I just purchased an airport express to boost

the signal of my fios to other parts of my house (to connect to the many iPads and iPhones we have as well).  While setting it up I continually get an unexpected error has occurred - any help?

AirPort Express cannot "extend" the signal from a FIOS router if you are tying to do this wirelessly.
Apple routers only talk to other Apple routers in this regard.
The AirPort Express can "extend" the signal if you establish a permanent Ethernet cable connection between the FIOS router and AirPort Express.

In addition to RyanJC's comments, the 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) can store up to five different http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108081 configuration profiles. You will need to use the AirPort Utility to create & save these profiles.
    To create a new profile:
Open AirPort Utility, select your AX from the list, and then, click "Manual Setup."
From the AirPort Utility menu, select "Base Station," and then "Manage Profiles."
Click "+" to create a new profile; give it a name, and then, click OK.
Set options, such as network name, passwords, Internet connection method, etc.
When done setting the options, click Update.
    To switch profiles:
Open the AirPort Utility, select your AX from the list, and then, click "Manual Setup."
From the AirPort Utility menu, select "Base Station," and then "Manage Profiles."
Click on the desired profile, and then, click OK to apply the new profile and restart the AX.
Just remember to switch to the desired configuration profile before removing power from the AX.

If the purchases are all from the same account then you can share the content by authorizing each device.
If you have separate accounts then you have to be authorized to use the content purchased from another account.

So I assume that the original modem stays installed with the coaxial cable and the Exrtreme is in addition to that.
    Yes, that is correct.
Did you have the instructions that came with your Airport Extreme?  Are you sure you have it setup properly?  Here is the setup guide:

Ensure you have everything setup properly.  Once you do this and if you are still having trouble, follow Star's instructions.

    Is the status light green?
Your Airport device may be in Bridge Mode.
    Airport Utility 6:
Open Airport Utility, select the Airport Express and click Edit. Navigate to the Network tab and change Router Mode to DHCP and NAT. Then click Update on the bottom right.
    Airport Utility 5:
Open Airport Utility and click Manual Setup. Navigate to the Internet icon and change Connection Sharing to Share a Public IP Address. Then click Update on the bottom right.

  • I am considering purchase of Airport Express to extend / improve my network at home. I have read that AE will not work with a non apple set up. Does this mean my BT Homehub will not work with AE?

I have poor router connection to my iphone in one part of my three storey home. I have a BT Homehub router. I am considering purchase of Airport Express to improve my network connection. Will AE function with the Homehub.  I have read that it may not! Any advice please?
    Geoff Snr

The AirPort Express will work with the Homehub if you establish a permanent Ethernet connection from one of the LAN <-> ports on the Homehub to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Express.
The AirPort Express will not work if you are planning to connect the Express to the Homehub wirelessly to extend the network.

  • I just purchased an Airport Time Capsule.

I just purchased an Airport TIme Capsule
I am reading how to add my printer to it and it says to Choose "Add WPS Printer" from the base station menu but there is not such an option?  Has anyone else figured out how to hook up the printer?

What version OS are you running? What version of airport utility?
There is a WPS option in the top menu area.. not in the utility interactive area.. even the old version utility had this option.. but it was named differently.
It will be greyed out unless you actually select the TC in the utility.

  • Purchasing an Airport Express card...Is this the right move?

    Hey Folks,
I've recently been given an older iMac (it's the all in one purple one from around 99-2000) i talked to two different apple employees in two different stores (chicago and milwaukee) the concensus sounds like i need to purchase the "airport express card" and open up the hatch and install it manually in order to get the wirless internet that is already hooked up in my apartment builing. Is this the right purchase? i'm not clear on if this mac is airport ready, and am worried that 120 bucks later i will find out the hard way, any suggestions/advice?
    thanks everyone!

Jason my model is most certainly the Mac Rev C, i copied and pasted the information available below, turns out it is the Grape Imac, what does this mean for my wireless connectivity, and does this change my purchasing options, thank you so much for you help!

  • I just bought an Airport Express but it is only found by my Mac if right beside it. Am I missing something?

I just bought an Airport Express to stream music. I connected it to my wireless network. When I have it plugged in right beside the router and my Mac, it works. When I take it downstairs, it isn't found by iTunes Airplay or whatever it's called.
    Am I missing something?

If you power down the AirPort Express for now and then temporarily move your laptop to the location where you plan to install the AirPort Express downstairs, what type of signal reception do you get there?  In other words, can you get a good, fast Internet signal on the laptop at that location?
Here, we assume that the AirPort Express will not be installed behind a cabinet or other furniture that would absorb a good deal of the WiFi signal.

  • I just bought an airport express and I am in the process of configuring but my mac does not detect any airport devise. internet is working wirelessly and the airport is plugged next to the mac. any clue how can I fix this?

I just bought an airport express but when trying to configure it my mac is not capable of detecting the devise. The airport is plugged right next to the modem and the wireless internet is running perfectly. does any one experience this before?

You don't mention what function you want the AirPort Express to accomplish.
If you are trying to configure it to "join" your existing wireless network, you need to know the exact type of security that your wireless network is using fo you can use that same information to provide the correct settings to the AirPort Express.
You may be getting a message that the settings have been stored successfully, but unfortunately the settings that you have provided to the Express are likely the wrong settings.
The only way that you really know if the settings that you entered were correct is if you get a green light 20-30 seconds after you click Update.  If you don't get a green light on the Express, the settings that you provided were not the correct settings.
When you click Update, the Express will "disappear". This is normal. Up until the time that you click update, AirPort Utility is communicating to the Express on a wireless network with a name like Apple Network xxxxxxx. As soon as you click Update, the Express switches (or tries to switch) to another network, so of course it will disappear from the AirPort Utility window.
As soon as you click Update, close AirPort Utility. There is no reason to keep watching a window when the Express will never appear.

  • I just bought an AirPort express. Currently I have a qwest wired router plugged into the back of my computer via an ethernet cable. Can I just unplug the ethernet cable and plug it into the AirPort express, then use the setup utility?

I just bought an AirPort express. Currently I have a qwest wired router plugged into the back of my computer via an ethernet cable. Can I just unplug the ethernet cable and plug it into the AirPort express, then use the setup utility? Most of the discussions involve an existing wireless network. I don't have one.

Correct. That's the way to set up the AirPort Express. After connecting your AirPort Express to the router, open AirPort Utility (in /Applications/Utilities) and follow the steps

  • Using Airport Express to boost range of wireless network

I have a Virgin wireless broadband connection (using a netgear router), but the range is poor and so want to set up my airport express to boost the range of the network. This option is available in Airport Utility, but when I try to set it up, once I've inputted my WPA password a dialog box on top of the main screen pops up asking me to select from the list of Apple wireless devices. Annoyingly, the Express device doesn't show up in the dialog box, although I can see it showing up in the main Utility screen behind it. I can set it up to play iTunes etc. no problem - any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Unfortunately, most non-AirPort routers are not compatible with Apple's implementation of Wireless Distribution System (WDS)...so it very unlikely that your Netgear router can be extended wirelessly with the AirPort Express Base Station (AX).
The only Netgear, that I'm aware, that is supposed to be compatible, is the Netgear WGR614 with v6 firmware.
