I have just updated to Pages 5.1 and now the templares which I have saved do not displat the header and footer which they were saved with in the previous version. How can I have the header and footer included when I open a template?

That is becuase Pages 5.1 has numerous unnounced surprises for the unwary user. Among the surprises:
- it strips out images from headers and footers without warning
- it strips out bookmarks without wanring (yes, all those bookamrks you laboriously put into a document: poof! Gone.)
- it strips out alternating left/right margins, without warning.
There are many more suprises, as you'll see from glancing through these discussions. They fall into two main categories: things that are present in version 4.3 but that are missing in 5.1, things like
-mail merge
-meaningful Applescript/Services support
-non-contiguous text selection
-ability to set defaul zoom
-ability to see comments while editing
-ability to print comments
-ability to read RTF files
-ability to drag in hyperlinked ted from a browser
These about about 90 other features are gone.
Then there are the bugs. Hyperlinks do not reliably export to a PDF file any longer. There have been multiple problems with printing report. Some fonts place stray characters in the headers. Many reports of the program crashing, courrupting files, etc.
Fortunately for you, the previous version of Pages is still on your system. Export any documents you may have created or edited with Pages 5.1 (another great surprise: files created with version 5.1 cannot be read by any previous version of Pages: not just 4.3 but even 5.01!). Then trash 5.1 and use 4.3 until (unless?) it is stable and has a reasonably robust feature set.

My firefox wont load any page. Says it cant find the server of any of them. I can view the same pages in safari. I just updated to 3.6.7 and now having this problem. What is happening?

Computer recognizes iPad but the screen is black

My computer recognizes my iPad but the screen is black/blank. I can sync, restore, etc, the iPad appears that it is functioning except that the screen stays black/blank occasionally you can see the backlights come on when you press the home/sleep/wake button. I have preformed hard/soft resets and restored the ipad with no success. Any suggestions?

All iPads should still be under the one-year warranty. Presumably you have done something to your iPad which voided the warranty?
Apple will still repair your iPad for a charge. There are also other repair shops who can fix it.

Just downloaded an update on my macbook and now the screen is black

just downloaded an update on my macbook pro through the app store (March 20, 2015) and now I cant get into my computer. It will start and turn off but the screen is black. It flashes a white screen briefly and I can see a download bar but I cannot control anything because then the screen goes black. I have tried several suggestions to fix this that I have found online, but it doesn't work. My mac has the most current operating system.

HT5271 I just updated OSX 10.7.4 and now Safari won't load - what do I need to do to get Safari working again?

I just updated my operating system to OSX 10.7.4. Now Safari won't load.
I ran disc utilities and it still wont load. It tells me that Safari quit unexpectedly and gives me the option to submit a report of to re-open.
I have tried to find an updated Safari online but only find 5.1.7 updates for Windows.
What do I need to do to get Safari back?

I cannot use my iPad. The screen is black with only the circulating dowmnloading symbol showing and I cannot switch it off to re-boot. If I try to connect to iTunes it says it could not connect because o an unknown error 0xE80000065, but I can't turn it

I cannot use my iPad.
It presents a black blank screen with just the circulating symbol in the middle.
I cannot turn if off or on to re-boot it as the on-off swith does not respond, neither does the press button on the bottom edge of the pad.
I have tried to connect it to iTunes but my computer (running Windows Vista) shows an error message 0xE8ooooo65.
Previous to this complete shut-down I had successfully connected to iTunes and tried to download the new 4.3.3 (?) Update.
This showed it would take four hours ! So it was left to do just that.
However it then went back after thfour hours it said it was backing up my files, but then shutdown.
Can anyone help?

I just heard on NPR that Macs are now vulnerable to viruses. What should I do?

I switched to a Mac from a PC because I was told Macs don't get viruses. I just heard on NPR's Morning Edition that Macs are no longer immune, and that in fact Apple's attitude that "We don't get viruses," makes Mac users perhaps more vulnerable than PC users, because Apple is not as vigilant. What do we do now?

I just got off the phone with Applecare senior advisers, and here is what they say:
- Mac can get viruses, just like PCs, they just don't get them as often. The threat is still small, but it is real. Make sure you download all security updates religiously. The advisers also suggested that if I "felt like I needed more protection" there are third party virus protection programs for the Mac. They named McAffee and Symantec. At that point I started getting ugly flashbacks to my PC days of molasses-slow performance and virus scans gumming up the works. I told them I wasn't looking for something to make me feel better, I needed Apple's official recommendation to users. There doesn't seem to be one, but here is additional info I got:
- For a virus to install itself on your Mac, you will have to invite it in, i.e., a little window will pop up asking you to download or install something. Many legitimate sites ask you to do that sort of thing, so the advice from Apple is make sure you know and trust the site before clicking OK. If you are not sure, open another tab and research the site you were thinking of allowing in.
- One major reason Macs have not been vulnerable to viruses until now is that they did not present a large enough target for evildoers. The other reason is that the Mac OS is harder to get into than Windows. Smaller target + more work means smaller returns, so crooks have mostly left Macs alone. Now that Apple is the new 800 pound gorilla, it presents a juicier target, and the risk is increasing.
- As for disabling Java, I don't want to do that, I need it for streaming stock quotes. Besides, that only addresses the current Trojan, and there is no guarantee that the next virus will use the same platform.
I made a specific request that corporate address the information in the NPR segment. Apple should not ignore this. They need to elaborate and advise users on whether this was legitimate information or an ill-researched scare piece. The "virus-free" environment has been a big selling point for Apple computers, and if it no longer applies, we need to know.

If the Videos app is now 'frozen then try searching for the name of one of your videos on the iPad's spotlight search screen - swipe your first homescreen to the right, type in it's name, and if it finds it tap on it to see if it plays.
If that doesn't work then try closing the Videos app completely : from the home screen (i.e.not with the Videos app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Videos app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option if the two above don't work is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

TS1702 The apps which were due for update won't update when asked on our iPad and the apps remained blacked out. Does anyone have any suggestions how we can get the apps downloaded? We updated the device last week.

Our iPad 2 won't update e apps for some reason they just appear greyed out and won't complete. We have the latest software so can't understand why it won't update.

I just updated to 10.0.2 and now the "restore recent session" and "restore recent tab" buttons are grayed out. Also, there is no drop down butten for history on the back button. Please tell me how I can use these features again. Thank you.
