I just did the lastest os update on my iphone. it restarted and wants me to connect to itunes but itunes wants me to restore my phone. i dont want to lose all my stuff. what can I do?
I just did an update on my iphone 4s, I think it was for the iOS 5.0.1. Afterwards it restarted and my screen was froze with the itunes logo and usb cord thingy.
When I connected it to iTunes it says iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. And that I must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.
What should I do? I am afraid I will lose all my contacts, music, photos, etc.... PLEASE HELP!

If it's in recovery mode (iTunes logo and USB cable on the screen) then there is nothing on the phone to lose. Everything that was on it is already gone. If you've been backing up on a regular basis and syncing your contacts to a supported cloud service or contact manager, you should simply be able to restore it.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I just installed the latest software update on my iPhone this weekend (9/22/12), and now I can't get email. I've restarted and closed all my apps to no avail. I'm able to get email on my laptop, so it's not a problem with my provider. Any ideas?
Originally we were getting the error that the phone could not connect. Then, after deleting the account multiple times and re-adding it again, the error message CHANGED to having to log in to Yahoo and authorize.
When we went to Yahoo in a regular browser and logged in there was an alert telling us about connection attempts so it disabled mobile/iphone connectivity. It required that we change our password FIRST.
Then, we went in to Manage Apps and Webpages and saw that iPhone was not there but Facebook was.
After all of this went back to the phone and deleted then re-added the account again and SUCCESS!
It now also shows up on the Yahoo Manage Apps and Webpages.

The Itunes and Iphone just did the complete new update addiing on Icloud and new applications. After all was done and it said all was completed - the Icloud icon is not on my iphone screen anywhere nor is it on my computer after I did go to the control panel and set up. I tried repairing the download and it said all was fine. What needs to be done to get this all to work.

Thanks for the reply. I did think that could be the case but then other books would also show up as apps on phone but not counted as an app. Maybe book apps downloaded from the app store work in this way whereas books bought from the ibooks app show in ibooks and not as apps.
I guess that would make sense, it must be because they are books but downloaded from the app store rather than the book store so they are visible as an app but don't actually get counted as an app.
Would you think that's the case too?

Help! I just did the new OS update and all my photos & albums from iphoto are GONE!
I just did the new OS updated last night. When I opened Photos this morning, there was nothing. NOTHING! Not, photos in weird order or unlabeled. There were no photos period. Where did they go? What can I do? This is my work! I cannot have a decades worth of photos completely lost. Can I do something with timemachine to get them back. HELP!!!
This looks like Photos opened a new, empty library, because it could not access your iPhoto Library or Aperture Library.
Where are you storing your iPhoto Library? In the default location in the Pictures folder or on an external drive?
For Photos to be able to open your iPhoto Library, the library needs to be on a drive formatted MacOS Extended, and directly connected. It will not be able to open the library on a NAS or any network volume. -
I noticed after I did the 5.1 update to my iPhone 4S it now says I'm on the 4G network... will this upgrade put all iPhones on the 4G network?
Depending on what source you read there are no 4G networks anywhere in the world (the definition is 100 Mbps or better). However, that doesn't stop carriers from calling somewhat more advanced networks from claiming they are "4G". Thus, Verizon calls their LTE network 4G. At 7-15 Mbps it's certainly better than their lame EVDO, but it isn't true 4G. AT&T calls their HSPA+ 4G, and I have seen up to 7 Mbps on my 4S, which makes it faster than their 1.5-2Mbps HSDPA. But it isn't LTE (which AT&T is deploying also and isn't compatible with the iPhone). So the short answer is that it's just market positioning.

If you read any of the posts about wireless lack of connectivity, I think you will discover that your problem is related to their problems. Some people have Kernal panics immediatley, and if you have a wireless setup and the machine is trying to connect wirelessly, it kernal panics and doesn't continue. If this is not the case, write back so that further troubleshooting can take place. By the way it would help if you posted whether your MacBook was a Core2 duo (Broadcom wireless chipset) or Core Duo (Atheros wireless chipset) in addition to the type of router you're using. This gives technicians info they need to duplicate the problem.

I did the ios6 software update on my iphone and it did not complete because it said there was an error. It then gave me a message that I needed to restore my phone. When I tried to restore my backup it says it cannot be completed because there is not enough storage. I cant delete anything to make more storage because my phone is not usable because it wont restore. What do I do?
Something in your backup may be corrupt. Try wiping it and setting it up as a new device, then sync your apps, data and media back to it from iTunes. DO NOT resotre from your backup. If the problem is contained in the backup, it will bring it right back again if you restore.

Tried to update, screen said verifying update. then said to plug into itunes. itunes (on home PC) said ipad was in recovery mode and I need to restore to factory settings to move ahead, losing all my stuff. Obviously traumatic. Do I do this? why did this happen?
The best way to backup your iPad is the way that makes the most sense in your situation and the way that works best for you. There is no hard and fast answer. But since you asked .....
I prefer using iTunes because I don't have to worry about having enough space available in iCloud. You are allotted 5GB of space with the free iCloud account, but that is really not that much storage space at all. You can purchase more space, but IMO, its crazy to pay for cloud storage if you have your own computer. On top of that, you have more control when you use your computer. You can backup the content on your computer in order to have backups of backups. You can't do that with iCloud. Another disadvantage to using iCloud is that you always need to be connected to WiFi in order to backup to iCloud. Not everybody always has access to WiFi every minute of every day.
Read this and see if it helps you make your decision. If you have more questions, post again and ask.

I just did the IOS 8 update to my iPad 3 now my apps wont work
I just did the IOS 8.2 update to my iPad 3. It made me put it back to factory settings. Then I did my iCloud backup (and it said that my Apple ID and password wouldn't work) but some how my apps go restored by now all my apps are dark and wont open. And when I try to delete them it says "Deleting ___will also delete all of its data" HELP!!!
I just rang and they helped me with this issue.
Make sure you know your wifi password. The following fix didn't require a restore or for me to lose any other data.
Go to Settings, General, Reset, Reset all settings. Reset, Reset, (It might ask for the devices password).
Once the reset is done, open the apple store and search for the apps that aren't working and download them directly from the app store.
I really hope that it helps everyone. I'd be keen to know if it helps. -
I need to update my iphone 4 but have never used this computer before and i dont want to lose all my songs contacts and games can anyone help me find out if its possible and how to do it im desperate.
Or just wait until you can use the computer you used previously. If that isn't possible see Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

I have the iPhone 4. i just did the most recent update to ios 6.
I did this overnight thinking it would be done in the morning. it is now stuck on the iTunes, to charger cable screen. holding the restarts stuff does nothing, the same screen just pops up. when i plug it in to my mac that i got this year everything updated on it, it tells me i have to restore it. my phone is not backed up i dont want to lose all my photos. please help!
It's too late now, if you want to use the iPhone, you need to restore.
It's very Important to backup iif you have important stuff you want to keep, do it more often, especially a IOS updates.

What does this mean?Interesting.
So it bombs syncing the game on itunes but it sees that you bought it on the iphone so then it downloads it again for free using your wifi connection.....
Thats one way around the error.

The "verisign" logo for secured sites is missing from the status/addon bar. How can I get it back?
