I just ordered a macbook mc207ll/a  online that is running Sow leopard, will I be able to upgrade to yosemite?

Just make sure you update it to 10.6.8 (the last version of Snow Leopard) once you get it if it isn't running it already. Just go to the  menu and then Software Update. This will give you access to the App Store which is needed to download Yosemite.

No one knows for certain what the requirements for OS X Yosemite will be unitil it's released.

  • Restoring my Mavericks OS Macbook Pro (mid 2010) to Mountain Lion factory settings, will I be able to upgrade back up to Mavericks?

I have a Macbook Pro that has become bloated and really slow, so I backed up everyting to an external hard drive and want to restore my Macbook to factory settings. I have my orignal Snow Lepord install disk, but if I begin this process, will I be able to upgrade through SL --> ML --> Mavericks? Can I jump from SL to Mavericks? I downloaded both ML and Mavericks through iCloud on the App Store.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Instead of doing what you want, simply use the Recovery partition your Mac has got in order to reinstall OS X Mavericks.
Hold Command and R keys while your Mac is starting up to start up into OS X Recovery, and open Disk Utility. Then, select your OS X volume (normally labelled as "Macintosh HD") in the Disk Utility sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase it. Finally, close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X. You will get OS X 10.9.1.
By doing this, you will not have to reinstall Snow Leopard and go back to Mavericks

  • I just ordered a macbook air today and need to know if the 128gb SSD is enough space. I presently have a macbook pro and am using only 30gb hard drive space so, the apple rep said 128 is enough as I do not load much pictures or gaming etc. Also is i5 ok.

Id choose the I5 yes, depends on what your usage is going to be,
....your question about "128 gig being enough" begs the question for IDEALIZED USE of your macbook AIr
In the case of a Macbook Air with ‘limited’ storage on the SSD, this distinction becomes more important in that in an ever rapidly increasing file-size world, you keep vital large media files, pics, video, PDF collections, music off your SSD and archived on external storage, for sake of the necessary room for your system to have free space to operate, store future applications and general workspace.  You should never be put in the position of considering “deleting things” on your macbook SSD in order to ‘make space’.
*Generally, unless you NEED the data at least once every few weeks or once a month,...it really does'nt NEED to be on the SSD of your Macbook Air.
Professionals who create and import very large amounts of data have almost no change in the available space on their computers internal HD because they are constantly archiving data to arrays of external or networked HD.
Or in the case of the consumer this means you keep folders for large imported or created data and you ritually offload and archive this data for safekeeping, not only to safeguard the data in case your macbook has a HD crash, or gets stolen, but importantly in keeping the ‘breathing room’ open for your computer to operate, expand, create files, add applications, for your APPS to create temp files, and for general operation.
Ive got more APPS than any human should have on my 128gig AIR,..(50 or so),....and 10gig of working data, important files etc etc.
Still have 82gig available....... the entire point is that someone shouldnt consider the Air a "storage device" for tons of pics, music, vids, etc.
*Never consider any computer a data storage device at any time under any circumstance, rather a data creation, sending, and manipulation device. Anyone who thinks data is safe on any computer, even copied upon multiple partitions is making a mistake that will, without fail, strike.
For needs of packing around a LOT of "big data" with your Air in its case..., get a nice 1TB HD for $70, or even a 2TB drive not much bigger.
Perfect 2TB HD, very slim, the "little giant"   made by Toshiba (have several of these) $119

When I attempt to upgrade my 10.5.8 Macbook, I am told that I need at least a 10.6.6 to upgrade!!! And advice on how to avoid this Catch 22?

It's a requirement to access the App Store.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

All the information that I had input on Quicken is gone. I have to have the external hard drive that I use to back up to be able to use quicken now. It is as if it was erased from the laptop hardrive

Try repairing permissions. My favorite way is with a utility called AppleJack. Info and download here. It's free. It only works when you boot in Single User Mode. When restarting or booting, hold down the Command key and S keys.
You will get a very different startup screen that looks like the Terminal app has hijacked the screen. Just let the lines of text scroll by. When that happens you will get a text entry prompt. Type in "AppleJack" without the quotation marks.
A DOS looking menu will appear. Choose 1 or d to run Disk Repair. If you get a message that Disk Repair found and corrected errors, run it again. Repeat until you get the "your disk appears to be ok" message. This rarely happens with my experience, though. This does the same thing as as booting from an external drive and running Disk Utility's repair. Only, no external drive is required!
Next, choose 2 or p to repair disk permissions. This will take a little while. AppleJack warns that it will take up to an half hour to run repair permissions. It'n never taken more than about ten minutes for my MacBook Pro.
As permissions are repaired, you will see each repair scroll on the screen. When done, the menu returns, choose q to quit. Then at the prompt, enter "exit" without the quotes. Your MacBook Pro should restart into Mac OS normally after this.
    Hope this helps.

No. If it states designed for both iPad and iPhone, then it won't run on an iPod touch.

  • Just ordered a MacBook pro-what is Apple's policy on getting free upgrade to Lion once released this month

What is Apple's policy in terms of free upgrades for recently purchased systems. particularly a MacBook Pro ordered directly from Apple's online store and not yet received.

Any new Mac purchased on or after June 6th qualifies.  See the link below for details.
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/
If your purchase date on the invoice is on or after that date, it qualifies.

  • Just ordered new Macbook!

I just ordered a new macbook and I just have a question. I see there are a ton of rsd problems and there are some long waits on repair times. I was just wondering if anyone knows if this is something that is fixed with the new Macbooks that are shipping now, or is this still an issue? Thanks for your help!

Some rumors said that apple silently replacing the heat sink that when it become hot, it expanded and make contact and short the component and caused Macbook to shutdown. Or the heatsink is not that good to absorb the heat and make the MacBook shut down.
A lot of theory up there in this forum, some might be true and some just plain speculation (which is actually not propriate and allowed in this forum).
But from what I see, later Macbook production user is less in this forum to report their MacBook RSD (I'm not saying there isn't any), and I believe apple really listen and try to prevent it happen again in later production or previous one by creating newer firmware updater and maybe replacing parts to prevent the rsd occur anymore.
So Good Luck and enjoy your MacBook, not to worry with a ton of problem you read for there is a lot more happy user that not bother to post their glorious moment with macbook.

  • Just Ordered a Macbook! YAY!

I just ordered a white macbook. I put in 100GB hard drive and left it at 512 MB, ill be upgrading it to 2 GB with 3rd party ram. Anyone have any suggestions of a good Microphone for it for Garageband?
    Thanks!

it depend where you want to plug it in.
if it is for your usb port, then the first reply point a good model.
I use Shure SM 58 for vocal, and shure SM 57 for instrument like acoustic guitar or infront of guitar amp. No reference for drum yet, since I use mBox and or garage band that limit only 2 simultanious track input through mBox or built in audio in.
PS: the mBox setting I use is on my eMac, since my mBox Pro Tools is not supported the MacBook intel yet. but I use the shure on both of eMac and MacBook garage band

  • Just ordered 2015 Macbook Pro

So I just ordered the new 13inch Macbook pro retina early 2015 model.
    I chose the following specs;
2.7ghz i5 Processor - Will this be suitable for my needs and what about longevity/futureproof? It was another £68 with education pricing to go to the 2.9Ghz.....
16gb RAM - Maxed out! - Or is this overkill... I heard this on a PC review site
128gb storage - Now when I ordered I was going to just stick to an external HDD just incase I ever needed the extra storage as my current laptop stands at 70gb on it... from reading some forums they suggest that the 128gb is slower than the 256gb model?
I play the Sims occasionally and will purchase sims 4, and I will be using the laptop for web browsing, Skype, spotify and university work - spreadsheets and word docs. - Oh and downloading HD movies/TV series.
Will this laptop be enough for my needs, I cant see long term that I would need to change the way I use the laptop in terms of the software that I will be using.
I bought the Macbook on a total impulse purchase and now I'm trying to make sure I made the right decision.
    Thanks in advance,
    Lauren

Will this laptop be enough for my needs
Personally, I would've purchased the MacBook Pro with the built-in optical SuperDrive. I love the ability to watch movies on airline flights. On the way out the door I just grab a few DVDs off the shelf.
Otherwise, you can buy an external optical drive. Sometimes I see these duct-taped to the bottom of MacBooks that don't have a built in optical drive.

  • I have a macbook air build in dec 2008 im running os 10.6.8 but i cant upgrade to yosemite?

I cant upgrade to yosemite im running os 10.6.8

Are you sure your MacBook Air was built in December 2008?
Early 2008 MacBook Airs (model identifier MacBookAir1,1) can't run any OS newer than Lion (10.7):
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook-air/specs/macbook-air-core-2-duo-1 .6-13-specs.html
Late 2008 MacBook Airs (model identifier MacBookAir2,1) are capable of running Yosemite:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook-air/specs/macbook-air-core-2-duo-1 .6-13-nvidia-late-2008-specs.html
From the Apple menu, select "About This Mac" and see what it tells you.  Your Mac may be too old to run Yosemite.

  • I have just installed Firefox 6 but have noticed that I can not use Roboform. Is there any upgrade or add on that can solve this problem. Thank you John Edmunds)

I would like to use Roboform with Firefox V6.
Do you have any future plans to enable this to work on this verson or do I have to load a previous verson to work
    Thank you
    John Edmunds

I think what we're looking for is JUST the adapter/extension for Firefox.
If you run the RoboForm v7.4.1 installer, it wants to put the logins, identities, and safenotes on the local computer. It will also install the binaries locally.
There used to be a Roboform Toolbar for Firefox 7.3.0 extension available for download. This extension hasn't been compatible with the last two Firefox releases.
    That's what we want back.
