Is the status light green?
Your Airport device may be in Bridge Mode.
Airport Utility 6:
Open Airport Utility, select the Airport Express and click Edit. Navigate to the Network tab and change Router Mode to DHCP and NAT. Then click Update on the bottom right.
Airport Utility 5:
Open Airport Utility and click Manual Setup. Navigate to the Internet icon and change Connection Sharing to Share a Public IP Address. Then click Update on the bottom right.

I just bought an Airport Express to stream music. I connected it to my wireless network. When I have it plugged in right beside the router and my Mac, it works. When I take it downstairs, it isn't found by iTunes Airplay or whatever it's called.
Am I missing something?If you power down the AirPort Express for now and then temporarily move your laptop to the location where you plan to install the AirPort Express downstairs, what type of signal reception do you get there? In other words, can you get a good, fast Internet signal on the laptop at that location?
Here, we assume that the AirPort Express will not be installed behind a cabinet or other furniture that would absorb a good deal of the WiFi signal. -

You don't mention what function you want the AirPort Express to accomplish.
If you are trying to configure it to "join" your existing wireless network, you need to know the exact type of security that your wireless network is using fo you can use that same information to provide the correct settings to the AirPort Express.
You may be getting a message that the settings have been stored successfully, but unfortunately the settings that you have provided to the Express are likely the wrong settings.
The only way that you really know if the settings that you entered were correct is if you get a green light 20-30 seconds after you click Update. If you don't get a green light on the Express, the settings that you provided were not the correct settings.
When you click Update, the Express will "disappear". This is normal. Up until the time that you click update, AirPort Utility is communicating to the Express on a wireless network with a name like Apple Network xxxxxxx. As soon as you click Update, the Express switches (or tries to switch) to another network, so of course it will disappear from the AirPort Utility window.
As soon as you click Update, close AirPort Utility. There is no reason to keep watching a window when the Express will never appear. -

I am having pretty much the same issue.
Got a new modem Arris SB6141 and a new Airport Extreme ME918LL/A. Activated with my ISP (Comcast). Worked with a savy tech who knew the modem and Airport Extreme. Ensured all items were correct from the ISP side.
I follow the instructions as indicated for Airport Extreme by it fails to detect the internet and dns servers. Comcast suggested I call apple. Reading posts above I will:
-Reset the airport extreme
-Unplug the modem for 30min
Airport Utility 6.3.4 (634.17)
Airport Extreme ME918LL/A Firmware Version 7.7.3
MBP - Yosemite Mid 2012

I just bought an iMac now running OSX 10.8.4. I have a G5 running OXS 10.5.8 - External HD connected to the G5 been using Time Machine to back up. Need to get my files, photos etc. but not applications etc. onto the iMac. How do I do it?

Not those whole folders, but their contents, maybe.
If the user account now on the Mac has read rights to the user account(s) on the backups, yes. If not, you may have to do some finagling.
Try the Browse Other Backup Disks option, per Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #17. If you find an account that can open those folders, restore what you want to an alternate location (#16 in the FAQ).
If not try creating one or more accounts temporarily. -
I have successfully deauthorised my old computer but a unable to authorise my new machine. I have followed the instructions but there is no option on the store menu to 'Authorise this computer'. Please help!
There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them: -
I just got a WD My Passport 1TB External Harddrive and i have already backed everything up to it but im still a little nervous about erasing things off the physical drive on my macbook pro since it says my disk utility is out of space an implying i need to erase items.
I cant find the options to erase selected items it only shows that i can erase everything.
I mean technically i suppose i could erase everything an have a fresh start since its backed up to my external. But what exactly are the specific items being erased?
I have bought the newest OS X 10.8.2 an worried that it will get erased also an end up having to repurchase it.
Can anyone help me?

If you are trying to delete some files get out of Disk Utility, it is not for that!
How did you backup and what are you trying to achieve?

The easiest way to find out what carrier it's locked to would be to call the store where you purchased the phone.
The phone can be unlocked from any location. However, most carrier have restrictions about unlocking and you have to contact them for details. -

If you are on a Windows machine, you will need to download the Airport Admin Utility from Apple:

From there, you can configure the Airport Express. Set up the Airport to:
- create it's own network
- share an IP
- use 802.11n 2.4GHz (g,b compatible)
- use WPA2 for security
Then, test that the iPad can connect to it.
Now, when you take it to a hotel and plug it into their wired network, the Airport will get the IP from the hotel and share it out to your iPad -
my apple tv was working fine untill the AirPlay option disappeared. I haven alterd the settings and have tryed rebooting both iPhone and ipad. I even rebooted the ATV and that disn't work. i am connected to the same network on both devices to. Just bought my airport express today
now ive been reading the manual and i am worried as i would like to use all the features of the airport but i have certain problems which i dont want to risk. I have a macbook and a dell desktop PC. now the router and printer is connected to the main computer so my macbook just links to this network. does this mean that i have to set up the airport with the main PC or can i do it with my macbook for my itunes or can i use both?
any help will be great!I suggest that you temporarily connect the AXn directly to one of the available LAN ports on your other router, and then, use the AirPort Utility on either the MacBook or PC to make the configuration changes. (Note: The AirPort Utility will already be on the MacBook; you will need to install it from the CD that came with the AXn on the PC.)
Here are the basic set up steps ...
AirPort > Wireless
o Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
o Network Name: <existing wireless network>
o Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
o Wireless Password: <enter the existing wireless network password>
o Verify Password: <re-enter the existing wireless network password>
Music
o Enable AirTunes (checked)
o iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
o iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
o Verify Password: (optional)
o Click Update to write the new settings to the AX
In iTunes:
iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
o Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked) -

Follow the directions in "Designing AirPort Networks" (http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/DesigningAirPortNetworks.pdf). The same directions apply for the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) and AirPort Express (AX).
And how can I just use it to make my printer go Wi-Fi?
In either of the above 2 configurations, simply connect the USB printer to the AX's USB port.
