I just downloaded itunes on my new laptop, how do I access my itunes library?

I just dowloaded itunes on my new laptop. I am unable to find or access my previous itunes library. I "authorized homeshare" and it said it was completed. I just can't find the icon to open my old music library - where it says "purchased/recently added/most listened to" etc. Can someone guide me?

    or:
    Transfer iTunes purchases by:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848?viewlocale=en_USiTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer othre music by using a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
    Copy music
    - Retain app data and other information, connect the iPod to yur computer and make a backup by right clciking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup
Note that the Backup that iTunes makes does not include synced media like apps and music.

With your new computer, you'll download a fresh copy of iTunes and then authorize iTunes using your Apple ID and Password.  Read the following link:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1420
You can then connect your iPad to your new computer via USB cable and transfer your purchases (do not connect your iPad until you have authorized the computer.  The music you had in your old iTunes account will not be in your new account as music is stored in a file on your hard drive, which you said has crashed.

I want to access my itunes account on my parents computer. It already has another itunes account on it.  I no longer have the original computer that my itunes account was on. How do I access my itunes now in these circumstances?

I can try, but I don't understand your problem.
    What device are you using?
Do they have a Mac or a PC?
Do they have devices they are using?
What do you want to access?  Do you want to sync that information you access?

  • After copying iTunes folder to new PC how do I restore its original library

I have two PCs, each with iTunes on it.
The newer PC has number of tunes that I've purchased from the iTunes Store. It has no playlists.
The older PCs has a large library of Cd-ripped music and numerous playlists.
I want to copy the old PC's library and playlists over to the new PC.
I understand that I can simply copy the iTunes folder from the old PC to the new one and the files and artist folders will be merged fine. Doing this will also replace the itunes.library.itl and "itunes music library.xml" files so I end up with my old playlists on the new PC.
But at that point I suspect iTunes on my new PC will no longer show its original library of files because its original itunes.itl file was overwritten.
How do I get iTunes on the new PC to add those missing tunes back into its library?
      Windows XP Pro

Well, this is a helpful group.
I ended up conducting a test.
I copied the entire iTunes folder from the old PC to the new PC. The music folders simply merged with the existing ones so no music was overwritten except for tunes that existed on both PCs.
Afterwards, iTunes on the new PC showed all the old PC's tunes in the library and all of its playlists. Missing from the library listing were the tunes that had been on the new PC.
But using "Add Folder to Library" to have iTunes rescan the iTunes Music folder added back the missing tunes. All tunes that had been purchased on the new PC and were therefore licensed to that PC still play without any DRM probs.

  • After downloading iTunes to my new laptop, how do I get my library to show up with all my music?

I have had iTunes for a long time, but I recently purchased a laptop.  I downloaded the latest version of iTunes onto my laptop as well as updating the iTunes on my desktop computer.  When I first signed in on my laptop, everything was okay and my music loaded in my library as expected.  Today I got on my iTunes on my laptop, only to find that my library is gone and only three random songs I've never purchased are in my library.  Please HELP!

    Hi, cameron157.
Thank you for the question.  If at any time a purchase are missing from your library, you can always download it again at any time free of charge by accessing your purchase via the iTunes Store.  Below, I have an article that goes over how to do this.
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

Also, if your old computer is still accessible, you can access your content on your old computer via Home Sharing.

  • I have bought a new laptop how do I transfer my itunes library to it?

I have recently bought a new lap top and I tunes is asking me to authorise it before it will allow me to play my previously purchased tunes. The instructions are to open I tunes, go to the store, open the menu and click on "authorise this computer" . I've looked and looked and can't see a menu anywhere. Please help!

    Authorization and Deauthorization
Macs:  iTunes Store- About authorization and deauthorization.
Windows: How to Authorize or Deauthorize iTunes | PCWorld.
In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.
More On De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.
As for transferring your iTunes Library: iTunes- How to move the library to an EHD. Once you have done this take the external drive to your new computer and restore the iTunes data on the new computer.

  • New laptop. how do i get my itunes&music on there?

hi i have itunes on my desktop, but i just got a laptop and i would like to put my music on my laptop, but i don't know how. i know i can easily DL itunes to my laptop, but how do i get all of the music i have already DL into itunes on my desktop on my laptop? i would really prefer to not have to burn it all onto disks and transfer it that way. i really hope there is an easier way!

    Comp DeComp,
Did you see the link that I posted above?
Also, if you don't want to/can't use the method above (using your iPod), you can back up your media in iTunes by burning it to CD/DVD discs, then transferring those songs to a new computer.
For more info on that method, you can check out this article:

  • Bought a new computer - how do I access my old library and play list on another drive?

I bought a new comuter - Windows & and had my Itunes library on a USB Hard drive.  How to I get ITunes to open that library with all the songs being available in Music?  Any ideas would be helpful.

You are going to want to plug in the USB in your new computer, then drag the folder containing your music into the iTunes window.  This should update your iTunes with those songs.
To make a copy of the songs, so that you no longer need your USB, go into iTunes > File >  Preferences > then last tab, there should be a checkbox that says "copy file to iTunes music folder when adding to library".
    Hope that helps.

  • The comp where I have my iTunes installed went dead, how do I access my iTunes again using other computer? I bought an iPad and I can't sync it to my itunes. unable to buy apps as well

the computer where I have my iTunes installed went dead. How do I access my iTunes again? Have no back up or whatsoever.

No backup is not good at all.  This has always been very important.
You can transfer itunes purchases from your ipad/iphone/ipod:  File>Transfer Purchases
You can e-mail pics to yourself.  They will not be of the original quality.
You can enter one unique contact and calendar entry on the computer, you should get the option to merge the data when you first sync.
In some countries you can redownload some purchases:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
