I just put my serial number in to have someone call me about an issue, and it says my serial number is not valid. I copied it from the apple in the top corner. Any thoughts?

When you say you copied it from the desktop do you mean Apple Menu > About this Mac > More Info?
If your Mac is 5 years old or older it is considered Vintage or Obsolete and Apple no longer offers support. Instead of telling you it will often just say the serial number is invalid.
What model/year is your Mac? You can also try entering your serial number on this website: http://appleserialnumberinfo.com/Desktop/index.php see what it comes up with.

Hi, I just updated my mac from version10.6 to 10.9.3 os mavericks. i went to open iPhoto and it says "Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade." does this mean I have lost all photos i had in there? I just got an HP Stream 8 tablet with Windows on it. I have a Mac desktop running 10.6.8. I set up Home Sharing by making sure both had the same version of iTunes and I authorized the new tablet (desktop already was). (I haven't exceeded the number of authorized computers.) I would like to take some of the playlists I have on my desktop Mac and copy them into iTunes on the tablet. I hooked up the tablet to my desktop with a USB cable but wasn't able to get it to copy. I do not have WIFI....is there a way to do this by just having the tablet hooked up via the USB cable? If so, can someone please talk me through the steps necessary to do that? Thanks!
Did you erase the machine and set it up with your accounts or is the previous user still on it?

in Office 2011 the function "share it by e-mail" seems to be disabled. that happened recently, just after the apple update regarding Java. Any idea on how enable this function again?
I was able to get to a support person who helped me fix this without charge. I guess it was my bad for not trying the right way to access support.
Anyway, they answer is this.
I had to create a new account on my computer. When I logged into the new account it immediately wanted an AppleID. I used my daughter's e-mail address for the AppleID. This setup the internet accounts correctly with her iCloud.com e-mail address. I was then able to access e-mail in both the browser and Mail. Not that complicated but nothing that I would have easily thought up on my own.

I installed the system update to 10.7.3. After re-booting, my mail file was missing from the dock. Looked in applications and the mail application is missing. Any thoughts?
Thanks Paul; but, taking your suggestion didn't solve the problem. As mail is part of the OS, the updates don't have the capacity to reinstall applications; so, I had to reinstall the OS. I now have my mail back (although it didn't appear on the dock--I had to go to applications and activate it and then put it back in the dock. Thanks again for trying.

It is now locked to the original carrier. Sounds like that was Orange. Only the carrier the phone is locked to can authorize the unlock of the phone. You may be able to use it again on Orange, or if they provide unlock services you may be able to get it unlocked, however I have read of many phones that have been hacked to unlock not accepting the factory unlock. Following error message 'The item “iPhoto Library” can’t be moved because “10.0.1.3” can’t be modified' pops up, when I'm trying to copy my iPhoto library to my Synology NAS. Any thoughts what I need to do in order to succeed?

Before you try to copy your iPhoto library anywhere, make sure it does not have any inconsistencies, that could prevent copying. Run a rebuild, using the First Aid tools. See this post by Old Toad on how to do it: Re: iPhoto version 8.1.2

That error message is very typical for copying between incompatible file systems. I get this error message usually when I try to move iPhoto libraries or Aperture libraries to drives with MS Dos (FAT) or unix formatting, or when some of the image files inside the library contain ethnic characters (Umlaute), have very long file names, or the filenames contain other special characters.
Do you have any other large data sets that you could try to move to your NAS instead of your iPhoto library? Movies, Music? Then move these first to have enough working space, when you try to move the iPhoto library. If you are running out of space, it will be difficult for the OS to move large amounts of data at once. That will need working space. -

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

Someone else set up my iTunes account for me and I can't remember the Apple ID, the Password, or the name he put under it all. How do I get back into my iTunes account???? Or at least a number to call to get back???
Go to Settings>Store>Apple ID, tap the ID shown, sign out, sign back in using the alternate ID.
