I just have the logic board replaced

but everytime when I turn on the machine, I need to reset the
NVRAM (command->option->p->r) to have it boot up successfully.
Otherwise, all I can heard is the "bong" sound and the screen is kind of dark grey, no apple logo and spinning wheel.
Anybody knows what happen?

Try to press Alt when starting your Macbook to get the boot selector and select the boot disk with OS X, then select it again on "startup disk" system preferences and restart.
If it doesn't work, try to reinstall OS X.

Test while started in Recovery : if the problem persists, then it likely is a hardware issue.
Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) probably won't change anything, but you can readily do it before contacting the repairers.

  • We just had our logic board replaced on our G4 2005 model is this common?

I have done some looking and seems the older G3 and G4s had this problem so maybe ours was a rarity. Also in my research seems apple came up with a separate coverage so do we need this in addition to the applecare extended warrantee?

Wow! Didn't know I would be bashed for being consise. It is a G4 ibook we bought it Oct. 2005, (this is b/c I noticed in other posts that the G4 ibook date back to 2002). Not sure how else to put it as it was in my post earlier, "we just had our logic board replaced on our G4 ibook (which is stated in the original at the bottom corner as the brilliant apple people have designed to keep these consise) 2005 model is this common," then in the message it goes on to say that I have found other posts and other sites that have people typing about having to have their logic boards replace/repaired 2-3 times, ie this example below.

    Douglas,
Apple didn't knowingly sell faulty goods. Once the problem was identified, Apple stepped up to the plate with the iBook Logic Board Repair Extension Program (which is not a recall — they are being fixed when and if they fail, but have not been recalled), and your iBook still falls under the three-year plan.
If that is not satisfactory to you, please take the measures I outlined in my previous post to you.
Sorry to not be more specific in the first post, I figured since my search brought this issue up immediately someone out there would know about this.
And to the second response, no I don't have a clue the difference is, that is why I bought an apple, suppose to be easier for those of us who are computer challenged.

  • After having the logic board replaced, Time Machine will no longer backup my computer to the same backup files as before.

After having the logic board replaced due to bad NVidia chip, my Time Machine will no longer backup my computer to the current backup. Is there a way to reset something to get Time Machine to continue to use the same backup files as before for this laptop?

As far as TM is concerned you have a new computer, so it will make a new backup. If you don't have the space for both backups then erase your backup drive before backing up the computer.

  • I have a Macbook air which has had to have the mother board replaced twice.  It is starting to crash again a few months after the last disaster.  It is out of warranty and I am out of luck. The computer freezes frequently. Any recommendations?

My Macbook air has had to have the mother board replaced twice.  It is starting to malfunction again -- it frequently freezes when I am on the internet.  The screen also pixelates when I go from one page to another.  The warranty is expired.  Any recommendations?

    Hi angier,
How long has it been since the last logic board replacement? Was the previous repair(s) done by Apple directly or via an authorized service provider? If you're on MLB #3 and you're still seeing the same or very similar problems, I'd contact the place that did the service last, especially if it was in the past 90 days.
When you get a repair done through Apple, even if the machine is out of warranty, the service (and parts) carry a 90-day limited warranty. From my experience, Apple is often times flexible on this window as well especially if it's been a repeated repair.

  • New problem WITH the logic board replacement

    Hi Everyone,
I sent my computer in recently to get a whirring fan noise repaired, but after receiving my macbook, I have developed the whine.
They tell me they replaced the logic board, but I didn't even ask for one. Now I have a loud whine coming from the left side of my computer near the adaptor.
I guess my question is, is it possible to develop the whine after the logic board has been replaced and why Apple replaced a logic board which had no whine.
    Thanks for the help.

You will not be able to order a logic board from Apple.  You can look at websites such as iFixit.com and Powerbookmedic.com where Apple MBP parts are available.  Costs will be shown there.  In additions there are instructions available if you prepared to install it yourself.
    Ciao.

  • Just had my logic board replaced, dim screen with no brightness control

My MacBook Pro 17 inch was just in for repair due to the nvidia 8600 issue (no video, Mac won't boot, etc.). I have it back as of this afternoon but when I turned it on the screen is unbelievably dim -- almost as if I have the brightness at the second-to-lowest level.
Here's the catch: when I attempt to use the brightness control, either via F1/F2 keys or in System Preferences the brightness will not change. The icon overlay shows up on the screen as if it is working but the screen brightness just doesn't work.
When I bring the brightness indicator all the way down, to the point where the screen would normally shut off, the screen stays on...but it's just the same dim screen.
    Any ideas?

  • After having the logic board replaced on my Macbook Pro I can no longer access my photos in iPhoto

    When I try to I get an error message the following error message;
Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iPhoto again. If the problem persists, try rebuilding your photo library. To do this, quit iPhoto, and then reopen it while keeping the Option and Command keys pressed. You can also try restoring your photo library from a backup.
I've done all of the above except for restoring from my back up. Is someone able to advise how I do this please? I've backed up the whol computer in the past but not one application. Thank you.

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Loud fan after logic board replaced

I just had the logic board replaced on my 17" iMac after it would not power up (apple did it for free because they said it was one of the defective boards). The fan now is VERY loud. I have tried reseting the SMU, setting the CPU speed to something other than automatic. Nothing seems to work. Top say the machine is idle 95% of the time... Before the board was replaced it was VERY quiet... Any ideas?

    fxmBoston-
Greetings and welcome to the Apple boards.
Miriam is right. Take it back and have it repaired correctly. We have good consumer laws in MA so they have three chances to get it repaired correctly or they owe you a refund or a new machine.

  • Logic Board Replaced -Nvidia Control Panel Missing

    Hello kind readers and helpers,
My laptop had to have the logic board replaced (twice) because of a faulty Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT card.
Upon its return, the Nvidia Control Panel was missing from the System Preferences and I'm now limited to the
adjustments I can make to the screen. The Nvidia Control Panel used to be there before the board got replaced.
I really need access to more detailed adjustments as I edit photos and video on my laptop and the current
display setting adjustments available in system preferences are just not cutting it... I need my Nvidia Control Panel
    back!!
Can anyone tell me how to achieve this? I went to the NVidia website to try to download the drivers, but they
have no support for laptops!! Ough, faulty graphics chips and no laptop support!! Really?!
    Please help me guys!!!
    Thank you so  much! =)

    Hello guys,
Just FYI, with the Nvidia Control Panel the resolutions available to me were much higher than those available in the display system preferences; 2048 x 1536 at 85Hz (VGA) and  2560 x 1600 at 60 Hz (DVI). Now, the highest resolution available is 1920 x 1200.
Thank you for your time and support! =)
Ahhh, now it's making sense. You have a 17" (I have a 15"). 1920x1200 is the highest resolution possible on the built-in 17" display. Your MBP can output 2560x1600 to an external display, but that's dependent on the external display's capabilities. I wonder if that Sys Pref you're asking about only shows with an external monitor? Would that fit your experience?

  • Prompted to sign in to trial version of CS6 after logic board replaced

Hello. I purchased CS6 10 months ago and just had the logic board replaced on my iMac. Now, when I open Photoshop on that computer, I get a dialogue box "Sign in Required to use your trial version of Creative Suite 6 Design Standard". I did that, but I don't see a way to enter and validate my product installation code so that Adobe recognizes this as a legitamately purchased version. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Since sending the first message, I closed and reopened Photoshop and was prompted to either continue with the trial version or enter a valid license key. I did the latter, so hopefully I'm back in business.

  • Logic Board Replacement - Older or Newer Revision?

I recently took my 2008 MBP Unibody in for a checkup due to a few issues I was having and they have shipped it out to have the logic board replaced. However, I was wondering if they still keep logic boards from the very first MBP Unibody around or if I would perhaps be getting a newer revision?
My interest in this lies in that the first revision supported SATA 1.5 and I would love for my SSD to be better utilized with one of the newer revisions.
Any ideas or thoughts? Has anyone else has any experiences?

    Kitsune wrote:
That's all I was curious about was if they kept parts for older macbooks.
Yes, they do, up to a certain point. What that point is, I don't know, but I'm sure it's three years (AppleCare), and maybe a bit beyond.

  • Has the NVidia GeForce 8600M GT logic board replacement program been extended by a year?

I have heard that the logic board replacement program for MacBooks Pro with the failed NVidia 8600M GT chip has been extended from 3 to 4 years after the date of original purchase. However, a local AASP had no knowledge of such an extension. Is this true? I have a MacBook Pro 17" 2.6GHz that was purchased in 2008.

Actually it was within the time frame, it felt like it was just last month, when it was like several months ago.
Just dragged the 15" recently out to see to use it for testing *cough* and low and behold it's worthless now.
The problem I have is I told them at the Genius Bar the video was going, but couldn't prove it as it was very rare it occured.
