    You can only access the Store of that country your account is registered for. Did you buy the apps using the same account? If you have a billing address registered in Australia, you can't buy in the US Store.
    Can you update the apps in iTunes on your computer?
    Did you log into your iTunes account and check your info?

    You need to connect your iPod to iTunes on a computer and update from there.
    Before updating, I recommend that you create a backup first, using : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
    Please note that iPod 3d generation only goes up to iOS 5.1.1

    scroll down to the part that's about updating with iTunes.

    If  you  have iOS 4.2.1 or later on the iPod and there was version compatible with that version, then you should be able to get a compatible version by:
    App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club           
    App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
    You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.
    For iTunes installation probolem problem maybe:
    Issues installing iTunes or QuickTime for Windows
    solving MSVCR80
    iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates

    I have had my frist account for a very long time. I was the first in the family to an apple product. After awhile my family joined in on my account. It would just skip around and never play anything. So I ended up deleting it all and tyring to start over. I have all the music from my first account on it but now it wont let me put my music from my second account. It says " This Device is already associated with an apple ID" " If you download past purchases with you Apple ID, you cannot auto-download or download past purchases with a different Apple ID for 90 days." then it gives me the option to "cancle" or "transfer". I dont know what to do after that. I am scared to click transfer because I dont want to lose any of my music I had just loaded on. Help?

    It is not telling you to update your iphone, it is telling you that you need to update itunes on your computer.

    A device becomes "associated" with an Apple ID when you turn on automatic downloads, iTunes Match, or download past purchases with the ID.  Once this association is made, the device can't be associated with a different ID for 90 days.  Even though this is your ID, the phone has already been associated with a different ID.  You can't turn on automatic downloads with your ID on this phone for 90 days.  You'll have to download the purchased apps, music and other media to your iTunes library and sync it to the phone until this 90 day period has expired and you can associate it with your ID.

    Soo I wanted to get more out of my iPod so I formatted it. (YIKES!)
    Anyway, thee iPod was formatted without backup and then I realized, after adding 300 songs and 19 app, that my two favorite apps, iBooks and Temple Run, weren't installing! Why, because they woudln't donwload , either!
    Now, I merely FORMATTED it, I in no way DOWNGRADED my iPod itself. Yet, suddenly, it's telling me I need to upgrade my iOS in order to get this app. My ipod is 4.2.1, and I'm getting fed up with this kind of service from Apple.
    So, if you have a solution to this problem, can you please help me? I just want my iBooks and Temple Run back! ALSO:: I used to have 5 different Audible account's files on my iPod, now I can only have 2 There goes $75 worth of audiobooks from my iPod! Is there any way I can get those back as well? I REALLY want them!
    Again, any solution you have is great! I'm hoping, more than anything, for someone to help me totally roll back my iPod to three hours ago, before the formatting. However, I'll take whatever help you can offer me!

    Uhless this program will get the iPod out of recovery mode you will have to restore via iTunes.

    I tried it. I restored it 2 times, I also shut it off like 5 times. But it's still waiting and disapearing after 5 seconds.

    Make sure your date, time, and time zone are correct in Settings > General > Date & Time.

    Novice or not, you takes your chances when you don't do a backup before an update. I rarely backup before an "interim" update, always backup before a major one. No one is going to be able to give you a definitive answer because when a problem happens, it is a random thing.
    Since I have automatic iCloud backups going on regularly, I don't worry too much about a random failure. But, that is all it is - a random failure, and there is no way to predict it or to prevent it.
    So, I think you will get the same answer from Support or from an Apple Store. Sorry there is nothing more specific, but that's the way it is.....
