I just downloaded Firefox & I cannot open it in normal or safe mode.

Nothing happens when I try to open Firefox.

Thank you but yes, I realise that. My question was however, how do I get Firefox to start up online automatically ( as it always has done in previous versions), without having to go to File and untick Work off line every time.
As a result of this unnecessary process, I no longer use Firefox as my default browser (just in case anyone from Firefox happens to read these posts!!)

  • Firefox hangs when opening Tools - Options, even in Safe Mode

    I've just upgraded to Firefox 3.6.13. Prior to upgrading I removed all add ons. I went to Tools -> Options to check the settings and Firefox hung. I had to end it with Ctrl-Alt-Del. This happened several times. Then I started Firefox in Safe Mode and attempted to view Tools -> Options again. Firefox hung. It does not try to submit any crash reports (apart from the automatic Microsoft report that occurs when you end a program manually).
    I can browse websites ok, open PDFs, view Flash, etc. I just can't view my options!

    I deleted mimeType.rdf in my existing profile, still have the same issue - can't view Tools -> Options for the Applications tab, or download a file. Same goes for a new profile - the same issues arise.
    Firefox never does crash, I can leave it in this hung state for hours (I left it in a 'not responding' state last night and it was still hung this morning).
    I was going to add a screen shot to this post but Firefox hung when I clicked on the 'Browse' button. Perhaps this is an issue when FF tries to interact with my directory structure? Does that get us any leads on what's wrong?
    FYI, I currently have my antivirus disabled & not running in the task bar just in case that was interfering somehow.

    The solution is easy.
    Install "Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware" free edition and use it. This program found malware in your pc. After that clean this malware. Finally instal Firefox again and enyoy it because this installation is correct and clean. Regards.

    Did you check your security software (firewall)?
    A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
    Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

    Installing nightly builds is not recommended for most people. If you install a nightly build you will get updates every day. Though the current nightly builds are stable, it is not unusual for them to be very unstable and at time unusable.

    Long story short: Simply get CC for teams. At 500 bucks a year it's a steal and those 5 licenses in the base package (or was it 10 even?) cover all your computers, at least the 3 ones you mentioned. For system requirements refer to the individual product pages.

    Do a clean (re)install:
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Don't remove personal data when uninstalling.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
    You can initially skip the step to create a new profile, that may not necessary for this issue.

    does it say where the download is going? If so, open that folder and see
    if what you are looking for is there. Also, what is the file name of the
    download? Open Windows Explorer to C: (or where ever) and search
    for that file. This may take some time for large hard drives.

    So I just downloaded Firefox 4 on Windows Vista 32-bit, and it's not working at all. I open up Firefox and there is not tab bar, and all the command buttons are repeated 3 times, and are on 3 different bars. This only happens with Firefox 4 and not Firefox 3.6.10.     I have this too, but doesn't even startup now? I downgraded to the previous version and all is OK. I also have a 64 bit version of Vista and it seems to work "a-OK" on that machine.

    I just seen a possible answer...Do you have roboform installed (in the taskbar also)? If so, try disabling it or removing it and try to start again. I said above that I have 2 units and on the one (32-bit) I have Roboform installed and it crashes, but on the other one I don't...so go figure.
    According to the report I read, if you upgrade Roboform it should be OK, although I have not tested as of yet...I am still at work...
