What does this mean? What action should I take?

Using 'should be -rw-r--r-- , they are lrw-r--r--' as an example, you will see the that the permissions are not changed, but the | indicates a different location. This is because an update to Leopard onwards changed the location of a number of system components.

Just before I did this repair permissions on my 7-month-old iMac, my CD drive started refusing to burn CDs. iTunes saw that there was a CD inserted and told me to go to File>burn playlist to CD. But the CD never appears on my desktop, and under File there is no option to burn, grayed-out or otherwise. I tried multiple CDs, different brands, restarts, safe mode, hardware check, etc. And it had been burning CDs fine before that. I can still download a CD and play music thru iTunes. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with tech support, who had me jump thru all kinds of hoops, but it finally stumped him. I saw in disk utility some things I've never seen before: the above Warning, and in all of the repairs there were +r, - r, --r, ++r+, +rw+, --rw, and so on - lots of them. I and tech support connected r and rw with the CD drive, but no idea what's happening. He said to take it in to the shop - it's under warranty - but I thought I'd ask if anyone has an idea what's going on. Thanks all.
Repairing permissions in Disk Utility, although often recommended for the wrong reasons, or for no reason at all, is actually a waste of time, except in the very rare case where you have a permission error. All it does is to spew confusing error messages that mean nothing, but cause the same question to be asked over and over again on this site.

The opperating system I am using is 10.7.4, and updating to the latest version currently. Computer is running fine, except that when I did some utility repairs, I got the warning above, and not really sure what do, in regards to repairing it correctly, not just getting the message off of my computer.

Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall Mountain Lion or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet

No permissions repair trouble the whole time I had my new MacBook Pro. Now, I get this message (after a ton of necesary repairs:

System is acting quirky. I have to do a lot of "Forced Quit"s. Ran permissions repair and keep getting this as part of the report (Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired).
Disk utility seems to indicate drive is OK, but I have to do a lot of rebooting. Any ideas?

It's an innocuous error you can ignore. It was introduced with previous updates for ARD and/or Java before Lion. These are messages, not errors. They will cause no harm, and they will be repeated each time you repair permissions.

Also, can anyone tell me why my disk permissions are constantly being changed?It's a recurring message. It's innocuous and of no concern. It is the result of the ARD installation you did. Just ignore it.

I spent the month of November on the phone with Apple support.on a crashing and permissions going wild situation. I ended up getting a new HD for my iMac through and Apple Authorized service center. All has been well until today when I woke the iMac up from sleep to have it crash - a white screen of death. I rebooted and ran disk utilities from the HD partition and from the command R partition to have it say this -
Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent” has been modified and will not be repaired.
What does this mean and what are some possible remedies?

When I repair permissions in disk untilities, I get one result that cannot be repaired:
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
I recently had a new hard drive installed by Apple, after mine failed. The permissions seem to get out of whack quite often, and I get the message above.

Repaired permissions once, got rid of the the previous iTunes errors. Cleared history and repaired again, still get:

Any ideas?I have just started seeing this message and, almost simultaneously, have started to have problems with various different apps crashing for no real reason. Just a coincidence?
