I think the McAfee suite will do the trick when I pay them a one-time fee of $69 or $179 for a year for unlimited support.
Your call of course but IMO a waste of money. Please read this first:
There are many forms of ‘Malware’ that can affect a computer system, of which ‘a virus’ is but one type, ‘trojans’ another. Using the strict definition of a computer virus, no viruses that can attack OS X have so far been detected 'in the wild', i.e. in anything other than laboratory conditions. The same is not true of other forms of malware, such as Trojans. Whilst it is a fairly safe bet that your Mac has NOT been infected by a virus, it may have another security-related problem, but more likely a technical problem unrelated to any malware threat.
You may find this User Tip on Viruses, Trojan Detection and Removal, as well as general Internet Security and Privacy, useful:

The User Tip (which you are welcome to print out and retain for future reference) seeks to offer guidance on the main security threats and how to avoid them.

  • Video on skype not workin only in facetime and photo booth appears to be a common problem amongst user with a recently bought macbook air

Video on skype not working. Only functioning in facetime and photo booth. Seems to be a common problem amongst users having bought a new macbook air recently. When you go to Preference and click on audio/video item video works but when clicking on another menue and returning to audio/videio picture is gone. Understand has something to do with a recent update von Apple (10.8.5... missing file for 32 bit version).
Anybody there to give me an advice?
    Thanks.

Wait until a fix is available from Apple or Skype.
    Best.

  • I have recently bought macbook air, previously i was using macbook pro 13". I have a problem in accessing my external hard disk, on which i used to take backup through time machine on my earlier macbook pro. I am not able to access the hard disk.

My new macbook air is not even detecting the external disk, leave alone reading it. I have important documents as time machine backup on the external disk. Please help in resolving this issue.
    Thanks

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • I just got a macbook air but it has no osx on it.

a freind of mine gave me his older macbook air. when i turned it on it went directly to the start up utility. i ask to reinstall osx , add my apple id. then it says i did not buy mountain lion from app store.so i go into disk util;ity and all i have is disk 1.. mac osx base system. and a further hd... 120.03 gb samsung hs12uhe media that has a file called mac os x install ESD.   howe can i get a osx back onto my mac? can i use my windows 7 pc?

The first thing you should do after acquiring a used computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. How you do that depends on the model. Look it up on this page to see what version was originally installed.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard installation disc, which you can get from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. I suggest you install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the gray installation discs that came with it. If you don't have the discs, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, it should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
Once booted from the disc or in Internet Recovery, launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive, which is what you should do.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
You should then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. If you want to upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, buy it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them.
If the previous owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Apple customer service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.

    Hello mikebundy,
Let's double check to make sure everything is setup correctly, please see the following resource:
iCloud: Use Documents in the Cloud with OS X v10.8
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12514
To use Documents in the Cloud with your Mac apps, Documents & Data must be turned on in iCloud preferences.
Turn on Documents in the Cloud
    - Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click iCloud.
    - If you are not already signed in, sign in with the Apple ID you use with iCloud.
    - Turn on Documents & Data.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • I pressed command d when starting my macbook air but i pressed it for too long and now it is searching for something? heeelp please!!!!

pleeeasee help!!! i dont know what to do! at first, i was just cleaning my macbook keyboard and i pressed something that changed keyboard language, but i checked everything and it all said that everything was alright, later, i turned off macbook- in hope that when i turned it on, everything would be normal, but then,  i couldn't even sing in my account  because i had a password set on it, and every time i try typing the password it types something completely different, and then, i read a post, that in cases like this, we should press command+d while the computer is turning on, and let release the keys as soon as i see grey screen. BUT (i am so dumb) that i pressed it longer... and now, i don't know what it is doing, but i's telling me to choose network, but when i am trying to choose it, and  write the password, it doesn't do  anything! pleasee help me somehow!!!

It is easy to change the keyboard language by pressing apple/command plus space.
What other keyboards besides US did you have activated on your machine?

  • If I have iPhoto on my Macbook Air can I get it for free on iPhone?

I've had iPhoto installed on my Macbook Air since I had it in December and have just updated to the new version for free. Now can I get iPhoto on my phone for free or do i still have to pay the £2.99?

    No.
iPhoto on your Mac runs on OS X and you can have it on any Mac you own
iPhoto on your iPad runs on iOS and can run on any iPad or iPhone that you own.

  • I just recently purchased Macbook Pro Retina, and I am wondering how I can migrate my stuff from my old MCP to the new one?

Migration has made my life so much easier two years ago when I replaced my iMAC.
Now I am replacing Macbook Pro to the new one with Retina display.
I used to use Firwire to migrate all my data to the new machine.
However in the new MBP, there is no more firewire, but USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt.
    My old MBP has neither.
Is it still possible to migrate?  What should I do?

Given that I am a complete novice, some straight forward and simple advice would be helpful folks.

Get the Samsung Kies application to transfer it onto your computer, and then use iTunes to add it to your iPhone.

  • I have just recently bought a MacBook Air. I am looking for an email which I put into a folder on my Mac Pro. The smart folders have come across to the Air, but not the 'On my Mac' folders. Are they lost?

I have just recently bought a MacBook Air. I am looking for an email which I put into a folder on my Mac Pro. The smart folders have come across to the Air, but not the 'On my Mac' folders. Are they lost?

Are you sure that the "On My Mac" folders weren't empty? If all your mail accounts are IMAP, they may have been.

  • Just bought macbook air 11, but can't even register it

I bought macbook air 11 inch just today. On the welcome page, I chose my country. That click works bu 'continue' click doesn't work.So after wasting some time, I gave up. This is surely faulty, isn't it?

I didn't even know that you could press hard to click. I brought it back to the shop and they told me that the I need to click the bottom of the left side. There seem to be 3 different part at the bottom that you can't see. And also there is a part in the middle that you can click. I found that on the manual. i should have read the manual first. I didn't check it in the first place. Anyway, thanks for your help.

  • I bought pages for my macbook air, but it is not showing up on my desktop mac

I recently purchased Pages as it is on my ipad / iphone / ipod touch, so I thought why not have it on my Macbook air and desktop mac.  I bought it on the Macbook air, but it is not showing up on my purchases, and if I go to download it on the desktop, it states it is 19.99.  What am I doing wrong?

Apps installed on your iOS devices cannot run on Mac OS X. Two different operating systems.
If you want Pages on your Mac, you can purchase and download the Pages app for OS X here.
Be aware, the minimum requirement for Pages for OS X is v10.9 or later.
