I just hooked up my I pod 4th gen to down load songs and it said it wanted to download new version of software after download it went into restor mode...will i loose all pictures and songs?

I just hooked up to my computer to down load new songs it said new version of software is avalable, after down load I pod went into restor mode. Is there any way to get it to work beside the restore? and will I loose all my photos and vidios?

By the "restore iTunes symbol" do you mean a USB cable and the iTunes symbol? If so the device is in Recovery Mode and the device has already been erased and it needs to be Restored using iTunes. I am confused. Did you update the iTunes on your computer? You download the game to your computer? Of this all done with your computer and itunes you do not have a iPod problem and posting in the iTunes forum is more appropriate.

The issue I see is iTunes will complain that the phone has never been synced with that library before and will want to erase it. There may be various ways of dealing with that since apps and music can probably be downloaded a second time. Here's some general backup information:

I think you meant ALT + F...when I push that nothiing happens....there is no "devices" choice.

You are very welcome...few users realize that the recovery mode restore may need a few tries to get it to work...so often just add the caveat. There is a difference between parents and their children who have lived with technology all their lives

Did you by chance have photo stream turned on? If so then they might be there. When you restored your phone it deleted everything and they will be unretreivable from your computer.

With a corrupt disk, the install procedure is most likely going to fail.
How old it the disk?
You might be able to reformat it to fix the problem. Of course that means you lose all of your data.
The other alternative is to get a new disk drive and put that in your Mac and install OS X
Then put the old disk drive in an enclosure and see what can be recovered from it.

In order to use a different computer than what the device was originally synced with, you would need to use a 3rd party application to back the information up, prior to syncing with iTunes.
If you try to sync on a different computer than usual, you will get a message stating that it will wipe all data out and start from scratch... and it will erase everything.

You buy one and only one download. It is your responsibility to move/copy/backup your music.
You can try contacting itunes support and asking for an exception, but they are under no obligation to allow.

You should not update/upgrade/restore/etc without making sure that everything is backed up.

While playing any song on your iPod, tap the artwork to bring up the scrubber bar and additional controls. On the left hand side is a option for repeat. You want to make sure this icon is white (meaning it is set to Off). If it isn't tap it either one or two times to change its current setting.
