I just installed an apple TV (1st genertaion) and it doesn't mirror whay I see on my MacBook Air......isn't it capable to do so??....I saw that capability on the apple TV (3rd generation)
Try going to Settings on your Apple TV then click General>Then Scroll down to Software Update. Im not sure if certain Apple TV's were excluded from the new update but give that a shot.

If the movie was purchased on the AppleTV it wont show up in home sharing until that movie has been downloaded to an iTunes library. You can download previous purchases from the iTunse Store at any time. The article below goes over that process.

You may also want to take a look at enabling automatic downloads on your computer so that anytime you purchase content, it gets downloaded to iTunes.

I have an apple tv 1st generation, and there is a setting for airtunes. can someone tell me what this is and how to use it?
I've looked at that, but on my PC, "look for remote speakers connected with airtunes" isn't an option.
The only options I get are "prevent ipods [etc] from syncing automatically" , "warn me when [X %] of the data on this computer will be changed" and "forget all remotes". Its also got a list of backups I have saved, as well as a button to reset sync history.
When I am playing a song, the "airplay" button isn't even visible.
I am sure that the apple tv setting is on as well. Is there anything else you can help me with? -

my apple remote controllers (i have two) both now have no play/pause. i can navigate around the apple tv (from left to right and up and down) but cannot play or select anything. I have successfully paired/unpaired the remotes so the issue isn't here.
does anybody have a helpful tip? without being able to play /pause the apple tv is completely screwed.get yourself an ipad. it makes a great apple tv remote
on a serious note.. could it be possible you have super strong thumbs and have broken both the play buttons? do you have a macbook or something you can test the remotes on, other than the apple tv?
try a system restore if you can't get another remote to test it with. have you tried power on/off then re-pair remote? -
HT1498 I rented a movie on apple TV 1st generation and it will not download
I rented a movie from apple TV, normally it downloads immediately, but for some reason tonight it will not start. I check interent connection via speedtest and it was 8.0Mbps. I also purchased a movie to see if that would get it going and still nothing. Its as if the store is letting me buy it, but not allowing me to download it.
I have gone to the download section in settings. After logging in it says I have nothing to download.
I went back to the store attempted to purchase again, a message said I already purchased it, go to seeting\download to select it.

i just got an Apple Tv 1st Generation without cables. i want to connect it to my Mac and sync it with Itunes. Which cable should i get to be able to do that
If you want to transfer something off AppleTV to iTunes you can only do that for iTunes store purchases made on AppleTV, and only if they've never synced back to itunes before - when AppleTV appears in iTunes if you right click on the icon there may be a transfer purchases option.
Annoyingly there has never been a way to use AppleTV 1 as storage like an external drive to salvage video/music/photos by manually copying them to the computer - doing so would entail hacking or dismantling AppleTV to access the drive directly and even then might be less than straightforward.
The USB port on AppleTV1 is not for connecting/transfer of data but for 'diagnostic purposes'.

I have an Apple TV 1st Generation and I have lost the white remote control. I had installed the Remote App on my ipad and it was working fine but it seems to have lost the connection with the Apple TV and is not showing up the Apple TV when I go into the Remote App. I got a new white remote control but to get this paired I have to I have to unpair my lost remote. This is difficult to do as I have lost it! Does anyone have any suggestions how to get the new remote paired or to get the Ipad Remote app to work without going into SETTINGS > GENERAL > REMOTES in the main menu. Thank you!

Using the new remote, hold the remote close to and pointed at the Apple TV, hold down the menu and Rewind buttons together for 6 seconds or until you see a broken chain icon on screen. -

Cannot stream movies from itunes to apple tv 1st generation
Hi,
I have an apple tv 1st generation and whenever I'm renting movies I would like to play them via streaming on my TV. Unfortunately I have to wait until it's fully downloaded and then I have to transfer them to the Apple tv.
Can someone tell me if there is a way to be able to stream rented movies from Itunes to the apple TV without having to wait until it's fully downloaded?
I'm using a macbook pro with mac OS X 10.6.8.
Any help would be so much appreciated.

I have Apple TV, 1st generation. Just got a Netflix account on iPhone. There is no Netflix logo on my TV. When I go to the Internet option, only YouTube and Radio are on the drop down menu. WiFi is properly configured. Updates downloaded. How do I get Netflix on this tv? This 1st gen. Thanks in advance for any help.
Sorry it was bad news - the ATV 1's were fine machines in their day and still work well.
Newer features like Airplay, Netflix support, playbcak of purchases from teh 'cloud' etc are only on AppleTV 2 or 3.

Call up apple care, (08000480408 if you are in the UK) and ask them to change the postcode and request another replacement packet

I just found my old ipod touch (i think 1st generation) and would like to let my toddler use it instead of my phone. I am trying to download apps but it say I need to update to 4.3 but it won't let me update. I have the most recent itunes. any idea why? I saw a thread saying to purchase the newest software (that was posted a few years ago) I paid 4.95 for the software and it's still saying it can't be updated. Am I just SOL??
The 1G iPod can only go as high as 3.1.3. The 1G does not have an internal speaker or volume buttons on the upper left edge.

I wanna upgrade the Apple TV to Software Version 3.0.2 which is the last but all i get after downloading and installing the update is the same message

I have made over 20 Factory Restores but the same message all the time.
I changed the dns server to 8.8.8.8 and 208.067.222.222 but no luck with any of these solutions.
Can somebody help me please, so i can update my Apple TV.

The most annoying thing is that it downloads the update and when it starts installation of 3.0.2 then the message appears.

You cannot plug a USB dongle into an iPad using the USB part of the iPad Camera Connection Kit.
The Camera Connection Kit is for connecting cameras - hence the name.
You'd need to get a MiFi device to use 3G data via WiFo on your iPad.
