I just bought final cut express 4 Academic and it fails downloading!!!

I just bought final cut express 4 at my Sister's university. They have a mac store there and the listed price for FCE 4 was $70, so i bought it. After opening it the download failed. What do I do?! Please help!

Hello and welcome to the forum.
What download? Do you mean the installation failed? You need to contact Apple with installation issues. Before doing that, it might be worthwhile to completely uninstall FCE, use Disk Utility to repair your permissions, then reboot. Here's a free utility to help with the uninstall. (http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcs_remover.htm)
You need to be doing the installation and first run of the software from an Admin account on your Mac.

  • I Just bought Final Cut Pro X and now I find out

I just bought Final Cut Pro X, I have used Final cut Express 4 with no problem using a firewire supported camera, Now I find out there is no video camers I can buy for Final cut Pro X for under $500, all the video cameras are now USB and for PC Microsoft based computers, What the He..? Does anybody know of a video camera (AVCHD) HD for around $300 to $400 I can buy, I really do not want to buy off ebay ...I'm not sure what Apple's policy is on returning software That has been downloaded but If I can't find a video camera for this software...I want my mony back. Help??
Oh buy the way I'm just doing short 3 min SHORT clips for web etc, I have a Mac Mini Ver. OS 10 10.7.3, CS5.5

I don't understand what you are saying. It doesn't make sense and is not true.
Cameras using FireWire are now a thing of the past. These were the traditional Mini-DV tape types that we have known for the last 15 years.
Almost every camera made nowadays is AVCHD which is ideal for FCP X and their prices start at about £180.
They use USB instead of FireWire but that is no problem whatsoever.
They work perfectly and are much better in many ways than the old mini-DV tape cameras.
I am a complete dinosaur, always harking to the past, but even I have embraced them as a fantastic step forward.
    And they are very cheap!
I could go on and on.
    So what is the problem?
You can buy a brand new AVCHD camera for £180 which will work perfectly with FCP X or you can use your old mini-DV tape camera.
It's a win-win situation however you look at it.
P.S. You can ignore the list of recommended cameras. It is completely meaningless as new cameras are being produced all the time and there is no way Apple could get hold of them and test them even if it wanted.
Take my word, almost every camera made will work perfectly with FCP X.
I would say that every camera will work but there may be some weird type to prove me wrong.

  • Just installed Final Cut Express 4 but doesn't open

Hey I'm a dummy but....Just installed Final Cut Express 4 but doesn't open tells me I don't have the AGP graphics card,my ATI Radeon X1600?Do some imac 1.83 Intel Core Duo come with out it?I'm freek'n stuck!!Any help would be Greatly appreciated!!

Al's suggestion should solve the problem.
However, if you get fed up with hitting the esc key every time you open FCE you could try this permanent cure .......... it's nowhere near as frightening as it sounds and only takes a minute !
For a permanent cure edit the info.plist like this:-
    1. Right click on the FCE icon (in Applications NOT the Dock) and select "Show Package Contents".
    2. Open the "Contents" folder and double click the "info .plist". It should open automatically in TextEdit - if it doesn't, choose TextEdit manually.
    3. Around 15 or so lines down you will see AGP. Delete it and put in PCI.
    4. Close the window and when asked if you want to save the changes, say yes.

  • I just bought Final Cut Studio, now Final Cut Pro X came out. Can I get a refund on Final Cut Studio now that it is obsolete?

I think this is so bad on Apple's part. I just bought Final Cut Studio, and now they release Final Cut Pro X. Apple keeps a veil of secrecy about the release of their products, but if I had known Final Cut Pro X would have integrated the main Final Cut Studio components I would have waited. How could anybody have predicted an App from the App Store would integrate 3 of the extensive components of Final Cut Studio? I am ticked off that I spent $1000 for FCS, and now Final Cut Pro X basically makes it obsolete! Is it possible that Apple will offer a refund for Final Cut Studio, since really they should not have been selling it so close to the release of Final Cut Pro X?

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I am more at peace of mind that there may be a market now that Final Cut Studio is off the shelves. Basically I bought Studio to ramp up my video making abilities from iMovie for promoting my son's adaptive skiing. Studio gave a lot of great functionality for me, but I also bought FCP X and it has most of what I need. I had thought that there was no way to have the rest of the Studio (Motion, Color, Soundtrack Pro) in FCP X unless you had the full Studio before hand. Some Apple folks thought similarly to me, which is why I dropped the grand on it. Now I found that Color and the Soundtrack piece are integrated into FCP X. I was baffled. I am still not clear on what I can do with the full Studio that I cannot do with FCP X? As with any new software release there are bugs at first. I am guessing that if I ride out the bugs much of the functionality from the Full Studio will be in FCP X (and Motion and Compressor Apps), thus making the Studio eventually obsolete, since the 64 bit and full use of my Quad Core Processor is definitely one step up, with some of the other step downs. I mean, check out what Conan's team has done!

  • I just bought Final Cut Studio right before this new version...

I just bought Final Cut Studio right before this new version came out. Am I eligible for a free upgrade to the new software?

I'm sorry, but these replies have been ludicrous.  To actually answer your question, I would think they would honour their usual 14-day return policy, but you would need to speak with Apple directly.
As to the whole "which is better" debacle, there is no doubt that Final Cut Pro 7 is the more polished and fleshed out piece of editing software, and what everyone is most familiar with to boot.  But let's be honest, what do you expect for software that is ten years old versus three days.  The fact of the matter is that pretty much everyone editing with Apple's software in the not so distant future is going to be editing on Final Cut Pro X, hands down.  It's fundamentally that much better.  You nay-sayers out there, if you don't switch to Adobe or Avid, you will go to FCP X!  There is a reason for that, and there will be an even stronger reason for that with every update.  People don't seem to understand that.
In your situation, if you don't own either, it makes a whole lot more sense to me for you to just roll with the hiccups FCP X brings if you can at all handle it.  If not, you are going to spend $999 now on FCS 3 and another $400 in the near future when you decide to take the leap.  Is there something worth $1000 to you in FCS 3 that FCP X doesn't offer?  If so, then great, go ahead.  It's an amazing piece of software.  If not, enjoy the head start on what editing is going to look like for the next ten years.
All the best talking with Apple.  The way that they are pushing FCP X I would hope you don't run into any trouble.

You can have them both on the same computer as I and many others have done for years.
Just go ahead and install FCS 3 normally.
There will be absolutely no problems.

  • Just bought Final Cut Pro 7 (Final Cut Pro 3)

    Hello,
I have both Final Cut Pro 6.0 and the new Final Cut Pro X running on my mac. Should I unistall, delete both FCP 6 and FCP X than re-install the new FCP 7 and than FCP X. Just wanted to do a whole clean re-install of FCP. Or can I just pop in the FCP 7 and install over the 6.0 version? Is it a conflict to have both FCP 7 and FCP X running on your system? or is it ok?

Before installing FCS create a new folder called  exactly  Final Cut Pro X  and put it in in your Applications Folder.
Put FCP X (together with  Compressor 4 and Motion 5, if you have them), into the folder.
    Finally install FCS normally.

  • Final Cut Express 3.5HD and Panasonic DVX100ae

    Hi guys,
I'm desperate for some advice. I'm seconds away from purchasing a Panasonic DVX100ae but just thought whether or not i would be able to edit the 24p effect on Final Cut Express 3.5 that i'm desperate for. If i can't then i guess its pointless spending so much on the camera. Someone please help!
In advance, thanks to anyone who replies; your a legend.

FCE does not work as well with this camera as FCS does. Some functionality in the camera will not work correctly. 24p advanced does not work with FCE. Basic 24p will work, depending on what you do with the material in the application. For basic editing it's OK.

  • Final Cut Express issues: Video and no audio

Ok.. sorry about before. I posted in someone elses message, for that I'm sorry.
My name is Justin Smith. I'm a freelance videographer out in Kansas. I have a brand new Macbook Pro. I'm shooting with a Dvx-100. I took my camera and tried to import video into Final Cut Express. When the short video clip was finished capturing, I tried putting it to the timeline, but only the video was added. So I have video, no audio and a bunch of questions. How do I get my orginal audio from the tape onto the timeline? Also, I have a question about importing audio from say Itunes. I can import the song fine, But when I lay the track down on the timeline, I'm getting a continuous beep noise. I read the FAQ and it told me I have to convert the track to AIFF? How do I do this?

As for importing audio from iTunes, yes, you must convert it to AIFF first. iTunes can do this unless you purchased the songs from the iTunes Music Store. If you did, they are protected AAC files and won't convert. There are ways to do it but since it most likely violates the copyright, no one on this forum can legally tell you how to do it.
If they are not protected, then go to iTunes preferences, select the Advanced icon at the top and click the Importing tab. Select AIFF encoder from the "Import Using" popup menu and make sure the settings are 48khz. Then select the song from the library and choose (from the menu bar) Advanced->Convert Selection To AIFF. A new music file in AIFF format will appear in your library.
Another way is to use Quicktime Pro (the paid version of Quicktime). Open the music file in Quicktime, choose Export and select AIFF, 48Khz, 16bit for the format. Again, this won't work if its an iTunes protected file.

  • Trouble making the text in scrolling credits (made on Final Cut Express) export clear and not fuzzy

I am having difficulty making the text in the scrolling credits in Final Cut Express clear and not fuzzy. I went under effects, then clicked video generators, then text, then scrolling text to get the scrolling credits working. I tried using the Chroma Keyer effect and the Color Key Effect. These work on captions on video and beginning titles but not the scrolling text. All of those were made on livetype so maybe that is why. I would really appreciate some help. I've been working on this all day. I was on the technical support line for about 40 minutes and they told me there is no more help given over the phone for Final Cut Express and that I should go on here and see if anyone can answer my question. I looked on all the forums and there was nothing on this subject. Thanks.

The software is not doing what it should be doing.  We have all had this type of problem.  It is nearly always somehow in the way the software is being used.  Look at your added Chromakey and color key.  You must be doing something that the FCE does not like.  Open a new project and new sequence and try the exact same thing.  (I use titles from LiveType and from the effects tab and have no problems)

From what device are you attempting to Log & Transfer footage from?
Where are you saving your transferred footage to?

  • Just installed Final Cut Express BUT

NOW it tells me that I need an AGP graphics card. Is something I can get to work withan Imac, or am I screwed?

If you have FCE 3 HD on a new iMac or Powermac with PCI Express graphics you need the 3.0.1 update:

  • How to render in Final Cut Express without widescreen and black bars?

    Hi there,
I have been having problems when importing my xbox 360 gameplay into FCE, when it is imported it says it needs to be "rendered" when I complete the render the gameplay turns into widescreen with black bars on top and bottom.
Watch this video on youtube and you can see what I mean
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0Wi0hDq-iU
I have searched and searched on the net but found nothing useful that could help me.
So any tips info would be greatly appreciated, thanks Chris.

Do you mean size format and time length? If not please explain for me.
If so, the original file size, length and format that is going into Steamclip is 200mb, is an mp4 and goes for 2:12 minutes.
Then after I convert this file it becomes a mov file and the size is increased to 1.02 GB does this seem like I am doing this right in MPEG Streamclip?
I only just got FCE two days ago so I don't really know how to check the item properties in FCE, could you please tell me how?"
    Thanks, Chris.
