I just downloaded Mountain Lion and both my email and safari do not work. Help please
I just downloaded Mountain Lion on my IMAC and now neither my email or Safari are working. Do not believe I can find anything that came with the computer it is about four years old. Can anyone help me?? I am on my ipad doing this.
After ALL updates were completed both email and safari working just fine.

I just have just downloaded Mountain lion and I wanted to listen to music on my computer screen with my HDMI cable plug into my back of my screen and I wanted to talk to dictation on my regular standard iPhone headphone and I was wondering if it's all possible change your settings Mac Mini to set it so you can listen to those both like your headphones and use the mic in your headphones and there's no settings that would change in the Mac Mini so do there is a flaw in this system or I am just really really really really dumb.
You computer is probably perfectly repairable, but if you want a new one anyway, it is perfectly possible to transfer the data from the faulty one.
But it would be a mistake to simply put the old HD in the new computer.
These are the steps:
Remove Hard drive from faulty computer. (very easy on Unibody MBPs, do-able but not so easy on older MBPs)
Put it in a cheap enclosure
Connect it the new computer
Boot up new computer.
If the new computer has never been run before the Setup Assistant will ask if you want to import your apps, data, settings etc from either another mac, another HD connected to the Mac or a Time Machine back up.
Obviously chose the second option (another HD connected to this Mac) and follow prompts.
If the new computer has already been run (so Setup Assistant doesn't run when you boot it up), you will need to use Migration Assistant...or run the installer again so that Setup Assistant runs again.

I have 2 computers, I need to download Mountain Lion for both of them, or just downloading it in one will do?
You can download it only once (as it's a 4.5GB file and does take some time to download) but after the download is complete, quit the installer and look in your Applications folder for a file named "Install OS Mountain Lion.app". Make a copy of this file to put on your other computer or, as Linc suggests, make a bootable ML install drive to use on your other computer.
Just make sure that you don't install after the file first downloads - you'll need that file for your other machine.

Please read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. Step 1 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.” While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin. Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem? After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it. *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. hi all. i just downloaded mountain lion and it seems to have added an old password for admin at the start up, the old password was removed so all i had to do was press enter and off i go, i cant remember it, what to do now??

You can reset a Password (lost/forgotten) set on your Mac using 'Reset Password Utility' available with OS X Utilities tool. With OS X Mountain Lion, OS X Utilities tool can be generally found on a local hidden Recovery HD Partition if your Mac has one.
To check If your Mac has got a local hidden Recovery HD Partition, start your Mac holding COMMAND + R buttons. If you hold the keys pressed enough and there is a local Recovery HD Partition on your Mac, you will be presented with OS X Utilities window.
Click the 'Tool' menu item and choose 'Reset password'. Terminal window appears. Type 'resetpassword' into it and press 'Enter'. Reset Password window appears with User Account Names available on your Start-up Volume. Select the User Account Name and rest is simple to follow.
One of the advantages of this method is that it does not require any Authorization method such as administrative authentication to reset a password.
NOTE: If your Mac does not have a local hidden Recovery Partition on its system disk, you can create one using Disk Assistant application available from Apple. Search for the Disk Assistant in the support area. -
I just downloaded Mountain Lion and everything is working great. But i keep getting an error in the app store and i can't download 'Pages' or any other apps. I keep getting an "error" and it says credit card processing is temporarily unavailable......help
Try deleting the cache associated with the App Store.
Quit the App Store if it's open.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/Cache.db
Click Go
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Launch the App Store. See if that made a difference... -
Just downloaded mountain lion. Have 2 different e-mail accounts but now they come in together. How can they be separated like they were in snow leopard?
Mountain Lion, like Lion before it, now has a combined Inbox and there's no way to separate it as such, though if you click the disclosure triangle to the left of the Inbox icon, you can see individual Inboxes below the primary.

I just download mountain lion to my mac, now microsoft office suite doesn't work....it says 'you can't open the application 'microsoft word' because PowerPC applications are no longer supported. What does this mean and what do I have to do to fix it?? HELP!!
Install Snow Leopard on another boot partition, or upgrade Microsoft Office to a newer version, or use any number of better alternatives. Some of them are free.

In addition to the above I also recommend Apple's Pages ($19.99). I use OpenOffice and Pages and have been completely Microsoft - free for over a year now. Life is better without Microsoft. -

Just downloaded Mountain Lion 10.8.2 to my iMac and now none of my hundreds of Appleworks documents won't open. What a disaster! What can I do?
To resize the drive do the following:
1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
After the main menu appears select Disk Utility and click on the Continue button. Select the hard drive's main entry then click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
2. You should see the graphical sizing window showing the existing partitions. A portion may appear as a blue rectangle representing the used space on a partition.
3. In the lower right corner of the sizing rectangle for each partition is a resizing gadget. Select it with the mouse and move the bottom of the rectangle upwards until you have reduced the existing partition enough to create the desired new volume's size. The space below the resized partition will appear gray. Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed. (Note: You can only make a partition smaller in order to create new free space.)
4. Click on the [+] button below the sizing window to add a new partition in the gray space you freed up. Give the new volume a name, if you wish, then click on the Apply button. Wait until the process has completed.
You should now have a new volume on the drive.
It would be wise to have a backup of your current system as resizing is not necessarily free of risk for data loss. Your drive must have sufficient contiguous free space for this process to work.
Now boot your computer using your Snow Leopard DVD:
Booting From An OS X Installer Disc
1. Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
2. Restart the computer.
3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
4. Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo
appears.
5. Wait for installer to finish loading.
Follow onscreen instructions to install Snow Leopard. Just be sure you select the new partition you created as the installer's target so you don't erase your Mountain Lion system. -

Restore the system from your Time Machine Backup.
Just downloading and Installing OS X Mountain Lion does not Delete anythng. That is a User choice and not really even a choice during the normal install of Mt Lion.
So it was Not Mt Lion that Deleted everything, that was you that made that choice during the install.
Maybe you shouldn't of made those choices with a computer you needed to use for school. -
I just tried to download Mountain Lion on my Mac Pro and it says that I can't install it on this computer.
