I just bought an Airport Express but it is only found by my Mac if right beside it. Am I missing something?

I just bought an Airport Express to stream music. I connected it to my wireless network. When I have it plugged in right beside the router and my Mac, it works. When I take it downstairs, it isn't found by iTunes Airplay or whatever it's called.
Am I missing something?

If you power down the AirPort Express for now and then temporarily move your laptop to the location where you plan to install the AirPort Express downstairs, what type of signal reception do you get there?  In other words, can you get a good, fast Internet signal on the laptop at that location?
Here, we assume that the AirPort Express will not be installed behind a cabinet or other furniture that would absorb a good deal of the WiFi signal.

  • I just bought an airport express and I am in the process of configuring but my mac does not detect any airport devise. internet is working wirelessly and the airport is plugged next to the mac. any clue how can I fix this?

I just bought an airport express but when trying to configure it my mac is not capable of detecting the devise. The airport is plugged right next to the modem and the wireless internet is running perfectly. does any one experience this before?

You don't mention what function you want the AirPort Express to accomplish.
If you are trying to configure it to "join" your existing wireless network, you need to know the exact type of security that your wireless network is using fo you can use that same information to provide the correct settings to the AirPort Express.
You may be getting a message that the settings have been stored successfully, but unfortunately the settings that you have provided to the Express are likely the wrong settings.
The only way that you really know if the settings that you entered were correct is if you get a green light 20-30 seconds after you click Update.  If you don't get a green light on the Express, the settings that you provided were not the correct settings.
When you click Update, the Express will "disappear". This is normal. Up until the time that you click update, AirPort Utility is communicating to the Express on a wireless network with a name like Apple Network xxxxxxx. As soon as you click Update, the Express switches (or tries to switch) to another network, so of course it will disappear from the AirPort Utility window.
As soon as you click Update, close AirPort Utility. There is no reason to keep watching a window when the Express will never appear.

    Is the status light green?
Your Airport device may be in Bridge Mode.
    Airport Utility 6:
Open Airport Utility, select the Airport Express and click Edit. Navigate to the Network tab and change Router Mode to DHCP and NAT. Then click Update on the bottom right.
    Airport Utility 5:
Open Airport Utility and click Manual Setup. Navigate to the Internet icon and change Connection Sharing to Share a Public IP Address. Then click Update on the bottom right.

I just bought an AirPort express. Currently I have a qwest wired router plugged into the back of my computer via an ethernet cable. Can I just unplug the ethernet cable and plug it into the AirPort express, then use the setup utility? Most of the discussions involve an existing wireless network. I don't have one.

Correct. That's the way to set up the AirPort Express. After connecting your AirPort Express to the router, open AirPort Utility (in /Applications/Utilities) and follow the steps

If you are trying to configure the AirPort Express using wireless, you must first log on to the wireless signal that the Express is broadcasting to establish a connection.
Look for a wireless network with a name like Apple Network xxxxxx where the "x" could be a number or letter. No password is required to log on.
Most folks find it easier to temporarily connect using an Ethernet able as stic suggests in his post....if you have one handy. Once the device is configured, you can disconnect the Ethernet cable.

  • I bought new apple TV but it open only in the menu few channel like korean channel. I think something wrong with my my Apple TV or maybe my server because I'm in kuwait please help

I bought new apple TV but it open only in the menu few channel like korean channel. I think something wrong with my my Apple TV or maybe my server because I'm in kuwait please help

Was it bought in an Apple store, as there is no product page for Apple TV in your location? If it was bought through another store make sure it was an authorized seller.
There are no apps stored on the device (except Computers and Settings), they are fed through a server and will differ depending on region. For example, there are many that are US only and some require connection to a cable provider. To change accounts and access another region you would need a valid address and credit card.

  • I just bought an AirPort Express and don't know how to use it... :P

Um... How can I use it to extend the range of my AirMac Extreme?
How can I use it as a stand-alone transceiver to establish another network?
And how can I just use it to make my printer go Wi-Fi?
Hey, don't blame me for laziness. I tried two days and still got no clue...
    :P

Um... How can I use it to extend the range of my AirMac Extreme?
Follow the directions in KB 302153, AirPort Express: How to join an existing wireless network in client mode.
Follow the directions in "Designing AirPort Networks" (http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/DesigningAirPortNetworks.pdf). The same directions apply for the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) and AirPort Express (AX).
And how can I just use it to make my printer go Wi-Fi?
In either of the above 2 configurations, simply connect the USB printer to the AX's USB port.

  • I have just bought an airport express and want to set it up as a base station to use in a hotel with my Ipad2.

At home I have a PC wired into a wifi router. How do I set up my airport express with this configuration please?

If you are on a Windows machine, you will need to download the Airport Admin Utility from Apple:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1391
From there, you can configure the Airport Express. Set up the Airport to:
    - create it's own network
    - share an IP
    - use 802.11n 2.4GHz (g,b compatible)
    - use WPA2 for security
Then, test that the iPad can connect to it.
Now, when you take it to a hotel and plug it into their wired network, the Airport will get the IP from the hotel and share it out to your iPad

  • Just bought my airport express today

now ive been reading the manual and i am worried as i would like to use all the features of the airport but i have certain problems which i dont want to risk. I have a macbook and a dell desktop PC. now the router and printer is connected to the main computer so my macbook just links to this network. does this mean that i have to set up the airport with the main PC or can i do it with my macbook for my itunes or can i use both?
    any help will be great!

I suggest that you temporarily connect the AXn directly to one of the available LAN ports on your other router, and then, use the AirPort Utility on either the MacBook or PC to make the configuration changes. (Note: The AirPort Utility will already be on the MacBook; you will need to install it from the CD that came with the AXn on the PC.)
Here are the basic set up steps ...
    AirPort > Wireless
o Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
    o Network Name: <existing wireless network>
o Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
o Wireless Password: <enter the existing wireless network password>
o Verify Password: <re-enter the existing wireless network password>
    Music
    o Enable AirTunes (checked)
o iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
    o iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
    o Verify Password: (optional)
o Click Update to write the new settings to the AX
    In iTunes:
    iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
o Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)

  • HT1338 I have just bought an iphone 5 but I can't sync as my mac and itunes are not compatible: I have loaded on the new software available, any idea's???

I have a mac mini 10.5.8  It is a little old and will not support the new iphone 5 for syncing etc.
Do I need to purchase new software i.e. snow leopard or can I download something that will allow me to get the new itunes etc????

    Hi, Notso Techie.
Syncing your iPhone 5 with iTunes will require Mac: OS X v10.6.8 or later.  You should be able to purchase Mac OS X 10.6 via the link below.

Do you mean to say you already have a wireless network setup and thought by buying the Airport Express you just could use it for wireless music alone?
The Airport Express is chiefly a wireless router first, with the wireless music and printing as extra's.
It can be used for streaming music alone, but I think it needs to talk to network time servers and thus it gets screwed up over time not being on the internet. Also by your using your computers wifi for music streaming, no internet with your other router.
So it's a all Airport Express or back to a stereo mini cable.

  • Will the Airport Express work with the iPhone minus a PC/mac? If so how??

I no longer have my mac mini but have a new PC. I also have a 2nd gen iphone with the 3.0 software. I just bought a airport express and thought I could, via bluetooth, use my iphone in leau of a computer to control my itunes thru the living room stereo system. In other words, use my iphone as both the itunes library and the controller for the living room setup. Can this work? Or do I have to still run it thru my PC? Someone with expierence with this please help!! My email address is [email protected] thanks, Bill.

I just bought a airport express and thought I could, via bluetooth, use my iphone in leau of a computer to control my itunes thru the living room stereo system.
No that is not possible. The iPhone connects to the AirPort Express (AX) via 802.11b/g not Bluetooth.
In other words, use my iphone as both the itunes library and the controller for the living room setup. Can this work?
No. There is no way to stream music wirelessly from the iPhone to the AX.
Or do I have to still run it thru my PC?
    Yes

  • HT1595 I have just bought apple tv which allows me to play music through airport express but when  chose to watch a movie the audio comes from the tv and does not give option listen through other speakers served through airport express. Can you help me ?

No, you cannot seperate the audio and video stream.
You can use optical audio to a sound system (I use sony sound bar) and play the audio via that.

  • I have bought an airport express after being assured that I will be able to print from my IPad. I have installed airport utility on my Hp laptop and it is configured correctly but the printer I have is showing neither on laptop nor on IPad. Can u tell how

I bought an airport express after being assured that I will be able to AirPrint from my IPad. I have set up airport utility on my Hp laptop and configured it properly with the express. But still I'm not able to detect the printer attached to the USB port of airport express, neither on my laptop nor on my IPad. Can someone tell me if and how it can be done?

Who assured you that an AirPort Express would allow you to use AirPrint from an iPad. They were incorrect.
AirPrint from iPads and other iOS devices is only supported on a select few wireless network printers that expressly advertise that feature. An AirPort Express will not add that feature to a printer that does not support AirPrint. Also, for printers that do support AirPrint a wireless access point is not required since the printer needs to support wireless networks connections internally.
The HP laptop should however be able to print to the printer connected to the AirPort Express. Try also installing the Bonjour Print Services for Windows. It will make printer discovery a lot easier when using Bonjour enable devices like an AirPort Express.
