No update is ever forced on you. It's always the user's option to accept and install the update or not, which you apparently did. As John said, there is no supported way to go back to an earlier version of iOS, and that's been the case since the first iOS-based device came out these several years ago. If you want to comment to Apple on the issue, you can do so via their feedback page:

but I don't expect Apple to change, and almost certainly not in the near future. If you search the web, you'll find instructions that may work for downgrading, but you're on your own should any problems arise. For many people it goes without problems, but for some it's reportedly bricked their devices.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

I just bought an ipod touch 4th generation recently, found that it is very difficult to plug and unplug the USB cable from my ipod. Does anyone have this problem?
Some of the Dock connector cables have very small buttons on the rounded adge of the plug, which need to be pushed in to release the plug from the iPod. Look at the picture below, do you notice the "button" on the white connector edge? There's one on the other edge too and they both need to be pressed in to release the "evil looking spike" sticking out of the grey edge.
The shorter plugs (that I've seen) do not have the release mechanism, the plug simply pulls out. -

This will fix your problem!
To put the device in DFU mode,
1. Connect the device to iTunes
2. Hold both the power button and the home button down simultaneously
3. After 10 seconds, release the power button but leave the home button pressed
4. iTunes should then recognize that the device has entered DFU mode and ask to restore.
That should get you back on your way.

I need a way of severing all services (such as message receiving and connecting to my iPhone texts) from my iPod Touch 4th gen remotely as I'm concerned it has been taken and I did not activate 'find my iPod' before its disappearance. I have already changed my Apple ID passwords in the hope that it would require my new password to recieve any further messages. I tested it on my iPad and this is seemingly not the case. I also do not want whoever has it to be able to see my mobile conversations as I also own an iPhone and I do not want them to be able to recieve all messages sent to and from my iPhone. Basically I just want to make it so no one can use any services using my account.
there is nothing you can do to find it if the find my ipod app was not activated if it was stolen all you can do is file a police report you would need to have the serial number when you file the police report, plus notify your celluar provider that your iphone may have been stolen and they can make a note on their network about the phone

To be honest, the newest version of itunes is hard to use and not as user friendly in my opinion - or i may not know how to use it yet. Anyways, i tried to backup my iphone to itunes and then restore my new ipod from the backup of the iphone 4, but it only backed up phoyos, contacts, and two other things (games was not one of them). Then when I restored my ipod, that is all that downloaded onto the ipod as well. I would really appreciate if someone would be able to provide me with detailed instructions as to how to be able to download everything from my iphone 4 to my ipod touch 5th generation. Well first you need to sync your iPhone 4 with your Mac/PC so that it will transfer all your music, apps, podcasts, etc. Then sync your iPod Touch and the media you selected during the sync should be there on your iPhone. If you have difficulty in transferring media from iPhone to your computer, try softwares like TransCopy. They will help in transferring data from your iphone to your computer. Dont forget to check that all the transferred data is in the iTunes media folder so that the iTunes can locate the files. Link to Transcopy software :

I have just today recieved a brand new iPod Touch 4th generation iPod with the latest update. Everything else on the ipod is working and my computer is able to read the camera fine, but iTunes cannot recognise it - even after restarting and trying different USB ports and cables. There is nothing at all coming up on the device list and iTunes is working as it would if I had no iPod plugged in. This is my first iPod on this computer and I have already tried redownloading iTunes. My computer is a windows XP computer. Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this problem?
Since this is an XP machine, which version of iTunes do you have installed? Is it the latest version?
Have you tried starting iTunes, attach the USB end of the cable, then while holding the home button on the iPod connect the 30-pin connector end of the cable to the iPod...that is the recovery mode but also should make iTunes see the iPod.
If that doesn't work you may need to take the iPod back and have it tested by the genius bar techs to make sure the connector is not bad. -
My nephew has bought a new ipod touch in the US while visiting me on vacation but is goiung back to the UK in a few days. Can he register it here and then still use it there or should he wait until he goes back to the UK?

It should be okay to activate it in the US as I think you can choose your country when you set the iPod up and if it does go wrong, you can always wipe it and start again in UK. -
