I just downloaded music in a .flac format. how do i get that into my itunes library so i can listen to it on my iMac, iPhone and Sonos?

iTunes is not capable of playing songs in FLAC format.
To use the music in iTunes get a 3rd party converter such as Switch and create versions in an iTunes compatible audio format such as MP3, AAC, Wav or AIFF.
Keep the original FLACs on hand for times when you are using a more capable music player.

You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.

First, please don't shout.
Second, don't post personal information.
Third, restore, if iTunes will let you. Everything except the password will be restored. Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. Be forewarned that it takes a long time. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

You are sure that it is not in the More tab of the Music app on the iPad, where you should find synced audiobooks?

I have a similar problem. I recieved an IPAD for my birthday, and my daughter updated my itunes library so i can use it with the ipad...and somehow all my songs (unpurchased from itunes, and downloaded from a large collection of CDs) ...and play lists were deleted. Despite all the snarky and misleading replies you most certainly CAN quickly and easily get a refund for an accidental purchase, and Apple has provided a way to request refunds for exactly this reason.
- Go to your Account information page in iTunes
- Go to your purchase history
- Click "Report a Problem" at the bottom
- Then click "Report a Problem" next to the app you accidentally purchased.
- This will bring you to a browser page with a pull down menu where you can select "Didn't Mean To Purchase This Item".

Since Apple explicitly offers the "Didn't Mean To Purchase This Item" in that menu they are obviously well aware of the fact that many such instances occur.
Since they don't have a confirmation screen or pop up a single inadvertent click could easily lead to a costly unintended purchase, and if they didn't offer just as easy a way to get a refund they'd be mobbed with suits.
