There are way too many posts on this forum from people who buy used iPhones on eBay and who then have problems. I would second wjosten's suggestion to return the phone, get a refund and buy a phone from an authorized dealer.

What Mac model do you have? You might be able to upgrade the OS to Tiger 10.4 or Leopard 10.5.
Even browsers for Tiger 10.4 will get the update message.
You could try a newer browser than Safari, which is obsolete, by downloading Firefox v2.0.0.20 at http://www.oldapps.com/mac/firefox.php

As Ethmoid says, it is still a CDMA phone as I told you earlier, and it will not work with t-mobile. Even if Sprint unlocked the phone, it would only unlock the GSM side for international use. They will not unlock the GSM side for domestic use in the US.

That file could be set as a Launch Agent or Daemon in your ~/Library or /Library, You could try to look for it or Safeboot your computer and then empty the trash. Hi, I have the problem which iTunes cannot detect my iPhone 4s. I tried the steps you have provided in your troubleshooting, but it won't work for me because the Apple Mobile Devilce is perfectly installed on my windows. However, the driver "Microsoft teredo Tunneling adapter" has a yellow exclamation mark, which i believe means it's not installed correctly or something is wrong with it. This driver is under the Network Adapters (Please see picture below).
This is what happens when I connect my iPhone 4s to my laptop (Windows 7 Starter 32-bit)
1. The phone charges it's battery
2. I can open it in My Computer and import/export media files.
In iTunes
3. It start to sync until step 3 then stops.
4. The iPhone option with an arrow appears beside the iTunes Store, but when the arrow is clicked it disappears.
I hope you can provide me a solution for this problem.

For your iTunes issue with it not recognizing your iPhone, I would go ahead and suggest deleting iTunes and all of its components from your Windows computer and installing fresh.
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
iTunes

Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
As far as the arrow button that you click and the iPhone disappears, it sounds like you may be clicking on the eject button. Please take a look at the following article for information on the eject button in iTunes.

If the price is the same everywhere that you have looked - I would suggest purchasing wherever you feel most comfortable. I think you might be answering your own question though when you ask if the workshops are free. You are not going to get the type of instruction - if you get any at all - from a reseller like you will get at an Apple Store. The Apple Store will set the device up for you if you want them to do so.

Only the carrier to whom the device is locked can authorize it's unlocking.
Consumer Cellular is not a supported carrier.
Jailbreaking voids all rights to support from Apple and these user to user support forums.
