I just had a thought regarding iPhone theft...
If an iPhone is stolen and then shut off, it cannot be tracked anymore using "Find My iPhone".
What if there had to be a password (same or different from lock screen) that had to be inputted to allow the iPhone to be shut off.
Another idea would be to enable the iPhone to still be tracked even though it's powered off. Obviously this would have some battery drain while it was off, but I'm just spitting out my thoughts...
2 things come to mind immediately in the way of guesses as to why something like this hasn't been implemented.
#1: The iPhone, like any computing device, can suffer any number of problems that can cause it to hang, freeze, or become unresponsive.
Imagine what things would be like if a Windows PC had to be taken in to the shop every time it stopped responding to the keyboard and mouse because you couldn't enter the required password to shut it down (we'll pretend they have their own, non-removable power supplies for this thought experiment).
#2: The inability to power down an electronic device in the event that you can not enter a password creates an unacceptable safety hazard and the device would likely not be approved for sale in most countries.

My iPhone 5 was distroyed so I replaced it with a new iPhone 5 yesterday. I did a restore from a backup that i had performed a week ago. When I tried to use the phone several of my apps would not let me in becuase they continually gave me a popup message "Connect to Itunes to use push notifications". I click ok and the popup comes back. I have shut my phone off several times. I have complete closed the apps several times. I have even deleted the apps from my phone and reinstalled. All to no avail. Please help - does anyone know how to fix this?
Yes - I connected my phone to my computer / Itunes and went into the apps section, but from there I have no idea how to manage the push notifications. I even tryied going into itunes that is installed on my phone. I still cannot find anyplace to manage these popups. I have also gone into settings - notifiations - and tried turning all notifications for these apps all off but that didnt work either. Any guidance is MUCH appreciated - Im not sure where to go from here.

please can anyone help? i have had my iphone 3gs for only a couple of months and im already fed up!!! i transfered music onto it for my holidays but it wouldnt play. so after hours trying different things decided to restore it and start again. but it wouldnt restore properly saying error 6. so now my phone has the original connect to i tunes screen and nothing else!!!

I just had to have my iphone reset and lost all my contacts. I see that there is a place now on itunes but its wanting to synch with either outlook, google or yahoo and I just want to put my contacts from my phone into a back up. Can this be done or do I need to get the moblie me in order save them?You have not transferred photos from your iPhone to your computer for the past two years?
I guess these were not important photos, then. Because if they were, you would take proper precautions.

I just had to replace my iphone because i lost my first one, when i sinced with itunes it is outdated by a full year. every thing since 6/25/10 messages contact phone history etc is not there. how do i get it current, all updates etc where done on lost one???

Not if automatic syncing on connection is disabled in iTunes preferences. Then the phone backs up only when manually syncing or manual backup. Check this pref setting:
iTunes Prefs > Devices > Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically. It that is selected, you have to manually sync or backup.
In that section you should see a list of all iPhone backup stored by device. What is the latest one showing? -

I unfortunately just got my IPhone 4s stolen.I thought I had the find my iPhone enabled but I didn't because I cannot locate the phone when I sign in ICloud.I have a password on the phone but i'm not sure if I turned on the option where the phone resets if you incorrectly put the password more than ten time. I immediately called my phone company (Verizon) and reported the phone stolen.So I know whoever took the phone cannot place calls or use the phone. But can they still access my data on the phone if they manage to unlock the phone? If so how can I erase all data on the phone so the thief can't access my personal information? is there any other way other than Find my IPhone to wipe off the data on the phone? I really don't want my personal information such as pictures, text messages, notes and social networks profile available to a stranger!!? Help please!!!

You are able to activate an old device and process an insurance claim for your iPhone 4s within 60days from the incident date. Keep in mind if the old phone is not a smartphone and you currently have unlimited data that feature will fall off. If you have a tier data plan no changes will be made. iMac, just had repaired new Harddrive erase deverything,wheres my iPhoto n all those apps, i know the gone from hard drive but i thought they would transfer from my phone? HELP ?
Those Apps would not transfer from your iPhone because the iPhone apps are iOS 5 based and the iMac apps are OSX based. They are not the same Apps. You will need to transfer the OSX based apps over from your external hardware backup you have kept up, Or you can reinstall the OSX based apps from their original DVD's.

You can try resetting your iPhone by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears.
Try again to see if the problem persists. -

You need to download the free Find my iPhone application from the App Store.

You should be importing pics to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera. Nothing should only be on your iphone. You should keep everything on your computer.
If you have failed to do this, then they are gone.
You can try restoring from backup. -
