I just set up a new email account on my iPhone and when i try to delete a message from my inbox, it prompts me that the message could not be moved to the mailbox trash.
any ideas???
If you used the same Apple ID as previously then you are using the same iCloud account.

No, and if I noticed anyone that I allowed to use my iPhone checking my email which is the same as opening any of my snail mail without my permission, that would be the last time they used my iPhone.

There are a few things that you could try. First try turning the account off and on : Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars , then tap the account on the right, slide Mail to 'off', exit settings and go back into the Mail app, and then go back to Settings and slide Mail back to 'on'
If that doesn't work then try closing the Mail app via the taskbar : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
And if the above don't work then try going into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Then select the account on the right-hand side of that screen, select Account, then Advanced, Deleted Mailbox, and under On The Server tap the 'Trash' folder so that it gets a tick against it - then come out of that series of popups by tapping on the relevant buttons at the top of them and then see if you can delete emails. -

Assuming that in this day and age you want security.
Setting up a new email account on mail, the password is entered for connecting to the in & outgoing servers before SSL is set. Before you can set SSL, mail connects to the servers so email password is transmitted unencrypted?
This seems a very obvious quirk/bug and something that I have always felt uncomfortable about.
Anyone else think this is not a good thing?Actually it look like all apple devices have the same mail setup procedure, so are your email passwords all being sent over the network in plain text before you get the chance to set the SSL option?

I have set up a new email account however it is unable to connect to the smtp server as it seems to be offline - how do i take the smtp server online?
the smtp server is the property of the mail provider and running in their server room
talk to them
and make sure the ports required by the mail providers smtp server are not blocked by your firewall or by your router or by your isp -
I have recently bought an Ipad but have forgotten my gmail password that I use on my Mac. I have used this email as my apple ID. If I now set up a new email account on my Ipad, do I have to change my apple ID as well as my apple password! HELP A VERY CONFUSED NOVICE!!!
On your Mac, try to access your gmail account. There should be a link you click for "Forgot My Password". Click it and try to retrieve your password.

How do i set up a new email account
I'm trying to set up a new email account. When I open preferences/new account, and put in my name, a new email address and password, my mail program just turns on the beachball and says it's not responding. Not sure what to do.
It's an iMac (Intel), and yes it is a G5. I'm not a techie, but pretty sure Intel makes it a G5.
Anyway, I guess you know what the add account box looks like in Mail. The top window automatically has my full name in it. In the email address window (the new account I want to set up), I put in the new email name I want - for example, [email protected] Then I put in the password for my .me account that I know works because I can sign in and access my stuff. When I hit the create button, I get the spinning beachball, and eventually, when I do the three-finger salute to force quit, I see that mail is not responding. -

Not sure if it has anything to do with the update.
Mail shows 1 unread message all the time, I've read it, still shows unread. I try to delete it and get the error "the message could not be moved to the mailbox trash", same error if I try to move it to the trash folder.
Message has been long deleted from my actual INBOX via Outlook weeks ago.
I've seen the suggestions to touch the trash settings under MAIL > Advanced, but there is no such option for Exchange accounts.I found an answer that has worked for me and others in another thread. It sounds pointless but just do it, all of a sudden I can delete mail now.
1. Go to Settings
2. Mail, Contacts, Calendars
3. Click your email adress.
4. Scroll down and click "Advanced"
5. Click "Deleted Mailbox"
6. Click "Spam" (at the bottom) then back to "Trash" (at the top).
That's it. It should now work again. -
my iphone won't allow me to trash old email messages -- I get the little window that says "Unable to Move Message -- The message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash." AT&T can't help me -- no one else has this problem, even though we're all on the same server from my company. I have restored to factory settings, but it didn't help. My email account settings are correct, the same as on my computers, and I can trash old messages on them.
What do I do now?I have had a similar problem recently and followed advice here. Specifically, I used the brute force approach. As suggested by this site, I strongly urge you to backup your mailbox before trying this fix - just to be on the safe side.

Update - I deleted/re-added my account. Same issue. Also, no my Exchange calendar won't sync. Issue appears to be on the Exchange server. I see the following errors in my iPhone log:

I've just added a new email account to my iPhone 5 & want to add a signature to my outgoing emails.
I set this up myself bofore upgrading to ios7 but for the life of me I cant find find the option in any of the settings.
Anyone...?It is a hotmail account (I know that hotmail has problems, so I had set it up via an 'other' account in the settings), it is not a POP.
On my old Iphone 4, the minute I recieved an email my phone would vibrate and the email would show up in my inbox, yet my Iphone 5 isn't even recognising an email, let alone sending me a push notification.

Cannot delete e-mails. I have three e-mail accounts. Two I have no problem with but I cannot delete e-mails from the third account. Whenever trying to delete, I get a amessage which states "Unable to move message. The message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash."
Back up all data. Rebuild the mailbox. Try again to delete the message.

I went into Settings > Mail > 'my account' > advanced > deleted mailbox > Trash (On My iPhone) ... it appears to delete a few items only ... I may try to individually delete 30 items and only 4 go ? help please ...I have the same problem and there is no advanced option. Was this removed in the upgrade to ios 5? I have been chasing a solution to this and the fact I have various duplicate emails appearing in my work account for days now! It seems like I may have to delete my account and re-install. This appears to be a common problem, where is Apple's fix for it?
