I just updated my 15" macbook pro from Snow Leopard to Mavericks and it's saying Photo booth needs to be updated to be used. Since it comes with the machine I'm assuming I need to buy Mountain Lion or something? Help??
Many apps I would like to download were out of reach because they needed the latest software download to work. I was extrememly excited to hear that the newest update was completely free and knew that it would help some of my problems. I was told that Mavericks could be installed straight from Snow Leopard, but I'm guessing a few updates have been missed on the way? How am I supposed to update my apps like Photo Booth when I am a student with low income and can't afford to buy things like Mountain Lion?
Is there anyway to update my apps without downsizing my software???
First, I see from the screenshot that you have applications on your desktop - how did they wind up there? Any app should be installed in the Applications folder since that is where Software Update expects them to be when it searches for updates. So you might want to move your apps there. Do that, restart, and run Software Update again. If that does not update your very old version of Photo Booth, then I have only one suggestion: use recovery (hold down Command + R keys while restarting or rebooting) to re-download and install Mavericks again over the top of what you have.

Once you are running off of the DVD you will be able to do a clean install of SL
To boot off the DVD with the system up running Lion insert the DVD. Open Sytem Preferences->Startup Disk and select the DVD then restart the machine.

What Adobe software are you referring to? Are you using Acrobat? You should have no problems running Acrobat XI on Yosemite, and as along as you have compatible scanner drivers for your Epson, you should be fine there as well.

I am currently in the process of upgrading the operating system on my girlfriend's MacBook Pro (Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,1). I have purchased and installed Snow Leopard successfully, however I would like to upgrade to the latest operating system, which to date is Moutain Lion.

Probably not. Back up your computer first, and ensure that your applications are compatible wih Mac OS X 10.8; Microsoft Office 2004 and earlier aren't.

Have utilised the website's Help services with no answer. They report it's fully supported by Mac system. Have tried turning firewall off. Nothing. Assuming it's a privacy/security setting given no success in 3 browsers??? Help?
Try making a test user account in System Preferences > Users & Groups.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
Then log out of your usual user account and try the test user account, and see if the website will let you in.
I suspect that the problem is an internet plugin that is not compatible with Mavericks. The old internet plugin will not be in the test user account.
If the site lets you in with the test user account, then it's a process of trial and error to figure out which plugin is the culprit.
The internet plugins are found in a few places.
Most are in /Library/Internet Plugins
Some may be in ~/Library/Internet Plugins
~/Library is hidden by default. -

I had to set up an appointment with the local genius bar to install Mavericks as I use WiFi and am very close to mountains which tend to interfere with clean downloads. Can you no longer create PDFs from your work product?
Can you no longer find the PDFs when you try to attach them to an email?
Do you get an error message when you try to attach them?
Do you get an error message when you try to send the email?
Does the email with the attachment disappear without a trace?
Does your recipient not see the attachment?
Does your recipient get an error message trying to open the attachment?

MacBook Pro reset/Snow Leopard Install

I'm updating an old MacBook Pro to Snow Leopard... well trying.
I have the install disc from Apple (brand new), but when I try to install I get about two thirds of the way though and get an error message. The machine is definitely up to spec, but the laptop is old. I just feel that if I could wipe the hard-drive and start again it would be ok. Is this possible?
Everything is backed up, so I just need some instruction on how to get the MacBook back to some kind of 'default' setting.
Thanks!Booted from the DVD, select Utilities/Disk Utility - run repair disk and repair permissions until you get no errors. Select the partition tab, select the partition, hit Options/GUID, and reformat Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Then tried the OS installation again.

I have a macbook pro running snow leopard. Just recently I cannot view youtube videos and other online videos. I recently updated my flashplayer plugin and I believe that is the problem. Is the latest flashplayer plugin compatible with 10.6.8? If this is so, I need to find an older flash player plugin to reinstall. I do not want to upgrade from 10.6.8 at this time because I have 18 yrs. worth of financial records on Quicken that I have read will not work with Lion and I've read bad things about running music programs on Maverick.

You can migrate to iCloud whilst still using snow leopard, but you will not be able to sync your calendars and contacts on your Mac.
If you are asking whether you should get Lion before or after migrating to iCloud, it really doesn't matter, but I think I would prefer to get it before migrating to iCloud . -

Firefox opens in a tiny window and I want it to open full page..How?
Firefox opens at my home page as desired, but it is on a window in the upper right corner, about 4"wide and 3" tall. It readily drags out into a full-sized display, but I want it to open that way, as it did before I updated to yesterday's version of
