I just installed iphoto '06, all 3400 of my photos are missing HELP!

I went to my friendly apple store to visit the resident genius because all of the sudden I couldn't get my photos to open in photoshop elements (I had been able to prior) and I'm working on a huge project. He suggested that I would benefit greatly by simply buying iLife '06 and that it would also correct the problem. BIG MISTAKE. I have just finished installing. The installation was flawless. No messages. No problems. But when I went to iphoto...no photos. Just the dotted outlines and titles of photos. And I still can not open them in photoshop elements. It's probably been a photoshop problem all along, although genius boy thought iphoto. I actually do think I may have most of my 3400 photos backed up on cd somewhere around here...Can anyone advise, does anyone know why this happens? And why the apple folks aren't warning us with HUGE bright neon lights????
g4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   also have a imac G5

For starters, please clarify for us what you mean by: "all of the sudden I couldn't get my photos to open in photoshop elements"
If you start PSE (what version?) and try to "Open" an image file from the "File" menu, what happens?

  • HT4906 I just upgraded to the new iPhoto and all of my old pictures are missing.

As the title says. If I right click the library and open 'Packages', all of my old photos are in a folder called 'Originals' but do not appear when I open iPhoto. When I try to add them into iPhoto, I get an error telling me that they already exist. Can anyone help me figure out how to get them to appear in iPhoto?
    Thanks!

Before disassembling your library apply the two fixes below in order as needed to your library:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • All my Photos are Missing- HELP!!!

So I was running out of disk space on my computer and I wanted to make sure my photos would not be lost so I copied my iphoto library to an external hard drive.
Then I went back to my hard drive on my mac and deleted my iphoto library thinking i could access it from my external drive. However, when I did this, the iphoto library on my external hard drive went gray, and now both the computer and the external drive say I have no pictures. Is there any way to recover them... it is the last 5 years of photos

Welcome to the Apple user discussion forums
I copied my iphoto library to an external hard drive.
Exactly how did you do this?
Have you launched iPhoto while depressing the option (alt) key and using the select library option to tell iPhoto where your iPhoto library is now?
the iphoto library on my external hard drive went gray
Could you explain this a bit more please?
now both the computer and the external drive say I have no pictures
Exactly what did you do to determine this?
Is there any way to recover them
    Probably
It would help to know more abut where you are and what you have done do far - if you would answer the above it would help

Is this iPhoto on your Mac?  Are you referring to the photos that were in your iPhoto LIbrary prior to the upgrade to iPhoto 11?  If so then apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.

5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If that's not what you're referring to then you should describe what is happening in more detail. Remember we can't see your Mac or your iPhone so need detailed and accurate descriptions of what you're experiencing.
Also we need infomartion like do you have an iCloud account and are you logged into it on all of your devices, iPhoto and Mac? do you have Photo Stream enabled on both.

  • Just installed iPhoto 09 Can't get past first screen

I just installed iPhoto 09. When I first opened the program after installation, I was prompted to upgrade my photo library, I did so. On the next screen ("Look up photo locations"), I am prompted to click yes or no, but all I get is the spinning ball -- the program doesn't respond. I have tried rebooting the computer; I have tried deleting the com.apple.iphoto.plist Can't get beyond "Look up photo locations" no matter what I do -- and I don't even care about the locations!
Any other ideas? I have a Time machine backup (I hope!) I've never had to restore from it before, so may need guidance wit that too!
THanks in advance for your help. I'm beginning to regret my purchase...

Log into another account on your Mac and see if iPhoto will open and run there. If not then a reinstall of iPhoto is indicated. To do so you'll have to first delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder, reinstall iPhoto from the disk it came on and reapply the latest updaters.
If it does run OK in the other account then there's something in your main account that's the culprit. It could be a preference file other than iPhoto's. Here's how to see if that's the case:
    Trouble Shooting Preferences in Leopard
1 - Create a folder titled "Preferences A" on the Desktop.
2 - Open the working Preferences folder, HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences, and move the contents to the Preferences A folder on the Desktop.
3 - With the working Preferences folder empty run the application again and determine if the problems is fixed.
NOTE: you may have to drag the contents of the working folder to the trash and empty if moving the contents to the A folder only copies them instead of moving.
4 - If the problem is fixed:
A - open the working Preferences folder (HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences).
B - Open the Preferences A folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Preferences folder.
C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace button.
5 - If the problem is NOT fixed, empty the working Preferencess folder and move the contents of the Preferences folder on the desktop back into it.

Have you run the iPhoto Library Upgrader? You need to direct it to the location of your old iPhoto Library by clicking the "Choose Library" button in the lower right corner of the panel you are seeing when the upgrade starts.

  • Just installed iPhoto 6...It won't open!

Hello, everyone. I just installed iPhoto 6, and when I double click on the Application to open it, it bounces in the dock for a second, and then disappears. Any clue as to why this is happening?

Sounds like a faulty install. Best bet is to re-install it. Drag the iPhoto icon from your applications folder to the trash, then go to HD/Library/Receipts and trash any pkg file with iPhoto in the name. Then re-install.

  • All my photos are missing in iphoto 4.0.3.

All the photos are missing in my iphoto 4.0.3. The files are on the side under source but the screen also stays blank in every file. What to do?

I had a similar situation with some of my photos, not all of them. During help from a genius at Apple an error occurred and we feared I might have lost my photos. When the problem was "fixed", the photos showed up as being taken the same day and no longer in the original order. In addition numerous photos were gone.
I'm told the photos still exist on the HDD but just can't be found by iPhoto. If this is the case how do I find them? Would I be able to do a search for all jpg files to do this?
On a side note: I've backed up my HDD to an external drive and I'm about to erase my HDD and update Panther to Tiger. When I move the user files back to the HDD I plan on consolidating them into one user.
    Any insight is most appreciated.

    Where is your Library stored?

All my old photos are missing from iPhoto on my Mac- any one have ideas on how to retrieve?

Do you have a Time Machine backup or any backup of your Mac? Then you could try to restore from the backup.
If your photos are very important documents, you could also try data recovery software. Usually the trial versions are free, but if you want to safe the recovery photos you have to pay.  Disk Drill works well to recover jPEG photos, see:  http://www.cleverfiles.com/
It is still not obvious what might have happened to your iPhoto Library.  Have you searched for different iPhoto Libraries?
You can search everywhere with FindAnyFile, where Spotlight will not search.
I learned this  from Old Toad , see his post here:
Re: My iPhoto Library disappeared...how do I get it back?
Download and run Find Any File to search for a file with "ThumbJPGSegment" in the file name. These are files common to all versions of  iPhoto libraries.
FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages. If there's a library hiding somewhere on your hard drive FAF will find it.

My phone has been restored using iTunes.  All of my previous photo are downloaded. I'm unable to delete the photos from the phone - no trash bin.  It has utilized all my storage and I'm unable to use any of my apps.

    Hello there, Jeanne2919.
There is a great Knowledge Base article that is right up your alley:
iOS and iPod: Syncing photos using iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236
    Specifically this section:
To delete synced photos and videos
In iTunes, select the device icon in the Devices list on the left. Click the Photos tab in the resulting window.
    Choose "Sync photos from."
On a Mac, choose iPhoto or Aperture from the pop-up menu.
On a Windows PC, choose Photoshop Album or Photoshop Elements from the pop-up menu.
Choose "Selected albums" and deselect the albums or collections you want to delete.
    Click Apply.
To delete Camera Roll photos and videos
There are two methods to delete items from the Camera Roll:
Import the Camera Roll to your computer, choosing to delete items after import.
    or
Delete photos and videos from your device manually. Open the Photos application, open the Camera Roll, tap the Action button, tap each photo to select it, and tap the Delete button.
Note: For photos and videos you want to save for later, import them to your computer before deleting them from the Camera Roll.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities!
    Cheers,

  • All music in my library are missing after sync.

All music in my library are missing after synch, but it seems that its still in the phone cause I checked memory usage and it doesn't add up. And when I connect it to itunes and checked the memory usage bar in the bottom,  it seems that my music was categorized in "Others". I'm using iPhone 5s with the latest OS.

This has just happened to me, I've had songs in Music on my phone for years and suddenly, and randomly, they're greyed out and unplayable. This applies to some playlists and not others, to songs I've played on my phone even in the last week.
Damned infuriating and I can't yet find a resolution - Apple, what have you done this time!
