programming disjunction and doesn know what to do—i.e., the player recognizes the content but something is preventing proper playback is telling the user it has a question as to how the content is to be played. In such cases you normally have to determine what content, what file container, and which player version is involved before you can decide how to best fix the problem. -
I aquired my used MacBook Pro when entering college three years ago. When the IOS 7 iphone update came out yesterday I updated my iphone. After the update I attempted to sync my iphone to itunes on my MacBook Pro. When attempting to do this I recieved a pop-up that stated I would not be able to sync my iphone with IOS 7 to itunes until I downloaded itunes version 11.
I then visited the itunes site to download this version of itunes. When attempting the update, I recived a pop-up that stated I was unable to download this version of itunes because my MacBook Pro does not have IOS 6 installed.
I am not sure how to install IOS 6 or if my computer is able to update to IOS 6 since it was made in 2007. I occasionally have difficulties updating other programs because my computer is outdated and I was wondering if IOS 6 is the same.
Thanks for your help.It sounds like it is not allowing you to install the newest version of iTunes because you do not have OSX 10.6.8 installed. Click on the -> About This Mac and check the version number. If it is anything less than 10.6 you need to purchase Snow Leopard from Apple.

Title Basically sums it up.. is there anyway I can get those apps without having to pay for them..?
You and the original owner need to contact Apple Care and have the MBP released from his Apple ID. Then you can use OS X Recovery to erase the MBP, install the original version of the shipping OS X updated to the most recent version available and install new versions of the iLife apps that you can then accept into your Apple ID used with the Mac App Store.

I assume the MBP is new and you have Lion on it (10.7)?

I have a New MacBook Pro and am unable to open Word docx. What do I do?
I have a new macbook pro and can't convert any windows docx, xlsx, etc files
You need Office 2011. What version do you have installed? If the MB is new it did not come with Office pre-installed unless you purchased it along with the computer.

Hi, I've just bought a new Macbook Pro and started migrating from PC but the remaining time is about 70 hours long, I just wanted to know if that timing is normal and if not, does leaving running my MacBook that time can affect it?
70 hours... no, it's not normal but it can't hurt your Mac to be running for that amount of time.

Hi all, i just bought the new macbook pro and just want to know if i can install Vista or Xp on it?
Yes.
Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software. Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7. Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows. Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7. Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
3. VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7. VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows. The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
5. VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris. It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc. There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization. The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system.
See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows. You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive. -

Just bought a used MacBook pro after my previous died. I want to migrate my applications, data, etc from a time machine backup of the old computer to the new. Will this affect, or overwrite the Apps., data, etc existing on the new machine?
No. Only those Apps that are not installed on the new will migrate over.

i just bought a new Macbook Pro and loaded all my info from My old Macbook...now i can't remember for the life of me my Admin Password (which i created 3 years ago)...is there ANY WAY to bypass this on my new Macbook Pro and begin again...?
I assume that you don't have the installation discs, so:
1. Reboot
2. Hold command + s key down after you hear the chime.
3. When you get a text prompt enter in these terminal commands to create a brand new admin account (hitting return after each line):
(Type these commands very carefully)
mount -uw /
rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
shutdown -h now
4. You will go through the setup process again, create a new admin account, login to it and then change your existing account password or whatever else you need to do. You can delete the account you made in this process, or not. -
I just got a new MacBook Pro, and I tried to bring across my files from my last mac using time machine. After it was done copying I can't find my files anywhere but the space (about 130gb) has been used on my hard drive. Does anyone know how I can get to them? I did change my user name from 'user' while it was copying, could this have something to do with it?
You don't want to do that by copying.
Your best bet, by far, is to use Setup Assistant. If your Mac is running Snow Leopard, see Using Setup Assistant on Snow Leopard or Leopard.
If it came with Lion, it's a bit different: Using Setup Assistant on Lion

I have a legacy design using XC9572-7PC84C. We're still able to buy parts and are setting up a second CM to build boards for us. CM #1 is using an old XP computer with parallel port connected to DLC7 parallel programmer. I believe they're running v9.
