I just installed Snow Leopard 10.6.3, everything seems fine except I can't send email (I can receive email)
I have installed Snow Leopard 10.6.3. I can receive email, why can't I send email?
If you are not using your normal internet connection it could be that you need to obtain the web address for the smtp server (handles outgoing mail) for the connection you are using. Many internet providers will not let you use their smtp server if your connection is not on their network.
Hope this helps,
Ray

I had iLife pre-installed on my aluminium Macbook 2009 with OSX Leopard on it. My hard drive broke but got most of the info off it and just installed snow Leopard on to a new drive and then downloaded and installed Mountain Lion over it. Now I don't have iLife anymore. How do I get it back?
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Mac OS X doesn't come with iLife applications, so you have to install them manually after installing Mac OS X.
Insert the Applications disc or Mac OS X Install Disc 2 DVD and install iLfe applications. Then, open > Software Update, and install the latest update. If you want, you can purchase iMovie, GarageBand and iPhoto in the App Store, so you will get the most recent version -
Am running Tiger 10.4.11; just got Snow Leopard 10.6.3 (regular OS disk, not upgrade). When I install Snow Leopard, will it wipe everything? overwrite Tiger? Do I need to make backups of applications and files to reinstall after Snow Leopard Loads? thanks!
Hi Donald,
No it doesn't erase anything by default, it does what we used to call an Archive and Install feature, which can give you a new OS, yet preserve your files and settings if you have enough room on your HD...
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
But it does it automatically unless you specifically erase the Disk, but will replace Tiger completely for the OS & several Apple Apps like Safari, Mail, etc, yet preserve your old settings for those!
If you think you may need Tiger to run any APPs that do not work in SL/10.6, then clone or backup first.
I would recomend 2 things before installing though...
Make sure you have enough RAM & HD space.
Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
General requirements
* Mac computer with an Intel processor
* 1GB of memory (I say 2GB at least)
* 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
If it's a core Duo & not a Core2Duo, then it'll only run in 32 bit mode.
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the new Mac OS X SL/10.6 Install Disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Just installed snow leopard and it wont acknowlege my wireless keyboard
I just installed snow leopard an it wont acknowledge my wireless keyboard. says my keyboard is not "discoverable" Have turned it on and off, changed batteries etc. says it is connected to computer, but won't discover it
Restore from a Time Machine backup.
If you didn't backup your files prior to upgrading, you may be out of luck.

I have just installed Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and want to update my Safari 4.0.4 to the latest version. However, the latest Safari version needs at least Snow Leopard 10.6.8. What can I do, please?
Go to the Apple Icon, Top Left of your Screen and Run Software Update...
Or go here > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
and download and Install the 10 6 8 Combo Update...
Be sure to Restart your Mac after the Install. -
Just installed snow leopard and can't open any of my word docs?
Just installed snow leopard and can't open any of my word docs?
Depends on what you're doing; SL doesn't really support Office docs directly. In Snow Leopard, TextEdit can open Word docs, albeit with little fidelity for anything beyond text. Try iWork if you need to really work with Word docs (note that even then it's an import/export process and not native support).

I just installed Snow Leopard 10.6 on my 2007 Mac Probook. I need to upgrade my safari or install a newer version. How do I do this? I can't find any installation links.
Thank you for your response. I downloaded Safari 5.1.7. I don't know if I was successful because the system requirements called for 10.6.8, and I recently downloaded Snow Leopard 10.6.3

re: Migrating my IPhoto from Time Machine Backup to my just-installed Snow Leopard OSX... the program is there, all my photos are there..... but my photos had all been neatly arranged in folders, and there is absolutely no sign of my folders. What a mess, 20,000 photos. How can I restore my folders?
(iphoto 08)Restore the library from Time Machine as shown in this screenshot:
Then open the library with iPhoto. No importing necessary.

I have just installed Snow Leopard, (10.6.3) onto my Macbook Pro and so far it seems to be working fine except that I can't access my gmail account. I can sign in but the blue opening indicator freezes near the end and I can get no further. I'm a bit of a novice at this stuff - help please!
I would run the combo update to get to 10.6.8 in order to get the latest security updates and so forth. Then run Software Update until you system is current.

I was able to download any regular old document yesterday, normally - pdfs, jpegs, tiffs.... Now, when I try to download any file type, it saves as a .ashx....I just installed Snow Leopard yesterday and it's been doing it since then. It also does not even recognize the file name....just calls it "attachment(1,2,3,etc)"
So here is what else I've learned. First of all, the process of saving opened pdf documents used to work fine with Firefox. This new glitch did not occur before I down-loaded acrobat 10.1.6.
I went back and repeated the process of opening a pdf document from LexisNexis File & ServeXpress. When I clicked File > save as, I realized that it was prompting me to save as a text file. I had not noticed that before, and that must be why the saved document would not open, and I would receive a corrupted file message. (Again, this prompt did not exist in the previous version of acrobat).
The problem appears to be solved for me if I change the File > save as prompt to "All files." Saving it in that manner allowed me to successfully open the saved pdf document.
The other work-around is as follows. When the pdf document is opened in acrobat, there is an icon / button in the upper right corner of the opened document window that says "open with different viewer." If I click that, it lets me open in a previous version of acrobat, where the described problem does not occur. -

You may have to remove & reinstall the AMDS, as described in that support article. -
I've recently installed snow leopard and office for mac - now my computer is running very slowly - why?
Which version of office did you install? If its 2008 the early version had some problems and you will want to update the office software to i think it is 12.3.0
If it is 2011 you might want to do the same thing.
