I just upgraded my operating system and can't get the imessage to work.  I get a message it check my network connection.  But I am able to connect with the internet

I just upgraded to the new operating system on my iphone 4.  I am trying to connect to imessage but I can't get it to work.  I get a message saying to check my network settings.  I have checked and I can connect to the internet.  Any idea what I need to do?

If you have updated to iOS 5 then when you want to use messages you need  register by going into settings then go to messages and  then turn it on and use your apple I tunes ID. You can only use it between other  updated devices.
