I just bought my second ipad2 can I update these units on the same laptop ?

Hi I just purchased my second ipad2, I set them up on individual laptops with individual Apple ID's. When I go on trips and take one laptop can I update both ipads off of one computer with indiviual ID's Or do I have to take 2 laptops with me? I hope this makes sence.

You can update apps on each iPad without a computer so that is a no brainer. You don't need a computer at all - just a WiFi connection.
If you want to update iOS software on the iPads - you may be able to do that prior to syncing IF you turn off auto syncing in iTunes but I'm not totally sure about that.
Each iPad is tied to it's own iTunes account and library so there is no way of switching back and forth for syncing purposes.
Bottom line - why do you need the computer at all if the "trips" are not overextended trips. I appreciate the importance of regularly syncing and keeping things updated but if you are going to take 2 iPads and a laptop on a trip that sort of throws the whole "portable and lightweight" idea out the window and sounds more like a pain in the azz to me.
One possibilty would have been is to create multiple iTunes libraries on one computer.
http://www.apple.com/itunes/inside-itunes/2011/01/keeping-multiple-itunes-librar ies-on-a-single-computerif-you-share-your-computer-with-others-and-you.html
I would assume if you do this you could log in with the separate accounts and keep each iPad updated.

I just bought a new iPod and I have it set up the same as my old iPod but I can't get notifications on the lock screen like I did on my old iPod. What can I do to fix this?

    Hi.
What is the exact notification you are waiting? This could be possible that the device has already been opened once. Don't you think?

  • Siebel Remote - Can multiple disconnected users be on the same laptop?

Has any open come across the following requirement? I have a customer that is interested in 'sharing' laptops with multiple offline users with the ability to sync. Can we have multiple disconnected users on the same laptop? If so what would be the options? The challenge is how to manage multiple extracts on one MWC installation. I suspect that 'OOTB', we only support one extract per machine/installation of the MWC. We may be able to support multiples, but it would take some config/customization.

Please don't post the same question in different forums

  • Just bought a second hand iPod Touch 32GB 4th Gen. The IOS is currently 4.3.5 and when I try to update to the latest, the connection continually times out. Can you help?

    Hi All,
First ever post on here but I feel that my options are slowly running out. I've just bought a second hand iPod Touch 32GB 4th Gen. It was reset to factory settings meaning that that software was 4.3.5
As soon as I plug it into iTunes it asks me to update to the latest version. I click for it to go ahead but the connection times out (error code 3259)
I've been on the phone to apple for over an hour and we still couldn't resolve the issue. We tried disabling the firewall, uninstalling AVG, diabling pop up blockers, checking the LAN settings, disabling the router security and anything else we could think of.
We still couldn't get it to stop timing out. I tried to download the firmware from iClarified but iTunes said it didn't recognise the software.
    Has anyone got any ideas?

Just what did yo do to gt iTunes to see the download:

  • Can I backup two iPhones to the same laptop and iTunes account?

Is it possible to backup and sync an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 3Gs to the same laptop and iTunes account?  My wife and I both have iPhones.  Her laptop just crashed, so we only have one laptop to use as a back up / sync now.

Yes, iTunes will maintain separate backups for each device. Note, however, ALL iTunes content, presently on your wife's phone will be erased when you first sync it to your computer. So, you need to get all of that content into your iTunes library first. Read here about your choices for managing multiple devices on one computer:

I have been waiting for two days for an app to install on my iPad. Seems like something is stuck as it just keeps displaying "installing". Can not see where I can delete and start over and it's preventing me from updating or downloading any more games. Acts like a corrupt file or something. Can anyone help solve this problem? Thanks

Did anyone ever suggest you reset your PRAM?
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
Also might want to try resetting the SMC, although I
    doubt there's an issue there.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304123
I'm getting tired of people who supposedly know what
they're doing simply guessing that resinstalling the
OS might solve the issue. It's like trying to dissect
a frog with a sledge hammer, and wondering why you
didn't learn anything about anatomy in the process.
These sorts of things, although bizarre, should be
(and probably are) fixable without major surgery.
Thanks for the suggestion... but I think my first question would be why these parameters would need re-setting? This is a new machine... It has never been shut down hard. It is used at most 10 hours per week... mostly using Office 2004 for MAC. I need to figure this out as I will soon need it as a Cs2/CS3 - Aperture workhorse.
I too agree that it is best not to use a sledge when a scalpel is needed... but as a novice to the MAC world I may have been misled by Apple support. I seems to have fixed the symptoms ( some) but appears NOT to have addressed the cause... which is what I am after.
Would TechTool Pro detect a bad HD or RAM?
    Thanks....

  • Hello i just bought an iPod Nano 7th gen and it got crushed the same day.  Can i get a replacement?

I went to walmart and bought a 16 gb silver nano 7th gen.  Upon paying for it i regretfully said no when they offered me insurance or w/e it is.  So i go home, charge it and upload my music to it and head out to the gym.
Now i know most of you are gonna think i crushed it with some weights but nope.  When i finished my workout i left and got on my car.  When i closed the door it bounced back and i heard a crush.  I look down and it appears the ipod fell out of my pocket and it got destroyed.  It still turns on but the mteal is bent, the screen is all tiny shards of glass and the image behind the glass is all messed up now.
A little vent here but i honestly have the worst luck ever.
Now is it possible to get a replacement somehow?

You can send it in to them: https://expresslane.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action?PRKEYS=PF3

  • Can I update multiple forms with the same dropdown at the same time

I have 20+ forms that have a common dropdown.  Each form has between 1 and 15 instances of this dropdown.  The values in the dropdown are updated on a frequent basis.
Currently I have an identical Document JavaScript named 'UpdateDropdowns' in each form.
    function update_dropdowns()
        var aList = ["  ", "A", "B", "C"];
//Add any other dropdown choices in the var aList in the format shown
        getField("TradeNameDropdown1").setItems(aList);
        getField("TradeNameDropdown2").setItems(aList);
// Add any other dropdowns added to the form in the format shown
        // Open Log Console (Ctrl-J), enter update_dropdowns()  (Ctrl-Enter)
There are over 30 choices in my present iteration of var aList, but for brevity I've only listed the 3 examples to illustrate my JavaScript.
Currently when I have to update the dropdown, I follow these steps
    Open form
    Open UpdateDropdowns Document JavaScript
    Add the additional value(s)
Highlight and copy the updated var aList
    Close the Document JavaScript
Update the form in the Log Console
Repeat process for all forms (pasting in the new var aList to ensure conformity)
Is there a way to update all of my forms at once without having to go through this form by form process?

That sounds fantastic try67.  I have the most recent version of Acrobat Pro.
I'm unfamiliar with the process.  Will 'Help' be able to walk me through it?
I'm not in the office anymore, so not in front of the program.

  • TS1591 I just bought a second iPod touch (4th gen), but when I connect the second iPod to my computer it is not recognizing it. How can I have two iPod's set up????

So I had an iPod touch and everything with it is fine. I just bought a second one for my daughter...exactly the same as my iPod. This second one was bought used, but was reset completely before I plugged it into my computer. My problem is... my iTunes does not recognize the second touch as a device! I can't get it to sync, so I can't get any music or anything onto the device. How can I have two iPod touches on my computer? Is there something special that I have to do to get my computer to recognize this second touch as a different device?? PLEASE HELP!!!

    - If you are using the same USB port and the same cable and have iTunes version 10.7 or later on the computer there is something wrong with the iPod.
    - Does the second iPod work?
    - Does it charge?
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • I just bought a second mac, should/can both macs have the same "name"?????

Hi, I just bought a second mac and need to know what I should do regarding the "naming" of the new one. Should the name be different.....or just the "short' name? Will the files I migrate over not open if it's not the same name as my first mac? when it comes to the new "mobileme", shouldn't my macs have different names in order for it to 'sync' properly? I'm very confused over the entire issue....

It shouldn't. After migrating files from the old computer to the new one, repair disk permissions. If you're using Mac OS X 10.5.4 or 10.5.3, you might get permission errors, but you don't need to worry about them unless you're having problems running a particular application. I consistently get a "cups" error with 10.5.3 and 10.5.4 but it doesn't affect the computer's performance. It seems to be a bug in the operating system.

I have an ipad and just bought a second one for my daughter and she wants all my music on her ipad.  All the music is under my itunes account yet she has her own itunes account so she can have her own apps and purchase apps with gift cards (She's only 9)
I subscibe to music match under my account but it wont let me put my music on her ipad under hers or even my itunes account.  I get some sort of 90 day error message.  How do i get around this so I can let her have my music on her ipad?

iTunes Match is not sharable across Apple IDs. The best way to get the music on her iPad is to leave hers signed into her Apple ID on the iTunes Store and sync via USB.

  • Just bought a second hand MacPro early 2008 running Mavericks. How do I reset it to standard deleting previous owner admin account?

Just bought a second hand MacPro early 2008 running Mavericks. How do I reset it to standard, deleting previous owner admin account?
The previous owner seems to have cleared most of his stuff but I can't make changes as it's asking for the admin password!
Is there a way to reset the MacPro back as if I was logging on for the first time so that I can set it up as my computer?

The first thing to do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. You—not the original owner—must do that. Changes made by Apple over the years have made this seemingly straightforward task very complex.
How you go about it depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number onthis page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
It's unsafe, and may be unlawful, to use a computer with software installed by a previous owner.
    1. If you don't own another Mac
    a. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc from theApple Store or a reputable reseller—not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine is very old and has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. Preferably, install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
    b. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for a MacBook Air. You should have received the media from the original owner, but if you didn't, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To start up from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then restart the computer and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
    c. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should start up in Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
    d. Some 2010-2011 models shipped with OS X 10.6 and received a firmware update after 10.7 was released, enabling them to use Internet Recovery. If you have one of those models, you can't reinstall 10.6 even from the original media, and Internet Recovery will not work either without the original owner's Apple ID. In that case, contact Apple Support, or take the machine to an Apple Store or another authorized service provider to have the OS installed.
    2. If you do own another Mac
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to prepare a USB device, then start up the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. Alternatively, if you have a Time Machine backup of OS X 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a Time Capsule or other network device), you can start from that by holding down the option key and selecting it from the row of icons that appears. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
    3. Partition and install OS X
    a. If you see a lock screen when trying to start up from installation media or in Recovery mode, then a firmware password was set by the previous owner, or the machine was remotely locked via iCloud. You'll either have to contact the owner or take the machine to an Apple Store or another service provider to be unlocked. You may be asked for proof of ownership.
    b. Launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive—not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the  Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive.
    c. An unusual problem may arise if all the following conditions apply:
OS X 10.7 or later was installed by the previous owner
The startup volume was encrypted with FileVault
You're booted in Recovery mode (that is, not from a 10.6 installation disc)
In that case, you won't be able to unlock the volume or partition the drive without the FileVault password. Ask for guidance or see this discussion.
    d. After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. If you're installing a version of OS X acquired from the App Store, you will need the Apple ID and password that you used. When the installation is done, the system will automatically restart into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
    e. Run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. To upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the original owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed—you have to repurchase them.
    4. Other issues
    a. If the original owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're irrevocably linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Mac App Store Customer Service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
    b. If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to  authorize it immediately under your ID. In that case, you'll either have to wait up to 90 days or contact iTunes Support.
    c. When trying to create a new iCloud account, you might get a failure message: "Account limit reached." Apple imposes a lifetime limit of three iCloud account setups per device. Erasing the device does not reset the limit. You can still use an iCloud account that was created on another device, but you won't be able to create a new one. Contact iCloud Support for more information. The setup limit doesn't apply to Apple ID accounts used for other services, such as the iTunes and Mac App Stores, or iMessage. You can create as many of those accounts as you like.

What country are you in ? Depending upon what country that you are in then you might be able to redownload them on your Mac's iTunes via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the iTunes store homepage
If you're not in a country where TV programmes can be redownloaded then connect the iPad to your Mac's iTunes and use the File > Devices > Transfer Purchases to copy them over from your iPad
