I just switched from a 2nd gen ipod touch to a 4th gen and it won't since my music. What do I do?

I just bought a new 4th gen ipod.  Before i had the 2nd gen and it synced fine.  Now this new one won't.  I plug it into my mac and it just charges.  It reads the ipod but just won't sync my playlist.  Can someone walk me though some steps to help the problem?  Thank you.

You need iTunes 10.7 or later on the computer. That requires OSX 10.6.8 or later.

  • I just upgraded to a 4th generation ipod touch. How do I get all of my stuff from my 2nd generation ipod touch to my new one?

I have already tried to do a back up on my second generation iPod, but for some reason it wouldn't sync to my new iPod because it wasn't compatible. I literally want to take everything from my old iPod  (the contacts, photos, notes, everything) and put it on my new one.

It sounds like both iPods need to be running the same version of iOS. If it's possible to upgrade both to iOS 6 then do that and try again.
If not, just back up your older iPod to iTunes, so that all your music, apps, etc. are in the iTunes library and then move them manually to your new iPod once connected. It will take longer but it's better than nothing.

  • Just found my lost from 2008 2nd generation ipod touch. cant update error occurs every time. fix?

while moving out i found my ipod that i lost back in 2008 so it obviously hasnt been updated since. but now it wont allow me to update. i even erased and reset the ipod to factory and still cant update. am i stuck with ios2.12 or is there something i can do to at least update it to the last available update for the 2nd generation ipod?

What does the error message say?
Are you sure you have a 2G iPod? The 2G iPod has an internal speaker and volume buttons on the upper left edge while the 1G does not. The 1G can only go to iOS 2.1.2 via iTunes and as high as 3.1.3 via

  • I have just been given a 2nd generation ipod touch.

i have heard that there is a safety problem with a model.  Could you tell me if mine is safe pse.  I do not have instructions etc.

    Carol,
The safety problem you may have heard about was referring to the 1st generation iPod nano, not the iPod Touch.  If you are unsure of how to use your iPod Touch, see it's User Guide.

I  tried to sync my iPod touch to a new MacPro laptop and it deleted all of my music and videos. I called tech support and they told me to email iTunes and they would give it back to me. How do I do this??

Correct. When you update via iTunes all synced media that is not in your iTunes library will be lost.
    As IO said before:
You can redownload most iTunes pruchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
I do not think it included audio books.

  • My iPod Touch is in Recovery Mode and iTunes Won't Detect It ?

    iPod Touch 4G
    iOS 5.1
    Purchased 2010
I Opened Up iTunes and Upgraded to iOS 5.1.1 from 5.1 as a "Download Only". The Next Morning I Go To My Computer Plug In My iPod and Update. My iPod Then Goes into Recovery Mode and When I Quit Recovery mode It goes straight to recovery mode again with and without the cable. iTunes does not detect it when i plus it in and neither does my computer, i have tried restarting apple mobile support and that does not work. The nearest apple store is 20 miles but i could go there.

See if you can kick it out of recovery mode with RecBoot.

  • My iPod touch 5 suddenly quit working and it won't charge.

My 5th Generation iPod touch suddenly quit working. I try to charge it and nothing happens.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I was resetting my ipod touch to clean it off to give to my sister. I thought it was plugged in, but turns out it was not, so the battery died while it was resetting itself. Now it is stuck on the apple screen. I have tried everything to reboot it and get iTunes to recognize the device, but nothing has worked. I had my computer cleaned, so iTunes is brand new and has never been hooked up to this iPod Touch. I need help please!!

  • 4.0 update to my 2nd Generation iPod Touch reset all my games and notes etc

Did anyone else have this problem? My Notes and all of my apps were reset as though I just downloaded them. I lost important info. There must be a back-up file of everything somewhere and I would like to have help looking for it. Thanks! ;0)

Go to iTunes/Settings/Devices and check if the backup listed there is from the time before the upgrade. If yes, restore from that one by right clicking on your device in the device list and choosing "restore from backup". • Is it possible to trade a 2nd Generation iPod Touch for a 4th Generation iPod Touch?

My younger sister has a 4th generation with a camera. Is it possible to trade a 2nd generation for a 4th generation at...say Walmart or Target?

I don't think so - the 4G is newer and the prices have changed. You can always try, but i don't think you will get a brand new iPod... If they gave away iPods like that, they wouldn't make business...
