i just got mac defender attacked. i entered my password but did not register...what do i do. and once i am able to get rid of it how do i make sure my computer is completely safe? what anti malware product should i get (purchase or for free)??

That teh MacBook cannot connect with RWW because it requires Active-X to connect. That MAc browsers (Safari) do not use Active-X but only Windows (IE) uses Active-X control.
It would seem to me that there must be a way around this. Any help?

You still have 148GB for storing your music, vidoes and Podcasts. That's quite a lot.
My music library is currently 115.78GB and is a mixture of songs at various Bit Rates. (The higher the Bit Rate, usually, the better the quality.) It has more than 17,000 songs and will play (non-stop) for 58 days.
If your Library becomes (or already is) larger than this, it is possible to set iTunes to automatically manage the content, by removing (for example) recently played songs (except any specific ones you always want on your iPod) and then to put back onto the iPod songs that haven't been played for a while.

Create your Library of music and - my advice is - to use Sync to add everything to your iPod. In other words, do not use Manually Manage. In the long run, Sync is easier. You can still fully control what is on the iPod using Sync. Again, if you need help, this is the place to ask. Generally speaking, the more points a user has, the more people feel that have been helped by that user.

I wouldn't take the original post too seriously - I may of course be naive but it sounds like it could be a troll to me!

I am only fairly familiar with mac, but am very familiar with PC. I just got a good deal on a PowerMac G4 at an auction from an old imaging company for practically free and its in pretty much brand new condition, barely used.
It has OS X 10.2.8, jaguar I believe. 896mb of memory and 350mhz processing speed.
It is slow as all get-out. I want to know what I need to upgrade to and the cheapest way to do so. I WILL be using PRO TOOLS and FINAL CUT on this computer extensively. What is the best OS X system to support these two main programs? I need whatever system to of course support the firewire ports.
Please let me know any info you have will be appreciated. I am a student and will be using this for editing music and video for school.

Unfortunately you posted in the MacPro usage forum. These are Intel based and are the latest Towers Apple offer. Yours G4 is about ten years old. My G4 is 9 years old and was a 450 Dual (since upgraded) so, not knowing exactly what you have, I'm pretty close guessing it's ten years old (AGP Model?).
For general ?'s, like how to repair or what version of OSX you can run, post that in the G4 usage forum. If you want to upgrade the G4, RAM, proccessor, etc. post that in the G4 expansion forum.
My notes, you can upgrade the processor but you will be putting in more money then the G4 is worth. I did it to mine cause I got one on sale and still needed the machine. Even with the bigger processor it's still slow compared to todays Macs because it has a low bus speed. Nothing you or I can do about that. I also added as much RAM as possible. That has gotten cheaper now.The highest OS you could use is Tiger. You will need at least 256MB of RAM, but most of us feel it should be 512MB or higher.
Leopard requires a 867MHz processor or higher and will run on a G4 if upgraded.
You will need as high a version as possible to run Pro Tools and Final Cut and plenty of RAM.

If you're unsure about the specific Mac model you have, you can plug in its serial number here and it will give you the model and its specifications. (provided by Majordadusma)

Bootcamp - Seems there is no Support for Windows 8.1 once it is loaded. Just got off the Microsoft Help line and they refused to help me because I was running Win 8.1 in Bootcamp. Where do I go for help?

I Just got off the Microsoft Technical Help line (Australia ph132058) and they refused to help me because I am running Win 8.1 in Bootcamp.
I have the latest Mac Book Pro Retina with a 1TB Solid State Hard drive running Win 8.1, beautiful machine, but its slower than my old MBP running windows 7 on a standard Drive.
The niggiling problem is that it seems to hang up for seven or 8 seconds on menial tasks........ like generating a new Folder or Note etc. Otherwise it runs reasonably well but not blindingly fast....
I wasn't aware Microsoft refused to help win 8.1 users on the Mac Platform........ shouldn't this Information be made more public...! Seems they are keen to drive potential Windows users away!!
Any suggestions on where I should go for help on this (Windows/Bootcamp in General) would be much appreciated ? ........ don't mind paying a reasonable price if the service is good......
I guess the wheel has turned and Microsoft are having a go at Apple again...?

I was thinking along the same lines. I installed Win 8.0 Pro and upgraded to 8.1 ........ probably a bad move.
I have bought a new 8.1 Licence but cant risk doing a complete reinstall until I have a back up machine ready. (My old MBP is getting a new hard drive) ......... so will give that a go in about a weeks time when the back up is in place. Cant risk having nothing!
When you say "Clean Install" ..... do you mean everything ..... as in Reformat the Bootcamp sector and start from scratch.?
I have a 2 TB LaCie Thunderbolt drive with my back up data on ..... is there a way to make the Reinstall process and large amount of Data transfer easy?
The reinstall is something I need to read up on. I was hoping the solution might be some kind of Tune up on the SSHD.
Good to hear you have a number of MBP's that are flying, I would be disappointed if the final quality wasnt a bit better.
..... do you have any tips on screen Res on the Retina ..... I am running Windows at 125% Zoom, but the Bluetooth, power, wireless, Date Icons etc are all still tiny ...... could really do with an alternative to the old "Advanced Appearance Settings"

Boxed sets of iLife'11 include iDVD.
New macs shipping with Lion do not. The only iLife components included are iPhoto, iMovie, and Garageband.

Or find a boxed set of iLife'11 or iLife'09 and use "custom install" to install iDVD only, then run software update.

Just got my ipod need help with movies!

I just got my ipod, I have put all my music on to it just fine. I downloaded quick time pro. I watched a tutorial on the site saying if I just need to select the file and choose the export to Ipod option and it will appear on my ipod. Well this did not work, I have exported atleast 3 videos and do not know were they go? They did not change format and they did not appear on my ipod or in my itunes movies or library. I have no clue what to could someone plz tell me what to do to get my movies on to my ipod.

i always found my videos that i converted with QT7Pro in my documnets folder. Adn fromt here i simply draged them to my itrunes library upon which after syncing my ipod they appeared there next.
Also before asking questoning about movies and geting them on your ipod lok here and follow the instructions exactly and ask your questions on the software on their forums.

Don't fret.
Find a copy of Leopard (call Apple Customer Support and tell them that you have a machine that can't run Snow Leopard).
You could also go to eBay.
After that, install it:

Just got mac pro want to reinstall whole system but.....

I just purchased a mac pro on ebay but it didnt come with the installation disks, nor i guess the os disk. I would love to reinstall the whole os and computer to start like i got it brand new. I have the disks that came with my macbook pro. could i use those? Would i be able to go to apple store and ask them for the installation disks for the mac pro. Would there be anyway to keep the pro programs that are on there now?

If you don't own the pro apps, you can't really use them. If the seller sold it "as is" and "used" Apple probably can't help (and unlikely ebay is a recognized "dealer").
You should definitely wipe the drives... totally zero them out at the least.
With MacIntel, you can't even purchase the OS Installer disks.
You can of course use normal OS X backup programs to copy to another drive in the meantime.

iPods can be used on as many computers as you like. If it is set to update automatically just connect it to your computer and it will syncronise with your iTunes library and update itself. If you are unfamiliar with iPods you'll find all you need to know to get started on this page: iPod nano Fast Start: The New User's Guide to iPod nano
You might also want to Rename your iPod. Once you have read the introduction page and have your iPod loaded up just follow the instructions below.
Select your iPod in the iTunes Source list.
Click on it's its name again.
The text box will open for editing.
Type a new name.

MacBook pro just got dead really quick, help

So, I came home from school the other hour and opened my MacBook, and found it off and unresponsive. It wouldn't come out of sleep mode, which I had previously left it in; it wouldn't turn on after I held the on button a couple of times. The only clues I have are...
1. When I plug it in to charge, the green light on the charger is blinking dimly, not normally.
2. My I put my ear on it I can hear a very very soft buzzing noise.
It has not showed previous signs of turning off. Well, a month or 2 ago the clicking on the trackpad broke. Not tapping or gesture just clicking. It has suffered slight physical damage from being battered around in my backpack also. Could you please help me?
Ps: the computer won't work at all; I'm just typing this from my iPhone.

This does not make me hopeful.   Once damage gets physical, it is only a matter of time before other things go wrong. The only hopefully possibility is if the machine is at least 4 years old.   The PRAM battery starts to die, and causes all sorts of components to start to fail on their own.
If it is under 4 years old, sometimes a simple zap of the PRAM, or reset of the SMU can help:

Good luck. Next time, get a better bag, and make sure it doesn't get banged around. If that's not possible, ask your teachers to pay for your computer and tell them you can't be rushed.   Otherwise, you lose money in a lost computer.
