I just updated itunes and a LOT of my movies and music disappeared. These are movies and music I owned already and did not purchase from iTunes. How do I find them or do I need to add them all again? Also what happened to the sidebar?

I just updated my iTunes software and have a lot of problems...
1. The sidebar option is gone. I LIKED the sidebar and it was easier for me to navigate that way.
2. Also no lists? I hate the icon way to view it. It makes my eyes go wonky and I have a harder time actually looking for what I want.
3. A LOT of my music and movies have disappeared. These are music and movies I owned that I did NOT purchase from iTunes so I can not re-download them.
How do I find the missing files? Do I have to readd them into iTunes? Is there a way I am not seeing to put thew sidebar back or make the files be viewed in list form? Can I undo this update to put it back the way it was. I hate this update...

I've found that certain apps that I desire require a certain iOS level, so to speak. However, I have been hesitant to sync my itouch (3rd generation) to itunes to upgrade, mainly because it warns me that my media will be removed. Most of the music on my device has come from CDs which I have downloaded onto my itouch and not from itunes, so the music is not on my itunes itself. Since I do not fully comprehend what "syncing" my itouch to my computer will do, I would like to be certain that if I do sync my device all media will be removed. If this is the case, then I must persue ways to back that music up before I proceed with the syncing. If you could let me know as much information about this as possible, I would be truly grateful. Is anybody out there have iTunes Match problems? Such as: trades your music that you did not purchase from iTunes into edited versions of a song.

This is very annoying and utterly frustrating

At the moment, you have two options as far as I know.
1. Just live with the issue until Apple resolve it.
2. Turn off iTunes Match. You can just turn it off on specific devices and sync in the old way via USB.
I'm afraid that is it really.

1) Removing all music from phone and resynced to iTunes PC library.
2) Erased phone and restored from back up
3) Erased phone and started as a new iPhone
4) Reformated the music files in my library that weren't playing
5) Deleted songs from iPhone and computer and re-imported CDs
6) Tried to redownload my COMPLETE MUSIC LIBRARY from iCloud.
7) I have also turned it off and turned it back on several times
8) I tried syncing through my macbook (only moved partial songs to it to see if it would even work).
9) I have tried to get Siri to play them, did not work.
10) All music does play fine on my iPod Touch 3rd (iOS6 i think) gen and iTunes on Mac and PC
11) I added a CD to my roommates iTunes and it plays on their iPhone 5S but not mine.
After all of these things it is now WORSE!!! My iTunes purchased songs are now experiencing the same issue along with some (not all) of the original music files that were skipping and grayed out. My conclusion is i have no clue at this point! I have done everything i have found online in EVERY discussion, i have spent over 60 hours trying to get this to work and i am asking myself, i bought this product why am having to fix this when it worked just fine on my iPod touch (3rd Gen) and iPod Classic!!!! PLEASE APPLE FIX THIS ISSUE FOR US!!!!

I had this problem too after i upgdatd to OS X Mavericks... only the songs on my iphone 5s that i purchased from itunes would play.
i read something about it being a syncing issue. when you plug your phone into your computer with the usb cable, the person said to switch from automatic syncing of itunes to the "manual" option. mine was already set to manual so i wasn't sure anything would work. BUT, when i plugged my phone into my computer, it started to sync all of my music on my phone again (top of itunes bar where song playing/time is listed said "now syncing 123/534 songs to x's iphone"). once that was completed, i checked the music app on my iphone and everything was back to normal!
so, i would suggest setting your music syncing settings to manual if you haven't tried that yet!

This was EXACTLY what I needed about the purchases I made from my device. However, is there a way to re-download other ones you've made from a computer? Because I realized some of them were not just purchased from my device.

What my wife wants to do is to be able to open up an app. and have all of her movies listed and then be able to click on any of them and watch them on her ipad. HELP!

The easiest way to do this is to import the movies into iTunes and sync as many of them as will fit onto the iPad.
If you want easy access to all of the movies without having to sync, you can find a file sharing website and upload all the movies there. Then, get a download managing app such as iDownloads, bookmark the links to all of the movies, and you can download them at will and delete them when you're done with them.
If you're especially tech savvy and want a solution that is less laborious, you can setup an FTP server (such as the Filezilla server if you have Windows) on the computer where the HD movies are located, and give it access to the folder where the movies are. Then get an app that can download to FTP servers (GoodReader is one that I use) and download the movies at will via FTP. This solution requires less busywork, but is only feasible if you are especially technically savvy.

Since I updated my iphone none of my music that I did not purchase through itunes no longer works on my iphone. It is weird, the music is on the iphone but in gray and the iphone does not recognize it. The only songs that I could play are my songs that I downloaded on my phone that were purchased through itunes.
Another error: When I purchase a new song on itunes it doesn't put the song in my purchased playlist like it used too. In order for me to play that song I just purchased I have to go back to the itunes store and play it directly from the place I purchased it from which is super annoying.
Frankly I am really disappointed with the constant errors from upgrades that should be "Up grades" Not "down grades". Not sure why is going on but not seems to work the same anymore. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong with my iphone music?

Many thanks JEM24 for your help. Ive just spent the best part of six hundred pounds on a new Sony Rx100m2 compact camera, so I have no interest in the Ipods camera at all really. I doubt Ill be watching many videos on it as Im very lucky in that I have a good Android tablet. Its more as a stock music player that Ill be buying the Ipod for, if indeed I do end up buying one. I dont like the idea of paying the exorbitant amount added for more memory space that Apple along with most other companies charge. In fact I read an article on this very subject just yesterday in the tech section of Flipboard. It stated in the article that in the case of the Iphone the actual cost of each additional gigabyte of storage to Apple et al is something in the order of 60p.. This is certainly not reflected in the price us the customer has to pay at the till.. Its for this reason primarily that Apple in particular, because their products do not allow adding expandable memory of your own in the form of cheap to buy cards, that nobody in their right mind buys the 64gig etc Iphones..I am aware that we are discussing my potential purchase of an Ipod Touch here but you see my point. Music that I have purchased from iTunes syncs perfectly to the iPhone (3GS) but the music from my library that was not purchased from iTunes (burned from a CD) will show up in the iPhone music list but does not have any artwork nor will it play that music! Currently my solution has been to delete the defunct music from the iPhone and recopy it from iTunes. The music will then play but the artwork is missing. This is a rather irritating problem. Is anyone else having this issue? If so, any are any other solutions? Thanks!

I have just noticed that I am missing songs since I upgraded to iOS5. In some cases the art work is there and the length of the song is there but it will not play. I'm going to try and resync when I get home. I'll have to check to see if the songs still exist in my iTunes??? Nothing is ever easy is it??
