I just upgraded to Firefox 4.0 and I noticed a discrepency upgrading my plugins.

After upgrading to Firefox 4.0, the website http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/ shows a different upgrade status than the Tools -> Addons (ctrl-shift-A) -> Plugins then "Check for Updates" option. The mozilla website will list several updates (some out of date/"Update" link, some vulnerable/"Update NOW" link, some up-to-date, and some Unknown Plugin/"Research" link), while the Plugins tab will state "No Updates" when you try to check for updates.

Do you sometimes use RTM offline ?
--> Wouldn't it be related to Google Gears plugin incompatibility with FF4? (RTM may use Gears to be used offline)

I've got a feeling that's the way it is. I know that if I turn the volume down all the way, I can still hear the music very softly -- which is great for listening when I have a migraine!

  • I have Firefox 5.0 and I noticed that in the Help-About 5.0.1 has been available. i did the update.. but after couplu of days the changes haven't been done and my FF changed to 5.0

I have Firefox 5 and I noticed that in Help->About 5.0.1 has been available, So i did the update. Yet when I check in the About Firefox box it says I have FF 5 and it is up to date. What could be the issue?

The update for Firefox 5.0.1 was only offered for Mac OSX due to fixes for the new 10.7 Lion operating system and to fix problems in Firefox created by Apple's recent update for 10.5 & 10.6. Windows and Linux Firefox 5.0 installations can't be updated to 5.0.1 - there's no need to update them.
Yes, 5.0.1 is what is being offered as the latest version for download & fresh installation for all three platforms, because the full download version needs to be the same for all platforms due to the way that server works. Firefox 5.0.1 for Mac OSX is different than 5.0, but on Windows and Linux they are the same, except for the number.
Yep, sounds confusing - I had to read the blog explanation 3 times before it sunk in why Mozilla did what they did.

  • Just updated to Firefox 4.0 and can't download former 3.6 version as suggested by others...what can I do since I have Mac OSX 10.4.11 and can't download older Firefox version?

When I went to the website suggested in the forum to download the older 3.6 version of Firefox, there was nowhere I could click to download this older version. Firefox recommends and had a place to click on downloading 4.0. How can I get the best of both without having to upgrade my Mac OSX? Please send me a reply ASAP! Thanks!

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5. You can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

  • I just downloaded the Firefox 4 version and it doesn't seem any different. I can't find the place that tells me what version of Firefox I now have. The start page still has the download the Firefox 4 now on it. I have Vista OS. Thanks,

I watched the video on Firefox 4, then restarted computer to let the changes taking effect as the update stated. When the computer started again there was no changes and I can't find it in the downloads or file changes as to what edition of firefox I know have.

Do you have an orange Firefox button in the upper left, or do you have the customary menu bar (File, Edit, View, etc.)?
Either way, you can check your current Firefox version using Help > About Firefox.
To switch from having a menu bar to having the orange button, right-click in a blank area after Help and uncheck Menu Bar. Then, to display the menu bar temporarily, you can tap the Alt key or press the F10 key.
Regarding the start page, there must be something just a little bit custom about the address. Otherwise, you would have been changed to '''about:home''' which is the new start page.

  • I just updated to Firefox 4.0 and it will not show anything but the homepage, no bookmarks will work and I can't use th eaddress bar, why?

Last night I updated from the old Firefox to the latest Firefox, 4.0 I think, and now NOTHING works but the homepage. None of my bookmarks work, the address bar doesn't work, nothing. I keep getting the error message "Firefox cannot find the server to the website"

    Simply go to:
1.View 2.Select tool bars 3. Uncheck any of the toolbars below: a. Babylon toolbar b. Softonic Eng 7 Community tool bar!
4.Finish.... if nothing happened try to unchechked other tool bars.

  • I just updated to firefox 4.o and it doesn't work. Everytime I click search nothing happens. How can I go back to the previous Firefox?

There is a blank white bar beneath where I type in what I want to search for. When I click on it, it does nothing. I want to go back to my previous firefox. I think it was 3.6?

To revert to the previous secure version which is 3.6.17, please do the following:<br><br>
#Go to [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html Download Firefox v3.6.17] and download it to the desktop.<br><br>
#Then go to Add/Remove Programs, scroll down to "Mozilla Firefox" and remove it, choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc., (don't checkmark the box).<br><br>
#Then reboot and delete the folder called "Mozilla Firefox" at this location: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox<br><br>
#Finally run the installation file you downloaded to the desktop earlier.<br>
Your bookmarks, customizations etc., are maintained in a different location and will become available to you again once you complete the installation.<br><br>
After you complete the installation, go to the [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/ Plugins Check] page and update where necessary.

  • I just updated to Firefox 4.0 and how do I change the Add-ons window from opening in a tab (I prefer the old window style)?

After updating to Firefox 4.0, I am unable to get the Add-ons tab (ctrl-shift-A) to open in a separate window like it did in 3.6. Where may I find the option/plugin/addon to be able to do this?

  • I just downloaded the Firefox 4 beta and when trying to open the .exe I get a window that says "File is Corrupt".

Not many details I can add...downloaded the v4 Beta version from your website, tried double-clicking on the downloaded file and got a window that simply said "File is Corrupt". Attempting to re-download now in case the original download was incomplete for some reason. (I am using a slow, hotel internet connection)

It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox.<br />
Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.<br />
Do not forget to re-enable the scanning in your anti-virus software after you are finished with downloading and installing.<br />

  • Just updated to Firefox 31.0 and my Bookmarks Toolbar disappeared.

Using Windows 7, I have Classic Theme Restorer but uninstalled that and still had same problem. The Bookmarks Toolbar is where it should be in Customize mode and when I exit Customize I can see my Bookmarks Toolbar for a split second but then it's gone for good. Just started happening today July 24 2014 when I rebooted. Thanks.

Is the Bookmarks Toolbar items still positioned on the Bookmarks Toolbar?
Try to click the "Restore Defaults" button in the Customize palette to restore the default toolbar setup.

  • Just updated to firefox 5.0 and my google toolbar has disappeared, went to reinstall it and error message says google toolbar is incompatable with firefox 5.0. Any solutions? Thanks

Last night I opened firefox and it said there was an update (5.0) available, so I updated. When I opened the browser this morning the google toolbar was missing, so I went to the google site and tried to download the google toolbar for firefox. A message appeared in the next to a piece of green jigsaw saying the google toolbar is incompatable with firefox 5.0. Is there some way to make it compatable? Regards, Peter.

You would need to install the Addon Compatibility Reporter, but you need to start working on those workarounds because ...
'''The Google Toolbar is no longer supported by Google in Firefox 5 and up''', you may be able to get what you want from it for a limited time, the directions to install the Google Toolbar were posted before Google actually announced dropping support.
*Enable Google Toolbar in Firefox 5<br>http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2011/06/enable-google-toolbar-in-firefox-5.html
*the-edmeister posted a brief evaluation of the situation<br>https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/841736
In any case you can find several alternative solutions, and you can start working on them now, see

  • I have just changed to firefox from IE and am trying to start using it .When loading FF it asked me if I wanted to import my ie favourites -answer .yes but I cannot find them

    op system windows 7+sp1

You can usually find the imported IE Favorites in a folder ("From Internet Explorer") at the bottom of the Bookmarks Menu folder (Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks).
If you can't find them in the "From Internet Explorer" folder then try this:
    * Export the favorites in IE to an HTML file (bookmarks.html): File > Import and Export
    * Import the HTML file in Firefox: Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import HTML: From File

You can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
You can trash Firefox 4.0 then re-install Firefox 3.6, it will use your existing bookmarks, passwords etc
