I just had the hard drive replaced in my IMac and it only at 1 to 1 or maybe 2 to 1 speed. my old one did over 10 to 1. car it be speeded up?

Any way to get hard drive to read/ write faster?

Go back to about this Mac, click on more info, and then on System Report (I think that's what it says in lion - not on Lion right now); you will get a window like this:
Scroll down to serial ATA and it'll show all the info about your hard drive.
Since you had Apple replace it, I would address the problem with them - even if you're not under warranty, the replaced part has a warranty, so I'd explain what is happening and politely demand an explanation.
45 minutes is a tad excessive for a normal CD unless you're burning at 1 x speed?

  • I just had the hard drive replaced in my computer under the Seagate 1TB Hard Drive replacement program.  I backed up my files prior using Time Machine.  Everything is back as it should be but I do not understand how to replace iLife app to access my photo

iLife apparently was installed on the iMac at the time of the purchase. How do I get the program back on the machine. The Apple "Genius" at the Apple Stpore advised me to go to the iTunes store and get a download. How do THEY know that I have iLife? If the store in fact did install the program at purchase how do you get a copy to reinstall on the machine?
    Larry

iLife is preinstalled on all the Macs. If you purchased iLife in the App Store or your computer came without DVDs, open App Store > Purchases and download the applications. If your Mac came with discs, insert the Applications DVD and install iLife applications

  • I just had my hard drive replaced and restored everything from a Time Machine external hard drive backup and now my "note" widgets won't load. Any ideas ?

I just had my hard drive replaced. I restored it using a Time Machine backup on an external hard drive. When I open Dashboard none of my "note" widgets will load. The other widgets open, such as weather, weather radar, calculater, dictionary, stock...  Even the iPhoto Mini widget works, just not the notes ( Sticky Notes and K-Notes ).  Any ideas on how to fix this ?

I did some research and found the solution to my problem. So I hope it's okay to answer my own question.
When you reinstall the OS, your Preferences go back to their default settings. Apparently Preferences is where this widget information is stored. This Preferences folder is located in the user Library folder which is hidden by default. You can access it using "one, or the other" of the following actions.
Action 1:      (1) In the Finder, choose Go > Go To Folder
                         (2) In the Go To Folder dialog, type ~/Library
                         (3) Click Go
                                                          -- OR --
Action 2:     Hold down the option (alt) key when using the Go menu. The Library folder is listed just                            below the Home folder.
After opening the Preferences folder, the file that you want to locate for k-notes is named
    widget-com.rakoth.lichlord.widget.k-notes.plist
After you locate it make note of the byte size of the file. Now, with the Preferences folder still open, open Time Machine and go back in time until you see a big jump in the file size. That will be your uncorrupted plist. Restore it and close Time Machine.
    Then Restart your computer.
After following this procedure I brought up Dashboard and my blank k-notes were now refilled with the previous text and color that occupied them before I had to restore the OS.
This procedure also worked for Sticky notes, which in the Preference folder are named
    widget-com.apple.widget.stickies.plist

Music Rescue also works as far as restoring your playlists etc. I've used it twice, you can use the Quick Recover mode, but have to click continue trial (something like that) allot, cp. to purchase option. Otherwise diesel is right as far as restoring via  your purchase history.
Here is a review of Music Rescue.

    Hey chukrking,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The following article provides relevant troubleshooting information for your issue:
Troubleshooting printer issues in OS X
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3147
USB printers and Bonjour-enabled network printers
Follow these steps until the issue is addressed:
    1. Make sure that the printer is powered on, has ink / toner, and that there are no alerts on the printer’s control panel. Note: If you cannot clear an alert on the printer's control panel, stop here and check the printer's documentation or contact the manufacturer for support.
    2. Ensure the printer is properly connected to a USB port on the Mac or AirPort base station / Time Capsule. If the printer is a network-capable printer, make sure that it is properly connected to your home network.
    3. Use Software Update to find and install the latest available updates. If an update is installed, see if the issue persists.
    4. Open the Print & Scan pane or Print & Fax (Snow Leopard) pane in System Preferences.
    5. Delete the affected printer, then add the printer again.
If the issue persists, try these additional steps:
    1. Reset the printing system, then add the printer again.
    2. If the issue still persists, reset the printing system again.  Download and install your printer's drivers. Then, add the printer again.
    3. Contact the printer vendor or visit their website for further assistance.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

Hi i bought a Macbook Pro 8 & a half mounths ago.Today i had the hard drive replaced as it was faulty and on Monday i have to take it back to the Apple shop to have the Motherboard replaced. I feel that i should be asking for a new macbook, where do i stand.

Yes thats what i thought but i only have 77 days left on my garentee so its a worry, and have to drive 1 hour to get to closest Apple shop, spent the whole day there today when i should have been at work and have to make the drive again on Monday Then back again next Friday to pick it up. I paid over £1000 ponds for this computer so wouldnt expect it to have its insides replaced befor a year. Feel very let down, and no longer love my macbook pro.

  • My mac won't recognise my new belkin hub hardware. Any Suggestions? It used to recognise it before I had the hard drive replaced

My mac won't recognise my new belkin hub hardware. Any Suggestions? It used to recognise it before I had the hard drive replaced and now it doesn't.

Pull out all of your USB devices, and reboot. Now, replace the USB devices they way you'd like them to work. That reassigns the devices so you can use them again.
Respond here...I'm interested how this turns out.

  • I have just had my hard drive replaced,I downloaded my files to a hard drive and now when I try to re start my iMac it ask's me to enter my pass word I do that but it's not recognise my pass word, what do I do?

I have had a new hard drive installed in my imac,I down loaded my files to a external hard drive, when I tried to re start,it asked for my password,I typed it in and it did not recognise it and I can't use my computer!can anybody help me please!!

Not sure why it's happened, but you could try resetting the password. These instructions work for Lion & Mountain Lion. If you're on Snow Leopard you'll need to use the install disk that came with the Mac.

  • HT2476 I recently had the hard drive replaced on my Macbook Pro; now the app store icon is missing from my dock

When my hard drive was replaced by Apple, I had to re-install iTunes myself. Then I noticed that there was a question mark on my dock where the App Store Icon was supposed to be. I did a software update, and now the question mark is gone. How do I get the App Store Icon back on my dock?

Locate it in the Apps folder and drag it to the dock.

  • I just had my hard drive replaced on my Mac after my other one crashed. However, I've lost iPhoto! Any way to get it back w/all my pics?

After my hard drive on my iMac (2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 duo) crashed, the tech guy installed a new hard drive and was able to recover most things for me. I lost all my bookmarks and my iPhoto, with hundreds of photos. I have Maverick installed. I have a 1.5TB external hard drive and it shows iPhoto, iDVD, iTunes, etc., but it doesn't allow me to open any of them. How can I see what's in these icons if it won't open because it's in a Time Machine backup?

How old is this Time Machine backup? Is it current?
To be able to use applications and your iPhoto library and iTunes library you need to restore them from the Time Machine backup.  To get your photos back, you need to restore the iPhoto Library from your Pictures folder, and to reinstall the iPhoto application.
This would have best been done, when you reinstalled the system using Setup assistant. http://pondini.org/OSX/SetupLion.html
Did the Tech Guy not use your Time Machine backup to restore your Mac?
Since you already set up your Mac, you can use the Migration Assistant from Applications > Utilities to restore your old files to a new user account.
    http://pondini.org/OSX/MigrateLion.html
To reinstall iPhoto: Did iPhoto originally come preinstalled on your Mac, and what was the MacOS X version that came with your Mac?  Or did you buy the iLife installer package?

  • I had my hard drive replaced by Geek Squad and iPhoto is no longer on my MacBook Pro. How do I reinstall withouth paying?

I can't seem to find it in Purchases as other threads have suggested.

How did you initially install iPhoto and the other iLife applications? Did it come preinstalled on your Mac with Snow Leopard and does your mac have install disks? Your signature says 10.6.8.
Then iPhoto is on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one; then only select  to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only'.
This should restore iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand.
If iPhoto did not come preinstalled, and you bought the iLife applications separately on DVD, use this DVD to reinstall.
But if you bought iLife bundled with a Lion or Mt. Lion installation, you should be able to download again from the AppStore. Have you signed into the AppStore with exactly the same AppleID you used, when you set up your Mac?
How did you restore your other applications? If you restored by migrating your applications and data from a backup, iPhoto should have been included.

    Léonie
